  1. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 01:18 PM) Another cool Simien stat..."With 4.53 pitches seen per plate appearance, Semien is fifth in the AL in that category" Here's more since we're throwing around small sample sizes. In the last 7 games he's batting .344 .444 OBP .522 SLG. and .966 OPS
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 11:17 AM) That covers most of it, good post. And I'll add, you certainly might up his trade value if he gets going later this month and plays well in May and June. In any case, it does not hurt Semien to play a little more in AAA, and the overall value equation says it is better to have Beckham play for now. Semien is a long term answer at one of the infield positions, but it doesn't have to be today. As a backup he's not going to get more than maybe 3 starts a week max, plus the occasional PH/PR role, and that just isn't enough. The problem with sending Semien down is that when the season started we had Abreu, Avisail Garcia, Eaton ,Johnson and Semien to watch for how the new look Sox would fare since most of us didn't see the Sox contending. With Garcia out for the year many of us would like to see Semien stay up since he hasn't done bad at all. He's definitely holding his own and is a big part of the reconstructed top of the order that has been getting on allowing Abreu to drive in runs. If he is sent down to make room for Beckham we're getting closer to looking like we did last year ( with less reliable starting pitching) which none of us want from a purely selfish point of view of wanting to see the future now. It's pretty obvious the Sox really like Semien's style of working the count. That has never been Beckham's strong suit. We'd all love to see Beckham gain some value but not at Semien's or our selfish desire to see him every day.
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 11:09 AM) We aren't trading for starting pitching (or a major position player) in-season. Players cost a premium from June to July and it would be incredibly short-sighted to pay that price in what should be considered a long-shot season at best. We should be saving our resources for the offseason and positioning ourselves for a real playoff run in 2015. Honestly, while this offense will come back to Earth at some point, Eaton, Semien, & Abreu all seem legit. We may be closer to being competitive that a lot of us originally thought. If we had won the Tanaka sweepstakes , I imagine the bullpen would've looked different and we might actually have had a shot at contending this year.
  4. Just saying there are options for relievers other than trades ; unsigned free agent relievers or starters that can be used in relief.
  5. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 10:01 AM) I'd rather sign Sweaty Freddy. He's one of the free agent starters still out there. There are other's who, if desperate enough , could be signed as a reliever. Freddy Garcia (37) Jon Garland (34) Jair Jurrjens (28) Jeff Karstens (31) Jason Marquis (35) Jeff Niemann (31) Clayton Richard (30) Randy Wolf (37) Barry Zito (36) Again according to MLBtraderumors.com
  6. THere are still unsigned free agents. Closers Rafael Betancourt (39) Kevin Gregg (36) Joel Hanrahan (32) Ryan Madson (33) Right-Handed Relievers Francisco Cordero (39) Octavio Dotel (40) Frank Francisco (34) Cristhian Martinez (32) Brett Myers (33) Jon Rauch (35) Left-Handed Relievers Aaron Laffey (29) Jose Mijares (29) List from MLBtraderumors.com
  7. 13 game hitting streak to start the season, 17 games going back to last year.
  8. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 12:30 AM) I like this team.. Imagine if we had one more starting pitcher and another good bullpen arm. If the Sox had got Tanaka ......
  9. Pretty resilient team. I want us to continue to pound the Tribe .
  10. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 11, 2014 -> 07:35 PM) Sweet Swingin' Conor Gillaspie! I've heard that somewhere before
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 11, 2014 -> 05:58 AM) I watch a lot of MLB Network. I haven't seen much buzz. Granted, I wasn't watching last night when he hit two more. But let's face it, if Abreu was on the Yankees, he'd already be getting daily coverage. Typical stuff, but I'll take it as long as Abreu is putting up league leading numbers. Ignore him. You're right . It hasn't been on MLB Network. After the Sox won 15-3 with Abreu's 1st 2 HR's the lead-in to that game was how good Tulo is , which, to say the least ,was disappointing. It'll never get as big as Puig even if he's close to 50 HR's by year end simply because he's not in a big media center, his arm or feet or glove wont win many games, he isn't an ultra young phenom like Trout or Puig making peanuts and it's not very likely that his bat will propel us to the playoffs.
  12. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 08:34 PM) And to think that he was expected to be the center fielder, until Eaton was acquired. He has looked pretty lost and not very graceful in the outfield. He may have speed, but he doesn't seem to utilize it very well. I think the Sox learned pretty quickly he was no CF'er. That's why they went after Eaton in the off season. There were some on here saying the same thing ( ahem) and I rarely voice strong negative opinions of Sox players . I've been watching how a good CF'er looks since Ken Berry patrolled the outfield and I think I have learned how they play the game .Garcia wasn't even close . But on the other hand I have been a big supporter of Garcia as a hitter when others voiced their opinion on his lack of discipline. I know his flaws at the plate as well as anyone,but physically he's a speciman and his baseball hitting talents are unrefined yet montrous. I will miss watching him develop a lot offensively and yes defensively too .
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 12:58 PM) I think it's more the fact that he said something stupid. Sounds stupid to you but suppose there is some merit in it. Even if he is talking off the top of his head we all know how baseball loves the longball. Baseball becomes like soccer with low scoring games with billions of entertainment dollars at stake.
  14. And since I'm one of few Gillaspie fans here I have a nickname for him that we all might agree on. Dexter .
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 09:08 PM) I've watched Abreu highlights of his homers and his swing is the real deal. I'm confident of that. I mean we had hopes for Viciedo, but Abreu's mechanics are so far ahead of Viciedo it's ridiculous. I don't even fear jinxing Abreu. He's got the swing. He might hit an alarming number of home runs in his rookie season cause you have to wonder what's gonna happen when the weather gets hot. Hope the team can keep hanging around .500. It's early and everyone was prepared for the Sox dark cloud to continue into the game after it was announced that Avasail Garcia was lost for the year with a torn labrum. But the White Sox had other ideas. Eat s*** Tribe.
  16. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 06:51 PM) Did it again got a run , didn't give any up .
  17. Didn't give up runs after getting some . See they can do it
