  1. I never said the starting staff wasn't going to have Hagen Smith or Schultz at the top of the rotation did I ? All I said is that there's a lot of arms and decent arms to choose from for the BP. I have no idea why you mention pitchers we no longer have. That's ancient history right now. I wasn't even talking about the starting staff , just the BP. It's like you were responding to a different post.
  2. You could read it this way. Teams that are still in on Roki Sasaki : Dodgers, Padres, Cubs, Yankees , Mets. Rangers maybe. Giants not. The White Sox , others, could be added to list. I didn't change a single word. Just added punctuation. Sox still in it ! 👍
  3. They already have more than 20 arms they could use in 2025 in the pen between guys from last year on the 40, guys they've added to the 40 after the season and guys not on the 40 but good enough to get a shot based on their years in the minors. See my post in the Crochet thread recently naming them all.
  4. He seemed to do pretty well while it was happening .Sometimes there is pain or other issues with late growth spurts but it's probable he grew in the off-season and had no trouble with it in season.
  5. It's the reason why the farm is ranked as high as it is. There's at least 5 guys not even in our top 30 who had good RP years in AA and AAA .Some older (26) like McGough and Schoenle . I know the recycle bin is pretty full too so we'll see what happens .
  6. This is undoubtedly true and he's investing his savings on propping up the Bulls and Blackhawks by investing in the real estate around the UC with whichever Wirtz is running the Hawks. I am however still keeping a sideways eye on the 78 project even though most of us seem to think it's dead. But Lip has a source who seems to think it'll get done. Not that I believe in fairy tales but maybe something rises from the ashes eventually.
  7. If say that pretty accurate given his age.
  8. Whoever wrote it sure seems to know what he's looking at and the changes he thinks could lead Gilbert to be more effective against RHH. Of course suggested changes are not easily mastered which is always a problem with projects. But if his changes are in line with Bannister's thinking I guess we'll find out.
  9. Was it me ? 🤣 Just a joke buddy. I have no idea what, if anything ,I posted about it. Normally I like to be optimistic about approaching seasons but I remember really liking Semien as a hitter .
  10. My comment was not so much or really at all about the Giants. It was more about what we've been seeing in MLB even at the TDL where 1 or 2 rentals for the rest of the year or a piece like Fedde for 2 playoffs is greeted with I'll give you my crap. There's one reason and one reason only that the Crochet deal was better than the Cease deal so I don't know why people keep comparing them .Cease had a down year and Crochet had a great breakout year. It's more and more about what have you done in your last year. Pitchers, catchers, 1st baseman is all what some of these teams seem willing to part with . Cleveland and TB seem to make it work with pitching. Right now that's the only way for the Sox just to get back to .500 .That's why pitching decisions are crucial and getting guys with multiple options left so you can bounce guys up and down all year long among the many who have a shot this year. The older guys already on the 40 with less options get the 1st crack at it. Whether we like it or not Getz is still seeing if he can acquire some assets dumpster diving pitching and turn them over. It's not much better than it was last year. You're down to Robert , Vaughn and Benintendi among the position players ,with Robert being the only one who could bring you a decent position player prospect if etc etc. I think Getz isn't in "just play the kids" mode quite yet with the pitching staff unless they are on the 40 already. He's trying to see if Bannister can get something from Shane Smith, Marinaccio, Bryse Wilson, Steve Wilson,Justin Anderson, Cam Booser, Tyler Gilbert, Fraser Ellard, Gus Varland . That's 8 guys right there .Maybe Shane Smith Starts ? There's Shuster, Penn Murfee, Jesse Scholtens,( if he's healthy , Berroa, Jordan Leasure. Then there's the AAA starters on the 40, Nastrini,Eder, Ky Bush,Iriarte and maybe AA guys Juan Carela and Wikelman Gonzalez. There's 24 pitchers on the 40 . The only ones I haven't mention are 4 of the likely starting pitchers. There's also not on the 40 ,26 yr. old Trey McGough who pitched well in Charlotte and Richmond who was the pitcher the Sox got from the O's for Eloy. Other arms not on the 40 among RP who had good seasons in AA or AAA , Addison Coffey, Garrett Schonele, Peyton Pallette and AHT ( Anthony Hoopii-Tuionetoa ) who was the pitcher from the Grossman trade. That's a hell of a lot of potential arms for 2025. That's also without Schultz or Hagen Smith .
  11. Prospect hugging is a thing. No doubt about it. A trade for you top of rotation starter or superstar OF should hurt although Tucker was just one year so not as much. Even Boston really didn't feel any pain because they kept their 3 best prospects . Of course fans want to keep them all. We cry over an 8 th round RP being traded because of the process even though we know the trade was likely insignificant .
  12. All things are things I've been talking about for years some of you who agreed and some who would argue that I jumped the gun on the problems in the DR. Music to my ears.
  13. I never said late 2026 I said the beginning of 2026 perhaps . That way you get the whole off-season to play with the roster and remaining options left and who you might want to trade . I'm hoping a lot of the arms are not so marginal.
  14. I'm only shocked by your hurry to believe a fluffy article. The Sox future will stud pitchers are still pretty wet behind the ears and yes I think every decision on what you seem marginal arms matters .Today's marginal arms are tomorrows cheap BP labor and picking the right ones can be the difference between a good BP that wins games in late innings and helps preserve the arms of Smith and Schultz and a lousy BP. They might even produce another Starting Pitcher among those arms.
  15. Correct, unknowable, which is why I err on the side of slower development for them both. Last year was Schultz 1st full season in the minors. He was still growing literally. I'm thrilled he got 88 innings pitched. Smith has barely pitched in the minors. He'll be entering his 1st full season. I don't see what's the rush to see him in the majors at all in 2025. There's no hurry on either of them.
  16. The actual futures of the team will still have a future with the team in 2026 regardless of if they get called up in 2025. Decisions have to be made in who else has a future with the team. Getz is likely hoping that he can trade 3 RP and maybe Davis Martin or Bryse Wilson or any other older starter given a chance in the 1st half at the deadline and maybe then give 40 man spots to the 3 young RP who did so well last year who might be deserving of spots too . You're not just building the starting pitching staff here, how you manage your roster and options is crucial.
  17. They have a lot arms to go through in the next year to decide who stays and who goes. Building a stronger team has a lot to do with making the right decisions on the other pitchers you keep. The longer you can delay some of those decisions the better. Giving 40 man spots to Smith and Schultz when they don't have to would be silly.
  18. I think they both need another full season of seasoning.Hagen Smith especially. Where's he going to start the season Winston Salem ? I don't see the point of them throwing relief. Have them stick to their starters plan like Crochet did. Schultz is still building up his innings. He's still being babied. No hurry on him either.
  19. Merk's selling tickets .You play up Montgomery having a shot to make the opening day roster when it's pretty unlikely to happen. I know Montgomery thinks it's possible. He'd need one helluva Spring Training.
  20. I think they both need full seasons in the minors. The 40 man is a clusterfuck already with so many pitchers who are candidates to make the team including guys not on the 40 who had outstanding seasons in the minors last year like Palette, Schonele , and Coffey. Some pitchers are going to be off the 40 from now till the TDL. If you add Schultz and Smith to the 40 you may have to get of an arm that you don't want to yet. I'd say at the start of the 2026 season about 6-7 arms currently on the 40 won't be on it then.
  21. Anything is possible but for Vargas and Sosa luckily there is DH to get them ABs along with trying to figure out if either of them can play 1st base competently if their bats wake up. As 2 of the only guys the Sox have with middle of the order potential in 2024 at least they are awfully close to running out of chances .
  22. This is a very good and comprehensive list of reasons why Rojas is needed and what I was trying to get across in my earlier arguments about the 26 man roster being fluid when talking about Rojas getting a starting position. There just isn't enough good defense to go around . There's also no sure things among the hitters and Vargas and Sosa are out of options which means they get the 1st chances to make a hitting impact. Margalus doesn't once mention Sosa at SS probably because it seems so implausible but he's as capable of playing there as badly as he defends anywhere else. Everything Margalus outlined is why I said we'll see and that playing time was a mystery and likely to change on occasion with the 1st real test of how things play out after whoever ends up in AAA likely getting called up once they gain the extra year depending on performance of course . Montgomery and Meidroth fits that bill. Another question of importance is just how long will be Sosa and Vargas be given to show their bats have finally found life beyond AAAA ?
  23. Maybe as an athlete you severely sprained your ankle .I know did. I had doctor's tell me you're better off breaking it. I think what they mean by that is you're better off breaking it if it's a clean break that doesn't involve ligament damage . Severe sprains always involve ligament damage which may make the ankle more susceptible to respraining .That was the kind of break Montgomery had ( clean no ligament damage). He'll be fine as long as he had a normal healing process and there's no reason to think he hasn't.
