  1. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 07:22 AM) Brian Anderson had some amazing defensive metrics IIRC. Ok again I'll use Fangraphs which Eminor likes to use to point out how bad Avi is . Brian Anderson only played semi regularly in 2006 and did have a defensive WAR rating of 7.5 which might be the highest you can find for any Sox OF ever in the Cell . The rest of his career he played so sparingly that it really didn't matter but he never came close to that 7.5 because he was a scrub.
  2. QUOTE (shysocks @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 07:24 AM) http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...0&sort=24,d Not that many, but I don't think it's because of the ballpark. That's a fairly bold claim and the Cell's outfield is about as standard as they come. I know somebody before (I think it was you) has pointed out that the shape of the fences makes it difficult to rob homers, and while that may be true, it wouldn't swing the numbers that much. And the difference between Avi and Eaton is that Eaton has put up a successful defensive season in the past. Avi has only ever massacred the outfield. Actually he hasn't . in 2 years with the Sox, which is our only way to measure it. he's been -1.6 and -8.8 . Now if you want to look up his DRS numbers be my guest.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 07:23 AM) Eaton had really good D stats in 14 IIRC. Adam Eaton was a -1.6 in 2014 according to the listed Fangraphs WAR.
  4. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 06:29 AM) Despite my campaigning, people still don't realize how bad Avisail Garcia was. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...0&sort=21,a Yes he was terrible, awful, a huge disappointment but I often wonder if the elite OF's this year Kevin Pillar, Kevin Keiermaier, Jason Heyward, Lorenzo Cain put up the same defensive WAR in US Cellular ? Seems like Sox OF's somehow get punished for playing there. Who was the last Sox OF who even had a decent defensive rating like say a 5 on the positive side ? The OF's I mentioned are all 15+ so I'm not asking for much with a 5. Everyone harps on Avi's D (well his offense too) but his defensive WAR was a -13.8 while Adam Eaton's was a -8.8 . Someone show me a good defensive OF who played for the Sox in the last ,say, 15 years.Oh hell make it 25 years , still might not find one with a decent defensive WAR.
  5. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 01:03 PM) More than a couple of his assists came on balls he misplayed so bad that people tried to turn them into doubles. That isn't exactly a good thing. And he definitely is on the worst list. Awful player. Well that's a unique spin on things . What did he have 16/17 assists? How many do you actually think were balls that were misplayed ? Way to turn a positive into a negative, truly a new high in taking a great thing a player can do and turning it into s***. There's a lot to criticize about Avi but his arm isn't one of them. Next thing you know you'll be telling me all that hustle when he runs to 1st is a waste of energy.
  6. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 08:25 PM) I disagree. No, they wouldn't take an everyday player like LaRoche over Sale since LaRoche is that bad and Sale is that great that even if he pitched one pitch every 5 days, he'd still be more valuable. But if you're comparing Arrenado and Sale, I think you'll see all of them take Nolan. I wonder what it would take to get Manny Machado. I was just thinking a Sale for Machado trade recently .
  7. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 04:51 PM) And Avi Garcia when he wasn't stealing home runs. ...or throwing guys out since I assume you mean he is on the worst list.
  8. Worst ,not getting anything for Samardzija at the trade deadline and the whole trade deadline in general.
  9. Carlos Rodon's progression has to be right up there with the best.
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 01:15 PM) Not watching. I thought I read he had three perfect innings. If not, my bad. Last time Avi was up Castellanos committed an error but still no hits through his 2 game combined 8 innings against the Sox.
  11. Montas most likely done after 4 innings . If so ,finishes with 7K 3 BB 1 ER . Not bad . I'd like to see another inning from him. He's settled down. Pitch count around 76/77 might be his limit .
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 01:08 PM) Norris has retired the last 24 White Sox he's faced. Are you counting that error by Castellanos ?
  13. Montas with 6 K , 3 BB through 3.
  14. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 12:26 PM) Montas looks like a bullpen guy not a starter. He's just 22 . For the Sox to have an above average future Montas developing into an above average starter is key. The worst thing the Sox could do is use him in the BP . Let him develop his pitches to go along with the heater. He's clearly not ready to be a big league starter now but he has great potential.
  15. Nothing flashy about Q . He just does his job very very well and with about as much emotion as a ping pong ball. It'll be a sad day when he is traded. There was a huge amount of doubters about him on this board.
  16. QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 06:33 PM) Slight exaggeration? By that he means sign Cubans because we lack talent at positional player talent in the minors.
  17. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 05:52 AM) Aren't there a lot of teams that spent over the cap this year and last year to the point where there aren't many teams that can sign International youngsters for next period? If so, Sox should spend a LOT then. Although I wouldn't complain if they went out and got this kid and EJM now It will be very interesting to see when the league decides he is eligible. If they don't make him eligible early 8 big spenders can't sign him. Cubs, Dodgers, Giants and Royals who exceeded their limits this year and Angels, D-backs, Rays, Red Sox and Yankees who got the max penalty of 2 years of not signing anyone for over $300,00 for 2 years. If they make him eligible soon as they can the Cubs Dodgers Giants and Royals will all still be eligible.
  18. Yikes I can't wait till this thread goes back to talking hockey.
  19. Sales 4th K tonight will be the 1000th of his career. If he makes it to 11 K's he will break the White Sox single season franchise record of 269 set by Big Ed Walsh in 1908.
  20. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 06:46 PM) Well if that doesn't sound a little weird! Why was he peeking.....oh never mind. He wasn't they were just talking about the guys who get out of the clubhouse the fastest. Anderson was saying that being in a clubhouse you see guys naked but Iguchi was gone so fast he never did see him naked.
  21. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 05:37 PM) Sox have no reason to give up, it's still 0-0. I rather not see them on the receiving end of a perfect game. Ditto . Also want to win.
