  1. To keep him sharp I suppose since I don't think he has pitched much while the Sox were losing so much.
  2. I like him but his name is misspelled a lot Think of it Lee ury and then you'll get the E before the U.
  3. Eloy can't get out of his own way. Literally nothing decent to swing at. Hardy living on the edges . I know he loves to extend his arms but he should literally not swing at anything going close to the outer third or in on his hands. If the umps ring him up so be it. He's a deadly mistake hitter and he wont get many if he keeps swinging at garbage.
  4. Gonzalez got named to MLB pipeline prospect of the week .429/.520/.905, 6 G, 21 AB, 4 R, 9 H ,1 2B, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 4 BB, 2 SO so nice to see him hitting again
  5. They really aren't that important. You can't built a team for 24-26 now but you can build a team from the present through 2023. Sustained success is bullshit man. You are believing the smoke they are blowing up your ass. Win a damn World Series . That's the main goal . Have they put the resources into building sustained success ? Nope. Sustained success means you are relying on the farm to consistently produce talent. Do they have 75 high speed cameras throughout the system like the Astros ? Do they have an extra minor league team ? Do they consistently spend all their intl. bonus pool money ? Do they have a thorough analytics dept ? The Sox are still a huge question mark in terms of knowing what to do with young talent and a huge question mark on drafting and development. They have no idea how to approach free agents. Can you imagine the Sox blowing away a free agent pitcher the way the Astro's did Gerrit Cole after they traded for him ? Commit the funds and resources to develop young talent and I might believe you are serious about sustained success . Also if serious about contending why not have your best players prepared and on the field immediately in 2020 ? Why let the 2 of them miss a combined 40 games or so waiting for the correct date to be called up ? Does that sound like a team that wants to win? Isn't the point of spending big this off season to start the contention window next year ? If so why turn around and take your best players purposely out of the lineup ? The info about the Astro's is contained in a book titled The MVP Machine: How Baseball’s New Nonconformists Are Using Data to Build Better Players by The Ringer’s Ben Lindbergh and FiveThirtyEight’s Travis Sawchik. Here is a link to a review of it https://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2019/6/12/18661954/astros-lindbergh-sawchik-mvp-machine
  6. Greg is probably right. The average baseball fan watches because they enjoy the sport. Many do not have the time to delve into advanced stats nor the desire. Put a winning product on the field and let the idiots in charge build the team using advanced stats. What we do here arguing endlessly abut stats is just giving our opinions which in the end doesn't improve the product or entertain the average fan. It's the Chicago White Sox and Chicago wants a winner like the fans of any team .
  7. Did everyone forget how to do a winners thread ? Wins these days are too few and far between but at least the Sox made the Phillies look worse than we do. Grannie for Leury, 3 run HR for Eloy and solo shot for Timmy accounted for 8 of the 10 runs. Lopez didn't have great stuff today but still is much better than in the 1st half. Gotta call this a good rebuild game.
  8. Frankly I have no interest in ranking one above the other. My hope is they all do well and become assets which is why I will stick up for Rutherford and most prospects because it's a long and winding road to the majors filled with plot twists and booby traps.
  9. Yea Castillo and Colome were on the DR WBC team with him and Alonso brother in law and Jay personal friend. So if the Sox were truly preparing to add Machado for 2 years that is the way they went about it. Cruz was also a teammate on that WBC so the only reason they might've wanted Alonso since he was left handed and could play 1st base and was a part of Machado's inner circle. . As far as talent goes Cruz who was (surprise } more expensive but way more talented. So it turned out to be add 4 family, friends ,teammates,Dominicans while also underbidding on him while also throwing in a Frank Thomas diminished skills clause in the guise of games played clause. Still doing business the risk adverse way even with a top young talent at the top of his game who also stays on the field all year long. Its the Sox way to half-ass everything and people wonder why anyone has doubts about adding the right talent or offering the right contract or even presenting themselves in a way that doesn't look imcompetent.
  10. They didnt assess Alonso over Cruz . You know it was purely about Machado as was Jay and perhaps Nova Castillo . Was it Colome that played on the WBC team with Machado ?
  11. That's what we all hope for and if he can pull it off he will be a better hitter than Moncada but he will have to take a lot more walks to get there. Has to develop sound plate discipline and patience.
  12. IF he can learn to lay off the bad pitches. He's a really good mistake hitter but his approach to getting mistakes is not good yet.
  13. Almost could see it coming. Pitcher was throwing a lot of meatballs and Eloy has proven he can hit meatballs.
  14. That 0-2 slider wasn't ideal . I need to quit switching threads . I made 3 posts in Future Sox like it was the game thread.
  15. Yay Bummer. Hey Sox you had a 5 run inning how about trying another inning where you score a run or 2.
  16. When Rey isn't missing bats he has to have a quick hook once he starts giving up hits . Once his command gets better that might not have to be the case.
  17. This. Robert shouldn't lead off as a rookie and I prefer him where his power can do some damage and where his speed is used more for defense than for stealing bases to limit potentially harming himself .
  18. All the speculation about next years lineup is pretty pointless. We have no idea who the Sox acquire in the off season.
