I was hoping the Sox would hang onto him for his defense which is still very good and at 29 years old thought it was possible for him to have a bounce back year. He did once put up a 5 WAR season tough that seems ages ago. Any way last word he went 3/5 today during his Rays debut with a HR and 3 RBI.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 04:05 PM) Article says he's added it over the past few years, coinciding with his rise in strikeouts: He stole it from Giolito.

That kid Yolmer Sanchez has been looking good. He's better than Carlos Sanchez any day.

Houston has had a team for 55 years without winning a World Series. They have a chance this year but are dicking around. Yea I hope they beg for Q at the deadline and Hahn strip mines their system or some other teams beat their best offer. The Sox whooped your ass in 2005 and they will whoop your ass in the Q sweepstakes one way or another. Have fun not winning the World Series but hey you will get to keep your precious prospects.

I think it's pretty cool that he is related to Carlos May and also Lee May. Carlos played for the Sox in the Chuck Tanner years and wasn't a bad ballplayer and might've done better if part of his thumb wasn't blown off by a mortar . If May can succeed along with Anderson and Moncada we could have a new era Go Go White Sox ,thrilling fans with speed, pitching and defense. Ok yea I like to look at best case scenario.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 05:44 AM) They really aren't competing with very rich organizations. If they want Robert, they can go get him. It's that simple. I've outlined how in multiple posts and even wrote an article for FutureSox about the prospects of doing so. Yes I even read the article when you wrote it and your efforts to do so are commendable. However, I did not commit it to memory. At this point the other thing we can reasonably assume is that the Sox will be in seriously involved since we have seen no activity regarding other prospects and your own thoughts re: Badler. I just am never really very confident that the Sox (based on some of SSk2 arguments) and my own realizations that the Sox do have a history of not making winning bids. Some have even accused the Sox of making token bids just to say they made a competitive offer. I just find it a terrible situation . Either he signs with the Sox or the Sox get nothing since they have not been connected to any other prospects that we know . They really need to keep the international pipeline functioning and getting nothing should be a completely out of the question option. Go big or go home is not a luxury the Sox can afford when they need all the prospects they can pump into the system. That aspect of the organization has been bone dry for too long for it to continue now.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 11:13 AM) I actually think it's lunacy to just expect the same old White Sox. We've gone in a completely direction and the way our front office operates will be different as a result. We literally just traded two cost-controlled stars in one offseason, something that our organization has never done before. Now that our short-term goal is talent accumulation and not winning, it's crazy to think they won't change their ways. And that may mean going over their international budget for the first time, which Hahn has clearly stated is something they are considering. Would you really expect him to say anything else ? He can't say no we are not considering it because it would cause a minor uproar. His only possible answer is what he said. Considering it could mean it's a very unlikely but still a remotely possible option.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 26, 2017 -> 09:05 PM) Platoon partner for Davidson. My point was that they aren't dumping Matt Davidson. Avisail f***ing Garcia is still running around. DFAing Davidson before he gets plate appearances with the big league club doesn't make any sense. Are Asche's numbers really good? I don't really pay close attention to spring training stats because they don't matter. I just assumed Asche would make it because Merkin and Hayes were talking about it being likely. They are talking about it being likely because of his very good spring numbers so while you may not take spring numbers seriously they obviously mean something for the last few spots on the 25 . Asche leads the team in HR ,walks and doubles. His slash line is .316 .469 .763 1.233 -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 05:54 PM) Robert is the #2 international prospect in baseball right now. It's not like we're talking about some random 16 year old Dominican here, this kid has a solid chance of being an impact player and in the the not too distant future. I guess I'd much rather go big on one elite talent then sign several of the B & C tier amateur free agents like we have been doing. IMO, our current strategy hasn't been very fruitful, although it's obviously still early with some of these kids. And we'd still be able to sign a bunch of guys for under $300k and trade our excess budget for statewide prospects. To me, it's an easy decision, but I can understand where you're coming from. The main problem lies in competing with some very rich organizations who can simply outbid the Sox taking the bidding to a place where the Sox feel uncomfortable. Now I am not hip to exactly which signing period will limit spending ,but if neither does, I can't see the Sox spending 30M+ on a prospect especially when you can always spend somewhere around $2 million on some of the better albeit very young prospects if you trust your scouts. The current top Red Sox prospect Rafael Devers cost $1.5M as a 16 yr old. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of other stories like that out there. Those under 300K guys are "you get what you pay for" and "scraping the bottom of the barrel" signees. I am all for going after Roberts but will be miffed if they don't get him and the Sox walk away with bupkis.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 26, 2017 -> 07:58 PM) Who has seen Moncada up close? Does he look overweight? I hope he doesn't room with Courtney Hawkins. He's fine. Now if you want to see a Red Sox prospect with a bad body just research the next in line for Red Sox stardom, minor leaguer, Rafael Devers.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 26, 2017 -> 08:21 PM) I don't take anything out of spring training good or bad. If they wanted to give Davidson a shot this year, nothing that happened during spring should affect those plans. Then on what are you basing thinking Asche makes the team ? Surely as a non roster invitee if he had sucked there wouldn't be a chance at him making the team. His spring numbers, both power wise and OBP, have been the most impressive of all the Sox . -

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Mar 25, 2017 -> 06:39 PM) Don't think it'll happen because of options but Danny Hayes has more of a chance at being something at DH than Matt Davidson imo. People sleep on Hayes a bit. .283/.381/.440 in A-ball. .248/.388/.360 in AA. Then the power came. .250/.358/.489 in AAA. That's also how I see it. Hayes has always drawn his fair share of walks . His lack of defensive versatility hurts him when comparing him to Delmonico who has garnered most of the attention and playing time this spring . Physically they are almost spitting images of each other. Both are big, white , bearded , sweet swinging lefties who throw right. Hayes fits in more with the Sox new OBP philosophy. Delmonico is 2 years younger than Hayes .Hayes also leads the team in RBI this spring . However both are more than likely sent back down. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 25, 2017 -> 10:30 PM) Again...his swing looks good. That HR was crushed today. I don't know how he can hit off speed stuff / outside pitches, but he's crushed some inside pitches. At least 2 perhaps 3 of his 4 HR's have been off lefties which I consider a good sign . He also has the most AB's of any Sox player on the spring, so he is definitely being given a long look.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 12:02 PM) Why does that matter though? Given how little we've spent in Latin America over the last 12 months, I'd wager we have more cash available for a move like this than any of the clubs we're up against. If ownership & the front office decide that enduring the penalties is worth it, then I think we immediately become the favorite to land Robert. And I put a lot of faith in Badler considering us one of the favorites. IMO, it just seems too much of a coincidence that we haven't been linked to any of the major targets in next year's class. There really appears to be smoke here. While I have discounted the Sox chances at getting Roberts somewhere in this thread, it is odd and potentially very bad if the Sox are indeed "in" 100% on Roberts. To put all your eggs into one basket is extremely risky. If they don't get him then what ? Then they get table scraps or nothing and that is totally unacceptable at any time but especially now when they have the money to spend on international prospects.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 07:35 AM) KATOH is a statistical modeling system. Most scouting tends to avoid stats or only take them into account as a smallish part of the picture, so KATOH will often show very differently than scouting type views. But one of the lists is Katoh+ which does take some of those things into consideration.
-
QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 06:29 PM) FWIW, the KATOH system on Fangraphs actually has him as the 93rd best prospect in baseball. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/katohs-2017...-100-prospects/ With all the talk about our prospects we really never hear about Charlie Tilson except that he has had bad luck with injuries . Yet surprisingly I see him 89th on the one list and 55th on the other. Question: Why would he be on these KATOH lists and not others ?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 05:47 AM) Yeah, I went into ST thinking he was a near-lock, but now I'm 50/50 on him making the roster. Purke hasn't given up a run so far. I know we have been there ,done that but I think Purke has the Clark Kent thing going on now wearing glasses on the mound. Don't recall hm wearing glasses with the Sox last year. -

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 06:55 PM) The only significant turnover on the Sox offense is Eaton. The Sox still have Abreu, Frazier, Melky, Soto and Avi that are familiar with Verlander. Also Anderson and Saladino. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 05:43 AM) He played for Yale, not Harvard. He scored on 3/11 vs. Harvard. Harvard made the NCAA tourney, so I don't think he would have been signed called up yet. My bad . I got mixed up. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 19, 2017 -> 08:08 PM) Didn't really think 1b was an org need. Seemed like we had a AA and AAA logjam. I don't think he has ever made it out of A ball and at 24 yrs old is pretty much the definition of filler/non prospect. Maybe this was some form of repayment/favor or Dulin has some connection with some one in the organization .

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Mar 19, 2017 -> 02:59 PM) The #WhiteSox have acquired minor league 1B Brandon Dulin from Kansas City in return for either a PTBNL or cash considerations. THE Brandon Dulin "Banjos" ?

Sox taking it slow with Rodon during ST
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Mar 4, 2017 -> 07:27 AM) 1. He's injured right now He can't even get through Spring Training, because of an arm issue, or a tummy ache, or God knows whatever is causing him to have to "go slow" at the tender age of 24. 2. He actually will be 28 when Boras has him sign elsewhere. 3. 6-12 WAR over 3 years is a wide spread. 2 WAR/year is "just a guy," or an average starting MLB player, or roughly what Rodon has been hereto fore. 4 WAR/year is very much a difference maker, a stud, or slightly less than early Chris Sale as a SP or slightly less than what Quintana is now. Clumping the Gavin Floyds & Carlos Rodons together with the Chis Sales and Jose Quintanas over rates our now-injured SP, IMO. YMMV. And, I have to re-state that I was very much a fan when he was drafted, & I very much want him (and ALL Sox players) to do well. I simply don't get why he's considered by fans to be a core player. Hopefully today taught you not to believe in your own misinformed narrative which I gave you ample chance to prove otherwise on your oft injured rants. -
White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 19, 2017 -> 02:12 PM) I am definitely with you guys. I've been saying all winter long that the cubs make a ton of sense. Jimenez is a few years away, Candelerio is blocked at 3B, Happ is blocked at 2B/LF/RF. The cubs could trade all three and would not miss them in the least bit. Jimenez/Happ/Candelariowould be a nice haul for Q and that haul should be in between the Sale/Eaton trades as far as value is concerned. Hopefully Rick and Theo see it the same way. Those are the guys I also like though losing those three would leave the Cubs pretty barren. But with as much young talent they already have on the field they could win several more World Series with Q while the Sox are still molding their players and roster. Then we can all get crazy for a Sox/Cubs World Series. Bing Bang Boom. Baseball nirvana exists in Chicago.
