That's what happens when most of your draft picks flail, you don't get any success or spend your money in International Free Agency while you also trade it away when you should be trading for it.., you keep employees without a track record of success employed. you have no presence in Japan or the Dominican Republic, you haven't spent what's necessary in player development be it high speed cameras or adding an extra minor league team. You haven't found one diamond in the rough since the rebuild started with the possible exception of McCann and that's not guaranteed despite cycling through a bunch of AAA fodder and you completely whiff not only on Machado but anyone else who could 've brought some depth to the organization but instead spend it on Yonder Alonso, John Jay and to a lesser extent Nova who frankly did about what the Sox expected from him. The amount of flotsam and jetsam on the 40 is astounding for a team that might be looking to compete next year. or 2021 and it will take a minor miracle the kind which Hahn has never pulled off in his entire career as GM to achieve.

If you rather have Madrigal at 2nd base than Rendon then I don't know what to tell you. I like Madrigal as well as the next guy and the payroll flexibility he provides but I m looking at sustained success being a long shot and just hoping for 1 year where the Sox can win a World Series so I will take as many superstars as we can get on my imaginary World Series team. I really don't see how anyone could think we will have sustained success, How long will we wait on Cease, Kopech, Dunning , Robert Madrigal Vaughn to actually become major contributors ? Even if most can become major contributors in their 2nd year like Giolito and Moncada and probably Eloy that's no longer 2020 but 2021, IF every one of them can improve as much as Gio and Moncada . Since we haven't even seen one full year from any of them yet it's very unlikely it will happen by 2021 also. For a guy who professes to dislike many things about the Front Office you are putting an awful lot of faith in them attaining the goals about sustained success and actually advocating their process and depending on them to achieve that goal all in this off season and the next one while praying for a miracle that every prospect i mentioned becomes good by 2021 .

Oh I know you agree with me or I with you on the Front Office but when talent is cheap I still think you must act on it regardless of how ready the Sox were to compete . Talent especially cheap talent provides depth and the Sox have very little of that which makes the coming off season so daunting. For example you might say Brantley wasn't cheap at $15M a year for 2 years but given how well he has performed this year it's possible he will provide excess value on his contract and he would have alleviated the Sox need to search for a RF this year . If Fiers had been signed then there goes the need for a starting pitcher. We still would need one but not 2 like many here think. That would've mad this off season much less harrowing. I can't remember if I liked LeMahieu or not . I will have to look it up but he was signed by the Yankees for 2 years $24M . He was recommended by Jim Hendry who drafted him for the Cubs and knew his profile very well and was then working for the Yankees and their data said he was undervalued offensively and elite defensively. Again just another good team making a better move than the Sox seem capable of making with another versatile, smart guy capable of playing 1st , 2nd, SS, 3rd base . This is also why staying with the same FO or talent evaluation personnel or inexperienced personnel is a bad idea . Hendry ends up with the Yankees and becomes a key figure in acquiring LeMahieu.

Well in fairness there is not much interest in winning anything besides a higher draft pick and I did start the thread very late when I am sure most were in bed but since I'm in California i am 2 hours earlier then Chicago.

Well that is my whole point. You know. as well as I do. that the good teams continue to make moves that have ended up helping them in the draft,and international signings ( the Twins rebounded quickly through the international draft with guys like Kepler Polanco and Rosario plus a good crop of FA's even though the year before they failed miserably at Free Agency.). The Dodgers found a hidden gem in Muncy and drafted Fulmer's team mate Walker Buehler with the 24th pick in the 1st round. Tampa Bay somehow manages to content with a very limited budget as does Oakland. With Hahn and Company not doing much internationally besides trading away their money or with Micker Adolfo having an outside chance at success and high draft picks like Burger Fulmer,and Burdi being non productive I see very little to indicate they are doing the rebuild the right way. So the main point is the Sox have not done enough to increase the odds of success because of lacking in other areas. They treat the international draft like its a way to make a few dollars instead of developing players. They have not invested in many high speed cameras like I have seen with the Dodgers , Astros or even the Brewers when I recently saw Plesac surrounded by cameras to help him whenever that picture I saw was taken. Basically all our eggs are now being put into one off season or perhaps this one and next years FA class and with their record finding talent in most areas it's very hard to imagine the rebuild having any kind of sustained success. My best hope is to win a World Series somehow .
