Just think how many rungs there are on the ladder between the scouts and the guys who make the trade. That's a lot of people in between who could have said something . He wasnt ranked because he hadn't even played yet. If you go thorough the process of spending 800K on a guy maybe should wait to see what you have before you trade him. We didn't get out scouted we got out everything'd up and down the ladder of decison making with Shields and Tatis with the ultimate responsibliy falling on the ones who pulled the trigger. Just another bad decison along with the Dunn's , LaRoche,Keppinger, Samardzija all trying to patch major holes with questionable acquisitions hoping for the 2005 magic acquisitions to repeat themselves. When you rely on a wing and a prayer ( or as some refer to it as half assed) to acquire talent, more often than not you are going to fail

Hmm I think it is. Either they are driving the short bus or occupants in it ,either way he refers to the front office as those types who proved by the trade that they belong on the short bus. I just refered to them as the driver because they are the ones in charge of the rebuild. I mean it's a cruel term no doubt but I'm fairly certain I understand it's use there.

The losses I can deal with in a rebuild. It's just the amount of bad is totally overwhelming the good this year . The Sox will not sniff .500 after the trade deadline . As a matter of fact i recently had a dream the Sox traded Rodon and even though thats pretty unlikely it's been that kind of season where I can see it happening.

Yes the wins have shorter game threads than the losses but then again people are more apt to criticze than praise so we shouldn't be surprised. Plus every win just gets the Sox farther away from the chance of the no. 1 pick though a top 3 seems like a lock . Wins besically suck essentially but I personally like them because constantly seeing 8 and 6 game losing streaks between wins sucks worse.

Basically you and Balta say the same thing about those "driving the short bus". You focused more on the Tatis trade and the following comments make excuses for it . But the thread that followed the trade was overwhelmingly against it. At this point most are also giving Hahn a free pass because of the talent he has accumulated in trades and he has done well in that regard . But it's the finishing touches that worry me the most, the coming trades and free agents signings. His record there has not been good. It fact its been poor and I also have spit into the wind on the Hahn bandwagon as has Balta at times and Fathom . Of course there are as many ideas on here on how the rest of the rebuild should proceed as there are posters. I also worry that while the minors are stacked the ML roster is a total wreck . The Sox have not found one diamond in the rough while contenders like the Dodgers and Brewers have found guys guys like Taylor, Muncy and Aguilar. That should be a big concern because it still seems as if the talent evaluators are failing and the struggles of Moncada , Giolito and Fulmer also don't help in that regard. We are just not getting any instant success stories with waiver claims or the youth and thats what is so disconcerting when we see the prospects on other teams just come up and flouish . Being in a rebuild should only make the Sox chances better at producng those kinds of success stories but nothing, nada zip, zilch. All the All Stars in the minors has to be tempered with all the injuries there also. There just hasn't been a lot to be happy about this year and thats why we are seeing a lot more negative posts . Yes we all must be patient but concerns about the "bus drivers" are legitimate.

This kid Hicks is going to surpass Chapman as the hardest thrower in baseball soon if he hasn't already.

I'd be shocked if the Yankees wanted Abreu . 1st of all he isn't left handed and the Yankes almost always want a LH hitting 1st baseman. They could go after Moustaskas and play him at first. Or just stay with Bird.I'd also be shocked if they gave up Angujar in any trade except for a top notch starting pitcher.

Machado keeps saying he is a SS for now and the future. Pretty selfish when you were gold glove caliber at 3b yet only so so at SS. Team first Machado .

Without a great arm at 3rd base it really limits your ability to play back to cut off balls down the line where you see the guys with cannons go into foul territory or dive down the line then gun it to 1st for the out. The really good ones can do that.

It's also pretty odd ( or maybe it's not considering the Dodgers have more resource so probably a better scouting/development staff) that they end up finding guys like Muncy and last year Taylor while the Sox while in a rebuild don't have nearly the "luck" the Dodgers do finding ballplayers who just seem to come out of nowhere.

I remember because I quoted some stats on Avi from Merkin about since he got off the DL and was healthy and I'm pretty sure it was Greg who responded and said but he is not healthy and me thinking hmmm pretty odd to get factual info from Greg. Think it was in a game thread.

Well you do have to run/sprint quite a bit when playing the OF so yeah DHing would provide relief since less running/sprinting = better for hammy.

You mean there is an actual reason not to hustle 100% of the time ? Don't you know that hustle is the calling card of Mr. Renteria and nothing is as important especially the health of 2 guys who you might want to trade ? Does anyone in Sox management ever think or possibly speak to our manager about such things ?

Even when he was healthy it's not like he got many starts in CF only 12 while Engel probably had that many in March and early April coming off his magical spring. Anywho it's not like it a choice between Mays and Trout,

I just remember thinking seriously so many prefer Engel over Leury ? But Engel got the starts from Sox management and continues to get them over Leury so I am still mystified.

I think the majority preferred Engel over Leury and when that was discussed a lot of nice comments about Engel came out so wasn't just one person. Unfortunately i have no recollection if it was its own thread or what. I would imagine its somewhere in March.

First thing I looked for this morning was an Avi placed on the DL thread, Wasn't there but now it is. I sure hope its not the go on the 10 day DL that turns into 60 days again. KInda blows that when he is showing the most power he ever has in a very short period of time that he reinjures the hammy. We can't have nice things.
