Mothers Day Game Thread Sox vs Dbags
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2014 Season in Review
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 11, 2014 -> 01:29 PM) Marshall not hitting his spots. 2 times catcher set up inside and he threw it low and away that Abreu fouled off. Maybe we can get to him. Nope threw some good changeups and stayed away from the middle of the plate with the hard stuff. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 11, 2014 -> 01:04 PM) Good time for De Aza to make up for his embarrassing blunder in the 1st. De Aza looks like he's 50 some times with his rumbling bumbling stumblings in the OF and on the bases. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2014 -> 12:40 PM) Two straight meh offensive efforts Give Anderson some credit. Can't just knock the Sox when a pitcher has it going. -
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 11, 2014 -> 09:19 AM) I was there, and it was. I wonder if any team would ever consider anything really radical like once the 9th inning starts get in free or for a dollar and sit in the upper deck. After all anything after 9 innings is called free baseball.

I know many of us are baseball fans and we'd like to see the best man win and be fair in our All-Star votes. Well f*** that. Vote early and often for deserving White Sox players and you can be both fair and a homer. Let's face it every city stuffs the ballot box for their favorites. If you have a social media outlet and you talk about the Sox push getting behind the team. Vote for Sox players , go to games. We have a team worth watching with exciting young players. This team believes in itself . Why should we all be the same dour Sox fans pointing at everything thats against the team winning. This team never quits. Lose Avi Garcia . Sucks we should lose. Didn't happen. Lose our leadoff hitter ,the catalyst to this dynamice new team . We should lose. Still not happening. Ok lose our best pitcher . Surely we will start losing now a bunch of games in fact. Nope ain't happening. Damn this bulpen SUCKS ! We are going to lose a lot of games. WTF ?!? How did they go from sucking so bad to being so good ? This is my little grassroots attempt to build some enthusiam around the Sox and I'm relying on you to carry it out. I'll vote for Sox All-Stars but social media isnt my thing and I can't go to games because I don't live there. Maybe getting a wildcard doesn't thrill a lot of people, but it sure would thrill me. I think it can happen especially if the fans get behind the team. They're already playing inspired ball without our support. Imagine with it. Edit: I haven't even pointed out a bunch of other s*** that went wrong.

Is This an Unprecedented Offensive Turnaround?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 10, 2014 -> 08:32 PM) Not just patient, but a plan of attacking each pitch. Hitting is always about knowing your strengths and your weaknesses as well as the pitchers . You get behind in the count and the pitcher knows you chase high heat or sweeping breaking pitches down and away you should realize those pitches are coming and teach yourself to lay off them. These are the constant battles and adjustment hitters must make . You know statistically you become a better hitter when ahead in the count so a lot of hitters take the 1st pitch. Other hitters swing at the 1st pitch thinking a pitcher also wants to get ahead because its to his advantage then and they're more likely to throw a meatball on that 1st pitch. It's the game within the game. With men on base you're pitched one way . With bases empty you're pitched another way. A hitter has to constantly monitor the situation and know the likely strategies of how he will be pitched in all situations. Hitters have to be educated on the game, certain things drilled into them. They have to anticpate like Flowers yesterday running to 3rd on a GB to his right when he was on 2nd base. Clearly he didnt tell himself stay put on a GB to my right unless it goes through the hole . You're not going to score on a single to left anyway if its between SS and 3rd base. Just as there are mental errors running the bases. Imagine the miscalculations that go into every at bat. The pitcher has to think like a hitter , the hitter think like a pitcher. Where's the ball going ? What's the location? Is he going to throw me a strike or try to make me get myself out ? Fastball ? Curve , Changeup ? He has to remember tendencies by many different pitchers . The best plan starts with knowing your strengths and weaknesses and the simple fact you become a better hitter ahead in the count thereby forcing the pitcher to come to you and if he doesnt you take your walk. -

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 10, 2014 -> 08:12 PM) New Flowers replacing old Flowers. New Viciedo replacing old Viciedo. 2014 Ramirez replacing 2013 Ramirez. New Gillaspie replacing old Gillaspie. Not sure you can throw new Gillaspie in there since he had his best month in April last year but yes so far big turnarounds in the others. Vote now for them as All-Stars. Abreu too. -
Chris Sale to start Thu May 22 vs Yankees

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 10, 2014 -> 04:23 PM) See Royals, 2003, Tony Pena as manager, Nosotros Creemos, and this team has a lot more talent that that team...led by Jose Lima's pitching and Beltran/Berroa/Randa/Sweeney/DeJesus offensively. http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/white-...&ocid=yahoo Sale feels brand new after simulated game, went full out last two innings...White Sox don't want him to be too amped up, problems are all muscular and not ligaments/tendons I think Sox fans if they really got behind the team would really inspire them to perform even better. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2014 -> 10:38 AM) The Sox aren't winning anything this year. Being .500 hasn't changed that.I know you've been trumpeting this for a long time now and logically it makes sense. But despite all the injuries , the bullpen woes, somehow the Sox have shown the resiliency to remain .500 when all logic would have you believe otherwise. Therefore , I state, that if we get healthy and if the bullpen has come together and if we keep hitting a wild card birth is not entirely out of the question. It wouldn't hurt the fans to start voting often right now for Sox All stars. There are plenty deserving as of this moment. I think Brooks Boyer should start making signs , or placards to hand out to any fans willing to take them and display them during the game saying " We Believe". The team believes in itself . Why shouldn't we ? -
Bullpen Leverage and Maikel Cleto
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Feeky Magee's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ May 9, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) This. Haven't read the whole thread, but I haven't seen Cleto DFA'd/optioned/whatevered/Francisco called up as I expected to this morning. Maikel has NO idea where any of his pitches are going. We could give him a chance to screw up one or two more games, or we could just say adios. Now you have. -
Where's Caulfield ? Holden I told you Cleto would be gone. I don't remember what thread but it was a recent one.

QUOTE (oldsox @ May 10, 2014 -> 03:02 PM) Elrockin prob never made an over/under bet with a bookie...... I think he's poking fun at himself . If I'm not mistaken didn't he say the same thing about the 5.5 innings pitched over/under for Rienzo ? -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 10, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) At the very least he's swinging less. He's walking at nearly 3x the rate of last year. Baseball is such a perplexing game . A simple thing such as a 1st pitch ball or a 1st pitch strike to a batter can make all the difference . I suppose it evens out over the year but I'd swear it seems like Viciedo 1st pitches have been more balls than strikes. If there are stats on this I'd like to know if my observation is correct. -
Guess I won't be humming the Lido Shuffle every time he pitches any more.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 10, 2014 -> 06:06 AM) I will say that I love how much our guys have been swinging 3-0 this year. I feel like we're usually a team that hasn't done that in the past and I love the aggressiveness. Votto hit his yesterday on a 3-0 count also and Tood Frazier hit a monster shot ( though not on 3-0) that went an estimated 485 ft. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ May 9, 2014 -> 08:09 PM) Must have been a partial microdisectomy. this is only back procedure I can see rehabbing that quickly. Excuse my ignorance but by its very name isn't a microdisectomy for the reason stated pretty much the same as like a herniated disc that is done by microsurgery instead of a scalpel ? -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 7, 2014 -> 08:57 AM) Perspective is amazing. There is absolutely no one on here who would have even thought that coming into the season. Ahem .

QUOTE (ptatc @ May 7, 2014 -> 01:33 PM) Read the first line. It is an old NBA JOKE. It was meant to be humerus. Which an old anatomy JOKE. I see what you did there. -
QUOTE (woods of ypres @ May 6, 2014 -> 10:06 PM) Do they still do the BP cup? And if so, did we win? Yes they are looking for a sponsor for it.

That number 14 they gave him will end up at the next Sox garage sale.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 6, 2014 -> 09:12 PM) Should have watched sox instead of hawks. Reading game thread I really want to see the pitch tracker. If zone was that bad it explains the swings at the sliders. What Beckham , Sierra , Noesi and Danks did tonight was like all the 4th liners getting goals and Raanta a shutout all in the same game.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 4, 2014 -> 03:43 PM) By my rough math of Abreu's HR/PA and giving him 700 PA appearances on the season, he is on pace to hit 60. Robin needs to give him a rest every now and then . That Cuban season was pretty short compared to MLB . He's going to wear out.
