What kids are you speaking of ?
-
I actually do. That's why I called it in the other thread. Jay isn't a CF , he's way too slow. Denard at least still has some wheels. Then Engel could be what he's supposed to be a back up. Then Jay can be shit canned.

The Intro for Bat Out of Hell is just perfect.

This whole saga deserves its own rock opera.

Will Yonder and Jay be gone by midseason?

Yes he was and if the Sox sign someone like Denard Span he'll be gone before opening day. -
White Sox All-Washed Up Team
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Peacock Wrestler's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Seaver pitched around 2.5 years with the Sox .Won his 300th game with us and his 1st 2 years were good even though he was 39 and 40. For his 300th he pitched a complete game in Yankees Stadium and the Sox won 4-1 in front of 54,000 fans including Commissioner Peter Ueberroth and Richard Nixon. He pitched out of jams in the 8th and 9th with the Yankee crowd chanting "Seaver Seaver Seaver".With the final out he lept into Carlton Fisk's arms. The 4-1 scored matched his uniform number 41. At 39 he pitched 236.3 innings and at 40 238.2. His record in those years was a combined 31-22 His WHIP's and FIP's were both solid. That was a great game. -
Fulmer ? But wasn't that drive line using them and not the White Sox ?
-
So as far as guaranteed money goes what does Harper get ? Would $300M/9 yr. guaranteed plus the $50M in incentives , opt out after 5 years. be an offer that might win ?
-
As a concession to you ,one of our most kind and our only consistent female poster as far as I know and one of the elder stateswoman of the board. I'd like a mod to change the title to ;Harper: It Ain't Over till It's Over.
-
Didn't we also hear something along the lines of the Sox not using of high speed video cameras with pitchers ?
-
But they are all older than Machado and Harper so the length of contract shouldn't be as long . The AAV's will probably be roughly the same ,around $30ish M. At those AAV's its possible to score 3-4 guys since payroll commitments for 2020 are about $12.5M if they buy out Castillo and Jones. If they trade Herrera it's down to $4M for Anderson in 2020.

Arenado, Anthony Rendon, Gerrit Cole,Marcell Ozuna ,Xander Bogaerts, Madison Bumgarner, Chris Sale.

My main point was it was a loaded question to make his point stronger and those saying Preller was a good judge on int'l talent look bad .The small amount of research I did was to just illustrate the point that not enough time has passed for any GM to have any proven talent from August 2014 to present. I think that's only 4 years of int'l signings from 2015 to 2018.
-
You're asking a loaded question. Now I am ignorant on Preller's international signings and quite frankly have done only a small amount of research on SD Padres int'l. signings But if we are talking about basically signing 16/17 year olds. They do take a while to reach the major leagues . And I assume it might be hard to pin down exactly who he recommended in his Ranger days since he wasn't a GM then. Since you only asked for huge stars or proven talent you already knew the answer might come up empty since development time takes a while and Preller's time as a GM with SD started in August of 2014. I didn't see any top 30 int'l prospects on the MLB Pipeline list for 2018 and 2017 that SD got. I believe those lists were for judging the talent before they got signed . I do see that in 2016 SD signed 7 of the top 30. I have no idea how those guys are doing so far. SO basically for the 4/5 years since August 2014 I don't see many LATAM talent that has reached the majors for any team. Juan Soto made it last year. Maybe I don't recognize other names.

Who is available in 2020? Looking ahead to the future
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to BigSexy23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I understand but also the prospect starting pitchers might be a far greater risk as we have seen the past year with the injuries to Kopech Dunning and Hansen's implosion from injury and wildness along with handling Cease with kid gloves because of his TJ surgery. Even if they don't get injured, development could take years or they might just never be as good as we hope, . A least the top of the line starting pitchers are proven commodities. Also if position player prospects are a better investment then wouldn't trading them for the risky starting pitchers also be backwards ? One way or another you are going to need starting pitching . If the payroll is there buy it. Buying position players to fill holes is good too. 3 positions players 1 SP , 2 of each , 3PP 2 SP. The money is there next year. But we are still operating under the assumption this FO is still capable of making those kinds of transactions and right now it seems pretty unlikely they'd pay fair market value for 1 let alone 3 , 4 or 5 of them. -
Hit the nail on the head. So much discussion was about what a twitter comment meant. They are usually intentionally vague to create chatter and clicks. It was extended here. Not once have I or will I PM anyone here asking to or wanting to discuss rumors. I got what I wanted in the end and that was where Machado ends up . Rumors and twitter and insiders here do nothing to change the outcome. However it does make the off season more lively, not exhausting not frustrating . You create your own exhaustion or frustration by buying into the hype.

Rebuild: Phase 3 has officially begun
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well you got it right .The FO just screwed it up . Injuries screwed it up. Moncada and Giolito screwed it up. However there is this season and next ,for all those bad things that happened, to rebound . Moncada, Lopez ,Eloy ,Cease, Kopech, Robert , Madrigal etc. still could be the Tsunami. Phase 3 is on delay until further notice. Maybe late 2019 or early 2020 the FO learns how to live in the present. -

CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to BigSexy23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not I, not when the payroll is still so low next year. No sense diluting the talent pool when talent is available for just money. Sox need the prospects to be good and screwing up by trading the wrong one(s) would be terrible. I realize signing free agents hasn't been management's strong suit but when the money is there they need to sign top end talent. I think no matter what the talent will be there for position players but waiting for the starting pitching to mature would be a bigger mistake. But we have to wait and see how guys progress again this year so it's a bit premature to determine who to go after anyway. Besides like I said you can add 4 guys making $25M a year so why trade prospects? -

CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to BigSexy23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think the biggest priority for the money next year will be a top flight starting pitcher. The rotation will still be so young that you need a veteran leader, a true ace. Even though Kopech and Cease are better prospects than Giolito and Lopez they both have issues for 2020. Kopech will be coming of his TJ surgery and in his first full year and therefore might start the year in the minors and certainly won't have the stamina necessary to pitch a full season. Cease still has to survive 2019 uninjured and also is still building up his innings, Dunning also coming off injury and has to survive 2019 uninjured . Hansen we cannot count on for much of anything right now. -
Hahn isn't exactly Mr, Popular right now . I will take less likable for better results.
-
He is also ranked #2 by MLB Pipeline ahead of Eloy Jimenez who is #3 in the Top 100.

Did we forget that the James Shield the Padres signed came off a very good year where he came in 18th in MVP voting in 2014 and was 11th in Cy Young voting in 2013 ? Or did we forget when James Shields started to suck in his 2nd year with the Padres they quickly got rid of him for He Who Shall NOT Be Named to the clueless White Sox even though he was just blasted by San Diego's management for sucking so badly and despite continuing to suck that the Sox kept him for 3 full years ? Did we forget that after the trade the thread here was almost universally against the trade despite not even knowing who HWSNBN was and who he was going to become ?
