Sox win again
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 07:55 AM) Last night was about as perfect of a night to win as you can get. What was strange was watching KC play just awful and stupid defense. Oh that play where Avi was running on the pitch . He was rounding second just about as Cain was catching the fly ball. Avi got back amazingly fast when most players just would ve assumed the double play but he still should've been out by a country mile. Avi got back so fast I thought he had cut across the infield which would be an automatic put for not retouching 2nd base. I was hoping to see a camera angle just on Avi but never did.

Sox win again
I'll take the win when Moncada , Lopez and Engel all do well. Engel with multi hit games in 3 of the last 4 .

Jose Abreu with 1st Sox cycle in 17 years
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 08:36 AM) I want to know how many cycles actually finish on the triple. Seems like cycle watch always begins when someone has a triple to start the game. Incredible to finish it off with one, especially for a slower big guy. Who had also just fouled a pitch off his ankle and was in obvious pain.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 9, 2017 -> 09:02 PM) Why would they bring him back? Makes absolutely no sense with all these solid prospects and some of the current guys needing at bats. Could somebody answer why you would accept Melky coming back when we have plenty of outfielders who could get MLB at bats in a season where we are tanking again? All you people who don't want to spend any money at all. Why the hell would you give Melky a contract that would keep him in Chicago 2-3 more years. I'd love to hear from anybody who thinks this is a good idea. Now if you say you want Melky so we can keep losing ... uh, we have plenty of hitters in the minors who could play the outifield next year to help us keep losing. I'm totally baffled and mad when I think about this Melky thing. New age Sox fans who worship the advanced stats just floor me. Sorry for my anger but Melky coming back makes NO sense to me at all. It makes no sense if you want to win; it makes no sense if you want to tank some more. You take things too literally. DA was paraphrasing not reporting exact quotes from Hahn. It's possible we bring Melky back in GM speak is translated to this: It's also possible the world ends tomorrow.or if he signs for really cheap .

Jose Abreu with 1st Sox cycle in 17 years
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 10, 2017 -> 07:37 PM) LOL. All I know is I now find out he hit TWO home runs today and has 31 and 90 RBIs. I am AMAZED at the lack of praise on here about Jose. You aren't gonna be thrilled if Eloy has a 31 homer season with 90 ribbies on Sept. 10 some season?? And I watched Fulmer's highlights today. Lot of scorn on this board for Fulmer who had nasty stuff. My eyes can tell me that. Man I'm glad I'm not a stat geek. My eyes tell me Jose is special and I wouldn't count Fulmer out yet. He had some pop today and breaking stuff too. The world would be nicer if fans were all like el Rockin. Drives me crazy the lack of respect for Jose this season on this board. There's tons of love for Jose from this board. I see it all the time and you'd have to be blind not to see it. ron883 has been scorned for his bad opinions on Jose. The board thinks he el loco. How soon we forget. Better work on some things to sharpen the old coocnut.

9/10 Sox vs Giants
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 10, 2017 -> 04:24 PM) Let's let that hypothetical happen then. Fulmer has been bad for over a year. He's been bad in AAA, he's been bad in the majors. He's been bad as a reliever and starter. I'm really glad he had a good start that featured lots of Ks. But no, I don't expect a lot out of him. Doesn't mean anyone is rooting for his failure to be right. And so that's the reality. Maybe today's start had some incredible change that sets him on a trajectory for success. Or it was just a random good start against a team we are vying for position on. I don't think any Sox players career will be decided by a single game, but I think the white Sox org trajectory very well might. I am always an optimist when it comes to Sox youngsters. Hell I loved Brent Morel when he had that 9 homer September. He's 23 and yes pretty much everything about him has been disappointing but he deserves another start and I am pretty sure the Sox agree and will give him another one . I'll just take it start by start and see how it goes without any predictions.

9/10 Sox vs Giants
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 10, 2017 -> 04:23 PM) Yeah, that's true. I'm really not mad here. No sense going any further over something so trivial. I want the Sox to lose EVERY GAME this month. That's just me. I will admit I haven't even looked at what Bumgarner has been doing recently and even if I knew he had been struggling or not pitching up to his extremely high standards I would still expect the Giants to win. They didn't. Oh well. Good man nice to see a friendly resolution here !

9/10 Sox vs Giants
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 10, 2017 -> 04:12 PM) No, him beating his chest like he's some kind of baseball savant is what's lame. Nobody is impressed because "on the second post I said they would light him up" hahaha look at me. One game out of a billion of them. WTF cares? I make predictions all the time. Some right, ALOT wrong. I can admit that. Really easy to do when you have nothing to lose either way. Oh so feisty. All I did was correct your erroneous statement that the Sox aren't supposed to beat Bum. They had a good shot at hitting him. Fulmer of course was the wild card. Even if the Sox hit Bum it's not like Fulmer couldn't have also been lit up.. I never predicted a Sox win, just that they would do well against Bum. I also see nothing wrong with beating my own chest. When people are wrong around here everyone lets them know it . When you are correct no one remembers . I make plenty of mistakes. I made that 2nd post half asleep and also predicted Bum could hit a HR against Fulmer forgetting it was a home game for the Sox.

9/10 Sox vs Giants
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 10, 2017 -> 03:43 PM) Next time put some money on it. I rarely gamble. But I am well ahead in money won over money lost due to a huge win on the Raiders/Tampa Bay Superbowl quite a few years ago. I only made those bets because a friend was going to Vegas SB weekend so I asked him to make some bets for me. I won the 3 bets I made and came out at around $4000. I had originally made around 8 bets on that game and my friend who is a much more experienced gambler convinced me to make less bets. Funny thing was I would have won every one of the original 8 bets. But his advice was sound and I was more than happy with the win.

9/10 Sox vs Giants
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 10, 2017 -> 11:53 AM) I feel bad but damn I do not want to win today. But on the other hand, Yolmer hit a double off bumgarner. I wonder if Carson threw 3 good starts in a row would posters still be upset about draft position. I am fairly convinced that most posters would rather be right about Fulmer being a reliever or bust than admit some good starts will go a long way towards changing their minds. I would 100% rather have Carson Fulmer be a decent 4th or 5 starter than have the 2nd over the 3rd pick or 3rd over the 4th.

9/10 Sox vs Giants
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 10, 2017 -> 02:30 PM) I'm not mad at the players per se. You're right. I don't want them to go out there and not try. It's just that this team is 30 games below for a reason. They're not supposed to wax Bumgarner. But that's baseball. I get it. Still sucks. Um yes the Sox are supposed to wax Bungarner. 1)He had come off an injury lately and hasn't been pitching well. 2) The Sox hit lefties well. Follow baseball and the Sox and you know they had a shot. That's why in the 2nd post of the game thread I said the Sox will light him up.

Another reason to like Fuilmer. He's wearing Dick Butkus' number.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 10, 2017 -> 01:39 PM) Outdueled is being kind. This was a straight up spanking! Hats off to Fulmer. I love eating my words. Imagine if Carson can be an effective starter.

QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 10, 2017 -> 09:14 AM) Rick Hahn sending Fulmler out there like Old Yeller. Gotta admire his commitment to the tank effort. Sox will light up Bum. Bum may head a HR against Fulmer.

My totally biased review of Giolito's performance tonight
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 10, 2017 -> 09:18 AM) I read an article that mentioned the umpire missed 11 pitches his last start. That can't happen. It is amazing there wasn't more damage, I'm pretty sure Gabe Morales was one of the 2 umps Ian Kinsler singled out about needing a new profession.

9/9 Sox vs Giants
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 9, 2017 -> 09:00 PM) Shields actually pitches a dominant game. Weird. I don't like him. Abreu is so good it's scary. He's a special White Sox hitter. Always glad to see Avi hit a dinger. Anderson excels today. Back near .250. Man our record sucks. Scary that we are four wins from 60. What a lousy ballclub. Great win today though. It just came out of nowhere.

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 9, 2017 -> 09:12 PM) An unsustainable, lucky .300 with limited sample size You're telling me about sample size when you listed his last 16 games. My limited sample size is bigger than yours . I'm in no way implying Devers is or will be better than Moncada just don't like the lucky schtik, You have more chances to get lucky when you at least put the ball in play .

My totally biased review of Giolito's performance tonight
QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 9, 2017 -> 08:15 PM) His adjustment needed to be either A. not throw so low in the zone or B. find another place the ump will call. All you can really ask from an ump is to be consistent. If he consistently not calling a pitch low in the zone a strike. Don't throw it there. I'm not saying it's right. i agree they were strikes but many umps have biases for or against certain pitches. I know where you're coming from but when you start elevating pitches from knee high to thigh high is when you start getting torched. Keep the ball down and at least when the hitter swings he can miss it or beat it into the ground. I know the title of the thread said I was biased and I only said that because I'm a Sox fan saying a Sox pitcher got hosed. I really think I was pretty fair. I saw a comment on whitesox.com discussing the strikes called and he came up with 12 pitches in the zone that weren't called strikes. He didn't mention how he came to that conclusion but it's a lot more than the 7 I listed. I had to draw the line somewhere and I explained how I drew that line . I wasn't going to list every pitch that pitch cast said nicked the strike zone. Gio only gave up 3 hits in his 5.1 innings and the big Sandoval HR most likely was a result of one of those blown calls, Instead of being down 0-2 in the count, Sandoval hits an elevated pitch on a 2-1 count. The loss doesn't really bother me . The Sox played like crap . It was a bad pitch that Sandoval hit out especially with 1st base open at the time. But does Sandoval even get that pitch if Gio is ahead 0-2 ?

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 08:38 PM) Not worried, but I think they need to seriously consider dropping switch hitting. Not worried but give up switch hitting ? Sounds like worried to me.

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 9, 2017 -> 08:31 AM) Devers has been horrible lately Edit- .197/.258 with a .487 OPS in his last 16 games. Regression to the mean. So now he's only hitting .300 . That's a pretty good mean.

My totally biased review of Giolito's performance tonight
QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 9, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) I agree with this as I was watching the game. Hopefully, it was a learning experience for Giolito. Certain umps. aren't going to call certain pitches. when he saw the ump wasn't calling low strikes, he needs to find something else that works. It's not right but many umps have a "he doesn't give this." As he learns umps, hopefully he can adjust. I not sure what else Gio could've done. The pitches I listed were all very good pitches. That's his job, to make good pitches .He didn't allow many hits and if he tries to adjust to the ump who knows what happens . Maybe he gets hit harder. I'd also like to point out the umps are not familiar with Gio and in time and certainly with reviews of the games by the umps ( hopefully they do these things) that Gio will get the kind of calls that veteran pitchers do.

Jose Abreu with 1st Sox cycle in 17 years
Cycles are more rare than no hitters so tonight's cycle by Jose Abreu had to be commemorated. It's the 1st Sox cycle since Jose Valentin hit his in 2000. Perhaps more Jose's equal more cycles. Meanwhile the Sox showed no compassion for former team mate Jeff Samardzija nor did they care about the large contingent of his family there to watch him. Samardzija managed to last 5.2 innings but he gave up 8 hits , 4 of which were HR's. He allowed 6 Earned runs. The Giants , especially their bullpen eerily resembled the Sox on their worst days. This was not one of those days for the Sox offense. They belted out 18 hits. They smashed 6 HR's, 3 triples and 1 double. The 1st 5 hitters in the lineup all had HR's (Sanchez, Moncada, Abreu, Delmonico and Avi Garcia.) Tim Anderson also had a chance for the cycle only needing a double in his last AB but he K'd on 3 pitches. Final score 13-1 I would be remiss if I didn't mention the fine starting pitching of James Shields . So, again congrats to Jose Abreu on accomplishing a rare feat of hitting prowess.
