  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 03:36 PM) Because Soxtalk is full of BIBEEP's (b****ing Internet Baseball Experts Expecting Perfection) or BABIP 's (b****ing Analytical Baseball Internet Purists ) . Take your pick.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 03:29 PM) Maybe Lindstrom needed the work. He threw 8 pitches and will be available tomorrow night. Had Semien leading off Doesn't teach calling for pop ups Yanked Johnson after 87 pitches Put Rienzo in the game Put Lindsrom in for the 9th. Some of the RV complaints today. Sox win 16-2. Yeesh. Why can't people just enjoy the game? Because Soxtalk is full of BIBEEP's (b****ing Internet Baseball Experts Expecting Perfection)
  3. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 19, 2014 -> 11:51 AM) That gif of Rienzo hugging Gillaspie is hilarious. Gillaspie is straight face, jaw chilling. That's why I call Conor Dexter.
  4. QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 06:19 PM) Normally in a rebuilding year you hold on to guys but yeah, he's toast. Fastball ain't fastand the slow stuff just spins. I heard Hawk say on a pitch to Donnie Murphy that his fastball was 96.
  5. No sweet swingin Dexter Gillaspie . He did have 2 hits against the Red Sox lefties he faced yesterday.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 02:13 PM) Abreu is in a 1-25 right now. Not a bad day to give him off against Lester. He's been streaky, had that 1 for 17 earlier so his 2 bad streaks have him 2 for 42 . That is very bad.
  7. Leury joins Wise and Casper Wells as Sox position players in recent memory to have pitched. Frankly I was wondering what happens if it goes too many extras when he pulled Petricka and Downs after only one hitter. But as other have said 15 walks, who ya gonna call ?
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 08:56 PM) I don't think the bullpen is great or anything but it's certainly not as bad as it has been. Things will get better as far as the pen goes. Wins r good.
  9. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 08:10 PM) So if De Aza continued to bat this way for the rest of the season, you'd expect his BABIP to be close to .138? No I'd expect him to be on the bench or in the minors.
  10. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 07:41 PM) Both! Considering there have been exactly 2 players since 1945 with a season BABIP of under .200, I think it's safe to say .138 is more to do with luck than lousy hitting. Speaking of BABIP, Tyler Flowers is now hitting .351 on the season with a .600 BABIP. That is not good. Watching his AB's it's safe to say it's lousy hitting.
  11. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 07:36 PM) Well there goes the hit streak. Glad he's ok Not if he gets an AB in extras.
  12. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 07:33 PM) I don't care if he's hitting like he's swinging a feather, a .138 BABIP is more bad luck than anything wrong he's doing I'd rather look at line drive percentage. BABIP can be deceiving if you think it's unlucky if the guy is popping everything up , or routine fly balls or weak ground outs. A lousy BABIP sometimes means its just that lousy hitting.
  13. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 05:50 PM) 1) WCIU doesn't have whatever "definitive" angle you're talking about. That would be the angle you'd need, is directly down the first base line. Really, the guy who had the best angle there is the home plate umpire. 2) It's not if he was off the base, it's a matter of when. As long as that ball contacts the mitt before he's off, he's out. The majority of the time a guy comes off, everyone thinks he's safe, but in reality he actually had the bag at time of possession. At full speed I agree with #2 but not when it's slowed down and you can see everything clearly. Ball in mitt foot off base . I mean when the opposing teams announcers say it going to be overturned then its pretty damn clear.
  14. Well that's another one outside given to Peavy. NESN announcers saying it caught the outside corner" apparently" like they wondered why.
  15. QUOTE (beautox @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 05:46 PM) I don't believe that to be the case, but MLB even said that the NY office doesn't get all the angles of the replay and flat out got the call wrong in the BOS NYY game with regards to the call at 2B. All the office in NY has to do is watch DirecTV . How hard is that ?
  16. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 05:45 PM) There wasn't a replay that showed him safe. That one they showed from by the dugout, his foot was off the bag way after the ball was in his mitt, not sure what they were trying to show there. It's as likely that he was still on the bag when that was caught, replays didn't show anything different. You're seeing something the NESN announcers and the rest of us didn't apparently ?? The definitive replay was basically shot from somewhere behind the runner along 3rd base and he was clearly off the base.
  17. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 05:43 PM) What's the point if you can't get calls right? Exactly.
  18. WTF the NESn announcers said it was obvious the Sox would win the replay appeal from the one angle that showed Napoli off tthe bag.
  19. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 01:39 PM) Given the injury to Garcia, I wondered if that changed the perspective of Soxtalk on what will happen with the former LF platoon. I won't even venture a guess as to what will happen. Just hoping they both do better than expected so any trade return we do get is better.
  20. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 02:52 PM) Exactly. And when and if (when), one of the 18 or 20 teams in June or July who still think they have a shot this year loses a middle infielder for the season, an experienced and playing-pretty-decently Beckham would be an appealing stopgap. s*** happens during the season. Teams develop needs they didn't anticipate. Carlos Beltran played 1st base for the Yankees the other night and we're not 2 weeks into the season. It will be nice for the Sox to have those players available when those needs arise. All of this made possible because there is zero actual urgency for the Sox to get all of their future regulars playing NOW! instead of a few months from now. There is only soxtalk.com-thread-urgency. I've already admitted that it's a selfish desire to see Semien in the Sox lineup now .We all know a successful rebuild hinges on getting more minor league pieces BUT having some early season success just might put some butts in the seats ,whereas, looking like the same team from last year is a surefire way to get the fans even more disinterested ( if that's even possible). If Beckham has value let him show it as the super-utilty guy playing SS, 3rd and 2nd base playing behind Semien and taking Leury Garcia's spot He needs to earn it now instead of having it handed to him like always.
  21. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 02:54 PM) Why not a guy like Jose Mijares? Might still be a possibility. Takes time to work out a contract sometimes.
  22. QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 02:50 PM) Hoping to catch lightning in a bottle. Thank you very much . I brought up his name as a free agent still unsigned in the Cahill thread . Yes I am tooting my own horn.
  23. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 07:16 AM) THere are still unsigned free agents. Closers Rafael Betancourt (39) Kevin Gregg (36) Joel Hanrahan (32) Ryan Madson (33) Right-Handed Relievers Francisco Cordero (39) Octavio Dotel (40) Frank Francisco (34) Cristhian Martinez (32) Brett Myers (33) Jon Rauch (35) Left-Handed Relievers Aaron Laffey (29) Jose Mijares (29) List from MLBtraderumors.com DING DING DING
