Deepest condolences to you and yours.

Jose Abreu
The 2 Abreu homers went 430 and 465 ft. The 465 footer was the longest HR at Target field in the Stat-Cast era.

Sox in pursuit of Puig
Puig hit a HR today and got 2 walks. His bat speed and short swing still look good. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/199538722/do...e-run-home-run/ Quote from Puig : "I'm very happy with the opportunity my teammates have given me, very thankful for their support and it motivates me to do better on the field," he said. "When you do your job, everything works out better. When you prepare, when you're in the dugout. Those are the things I didn't do before and now I'm doing them."

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Sep 4, 2016 -> 09:26 PM) So since August 9 abreu is hitting .361, 400 obp and .588 slg. August 8th was an off day which abreu went to see his son in Miami. Last 30 it's.369 , .408 , .608 witn a 1.066 OPS . I don't know how long he knew his son was coming but that pre dates your August 8th date by a few days. Article on whitesox.com http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/199...ffensive-surge/ "Jose Abreu credits his return to the high level of offensive production he showed during his first two seasons with the White Sox to tireless work and help from three people in particular: hitting coach Todd Steverson and assistant hitting coach Greg Sparks -- who helped him with his approach and mechanics, and his son, Dariel, who he turned to for inspiration and family comfort. But Abreu made it very clear on Saturday that his mid-season struggles had nothing to do with his five-year-old son's physical absence. "I didn't hit because I didn't hit," said Abreu through interpreter Billy Russo. "His presence was huge for me from my offensive standpoint. But I don't want the people to think because I wasn't with him I wasn't performing well. "It's not his fault. It wasn't something that I couldn't perform my best. It's baseball. Having him here was important for me. It was a little extra motivation for me." "I've been using more of my hands and synchronized the movement of my hands with my eyes, chasing the ball. I have to give thanks to the hitting coach and Sparks because they were the ones who recognized my failures and found ways to fix it, and I think the results have been there."

QUOTE (harkness @ Sep 4, 2016 -> 04:17 PM) The guy is on a crazy hot streak no doubt... I hope next year he doesn't take 4 months to get it going. Just part of the ebb and flow of a long season. I think it helped having his son around to see him play. Also not saying missing his son was the reason for not being as productive as usual earlier but it sure doesn't help. I'd like to see how he's hit since Morneau came aboard. I know it will be pretty good but also might not mean anything. But it does point out the obvious that a LH power bat should still be 1st on the Sox shopping ( as it's been and repeatedly failed upon) list this off season for the going for it again crowd. I know Abreu would probably hate playing DH but the Sox need to seriously consider it to have more options for that LH bat.Not sure why we haven't seen Morneau play the field at all. Running and sliding seems to be just as much a threat to injury as playing the field.

Sox in pursuit of Puig
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 09:06 PM) I'd be happy with Puig if the Sox can get him and put hin in LF If not, perhaps a Josh Reddick. I would sign Austin Jackson for Center and have Charlie Tilson platoon depending on RH/LH starters. Eaton stays in RF Frazier has to come back Tim Anderson, obviously at SS Saladino is my 2nd baseman and I trade Lawrie. Abreu stays at first. Narvaez is our starting catcher absent some trade. DH is a tough call not knowing if Melky will be traded and whether Morneau even wants to come back. The bullpen is a joke. The Sox have to DFA Albers and trade Robertson for anything they can get for him. I would try to trade Lawrie, Robertson and Melky, DFA Albers and, Avi Garcia. Not sure if Shields will have trade value but f doesn't DFA him as well. He is just too erratic from start to start. Soxtalk lesson #1: Posting your ideas on the direction the team should take or players to keep or trade will always get negative responses even though very few others express their opinions to be scoffed upon. Personally I think what you said is fine because you only named 7 guys to keep around and only mentioned Narvaez absent a trade of some sort. That's less than 1/3 of the 25 man roster. That leaves 18 other spots to be filled and naming a few guys you'd keep and a few more you'd trade isn't some earth shattering revelation that needs to be called out. I assume you want to keep Sale, Q and Rodon and would prefer keeping Morneau ? Need another legit BP arm and we'd be missing a closer. Just not sure what you expect to get back for Robertson , Melky and Lawrie or if your plan includes trading a big piece like Sale or Q. I realize trying to do a complete plan you'd be called out even more and it's easy for those who want to rebuild to say trade your most desirable asset(s) for a s*** ton of talent . Constructive criticism seems to be a learned science that not many are capable.

It's that time of year again...2016 edition
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 4, 2016 -> 10:55 AM) They're based on market size, not how well you operate within your market. With 2 teams in the same market with stadiums within 15 (?) miles of each other they should cut the market size in half.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 4, 2016 -> 04:20 PM) Don't forget... Debacle with original reaction to new stadium...upper deck, seat colors, etc. Collared jerseys/shorts/83 jerseys, which are actually kinda okay now. SportsVision Getting rid of Harry Caray Reputation of SouthSide for crime in 70's 80's early 90s White Flag trade Ligue Jr. attack on Royals' 1b coach Tom Gamboa 1994 strike largely caused by owner when Sox had one of the best teams in baseball Dunn/LaRoche/Shields historically bad seasons Veeck desperation promotions Ozzie Guillen feuding with KW and often drunk at the end, bolting for Marlins Sale knife cutting The Will to Win promotions right when the Sox start to fall apart Firing LaRussa, which also led to Leyland departing Harrelson as GM, Don Kessinger as player manager Dave Dombrowski also departing, would become HoF GM Carlos Quentin breaking his hamate bone, self inflicted Say It Aint So Joe Getting stuck behind the Yankees for so many years when there was only one pennant winner in the 50's and 60's Beckham, Viciedo, Brian Anderson, Josh Fields, Joe Borchard...and pretty much every position player drafted for the past 10-15 years not developing Tito Landrum, Jerry Dybs, etc. The crazy thing is that if you go from 1990-2006/08/10/12, we had the third best record in base in baseball behind the Braves, Yankees...depending on which years, Cards and Red Sox catch up eventually..but really only 2005 to show for it in the postseason Eh you repeated some things I already said like the unis, 1919, fan attack ( even though I said ump you're right it was the 1st base coach)and Veeck ownership though he had no money he could be attributed for the Sox remaining in Chicago if I am remembering correctly. The other stuff you mention like bad players and firing people and bad hirings I just chalk up to things that make bad teams bad but not embarrassments.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 4, 2016 -> 04:46 PM) The midget by the way was when Bill Veeck owned the St. Louis Browns...not the White Sox. His name was Eddie Gaedel. Mark Thanks, knew Veeck was the owner . No wonder that popped in my head last because it wasn't the Sox.

9/4 White Sox at Twins
Out of the 9 innings the Twins have batted they have scored in 7 of them. Odds in Twins favor for a walk off this inning.
-
9/4 White Sox at Twins
Narvaez last inning and Polanco this inning getting the rookie treatment from the HP ump on ball and strike calls.
-
9/4 White Sox at Twins
Between Suzuki, Dozier and Buxton the Sox have had their hands full. Of course terrible pitching will do that.

We should do some polls to pass the time and vent
My attitude is what new ? The Sox have been the sorriest franchise in baseball history. The only team to have ever been caught throwing a World Series . All the lifetime bans from that . Disco demolition, fans attacking umpires. Cheap terrible or no money owners odd uniforms and I'm sure I'm not remembering some stuff. Oh yea a midget batting . One World Series win in forever . But I'm stuck with them and that won't ever change.

Game Night Across America
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 06:52 PM) First two guys on base followed by two K's. Most White Sox thing ever. Santana making Sox hitters look like fools with men on base. Abreu K ,Frazier K, Avi BB and K , Avila K although he got aced . All the other stuff was crap .

What would it take?
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 09:56 AM) It's great being optimistic but the reality of the situation suggests not to get too excited. The Sox have decent against non AL Central opponents and they were at home. The next series against the Tigers the 1st 2 pitchers will be Shields and Ranaudo. The next 21 games are all against the Tigers, Royals, Indians and Twins 11 which are on the road. Even if the Sox play close games the bullpen is pretty bad. If the Sox could somehow go 5-2 on this upcoming road trip continue being optimistic but just remember how bad the Sox have fared against the Tigers, Royals and Indian so far. The Sox have been hitting pretty good in August but I wouldn't expect that to last. They have proven over the long haul that they are not a good hitting team. There's also a chance the Sox move some guys through waiver trades which would further deplete the line up or pitching staff. The odds are too long to expect anything. Just enjoy the rest of the season as best you can. See what I mean .

Sox in pursuit of Puig
QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 03:22 PM) Well see, the Dodgers are paying Puig to rot in the minors it's like the Shields deal all over again. It's a pure salary dump for the Dodgers with Puig like it was for Shields. There's no way we should give up more than someone like Avi for Puig. It's not a salary dump for the Dodgers. $17.5 million over 2 years is nothing for them and shouldn't even be much of a factor if the Sox want him.

Sox in pursuit of Puig
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 11:41 AM) How does the order work for who has first crack at picking him up off waivers? Is it by current record or last years record or? From what I understand, once a team picks up a player from waivers they have 10 days to work out a deal with that team, if I understand it correctly? Bottom to top teams in the same league this year then bottom to top teams in the opposite league. I wouldn't expect a Puig waiver deal. Dodgers might need him still this year. Maybe off season . Dodgers aren't desperate to be rid of him despite those reports of them trying to give him away.
