Nieto 2 run 2 out single with bases loaded ties game at 6 apiece in 9th.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Mar 2, 2014 -> 12:55 PM) 1.2 IP, 8 H, 1 BB, 4 ER, 1 K. Solid. 4 earned runs so far. He's responsible for the 2 on base so his line isn't complete yet.

1st 4 batters in TX lineup (Profar, Lillibridge, Fielder and Beltre ) are 8 for 8.
-
Garcia batting 2nd today.
-
Under ,we'll get some good surprises and bad ones too. Still too overly right handed in the lineup with a lot of people here expecting our LH hitters like Dunn, Gillaspie, De Aza and Danks not to make much if any contributions going forward.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2014 -> 07:16 PM) That goal by Toews was special. That is highlight reel material. The extra move by Kane to free up the tap in by Versteeg was special too. Toews having a great game also assisted on Sharp's goal. Kane with 2 off the post. -

Odd man rush Kane to Versteeg makes it 3-0 Hawks in the 2nd period at Soldier Field. NBC is setting back the televising of hockey 25 years with their far away high up views . Can't see anything but players skating around .Can't see the puck at all. I don't know if its because of snow and regullar camera angles aren't working, but its pissing me off. -
QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 05:38 PM) Beck had a 11.4% K% in High-A last season. Even though the ERA looks nice, why exactly should we be excited about him? Read the CSN article . He was on track to become a 1st round pick , spent too much time in the weight room, lost velocity , Sox took him in 2nd round. Now he say's he lost that weight room weight and the velocity is coming back to go along with 3 other pitches. He ended in year in AA and I think he helped the Barons win the Southern League championship. Yep he did http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=2...sp&sid=l111

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 03:01 PM) Beck is one of many minor leaguers I have my on this season. It's nice to have some exciting prospects in the system again. http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/white-...s-beck-thriving More about Beck and his off season conditioning program. All sounds very encouraging.

A little bit of silliness on picture day with Pat Tomasulo of WGN and Sox players and an equally silly interview with Adam Eaton http://www.southsidesox.com/2014/2/25/5445...hind-the-beanie

Abreu had an infield songle in his 1st AB . AViGar hit one out in todays intrasquad game.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 20, 2014 -> 07:51 PM) Abreu will start. Konerko unfortunately will too because White Sox. You put the best team on the field .The time for your investment to start paying off is from Day 1. Yogi.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 20, 2014 -> 04:06 PM) Because Abreu's hunched over... He's walking, can't be that hunched over if he's supposedly 4 inches taller and Dayan looks 2-3 inches taller .in the photo. I read Avi made Abreu look small so maybe Abreu isn't as big as we've been led to believe.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 20, 2014 -> 08:42 AM) How come Viciedo listed at 5'11" looks taller than Abreu listed at 6"3" ?

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 05:49 AM) The reason they never used to look at the starting position of the fielder wasn't because it was overlooked, it was because they didn't have the technology/math to factor it in. What they did instead was simply throw out all plays where an abnormal shift was detected, and allow the fielder's instinct as to where to position himself get baked into the total number at the cost of precision. But with the frequency of extreme shifting continuing to increase, I'm glad they've found a way to start factoring it into defensive measurements. As far as the Sox go, I can't see any reason for them NOT to start using it, especially given the fact that, outside of Sale, our pitchers aren't exactly "high K" guys. I will say, however, that the shift seems to be primarily a trick to improve range, whereas a lot of what made the Sox defense bad last year was physical and mental errors. A trick to improve range doesn't seem entirely accurate . I would call it more like position the defenders where certain players have proven to hit the ball more often.

I've always had a hard time believing in advanced statistics for defense but I'm starting to come around . Yesterday Clubhouse Confidential with Brian Kenny on the MLB Network had on a guy with Baseball Info Solutions. Among other things I learned the White Sox were 2nd to last in the Majors last year on shifts per batted ball in play. Seems as if the Sox front office is a bit slow getting around to the idea that shifts can help the team and in particular its overall defense and pitchers stats. Some other things I learned were only last year did these stat heads start looking at the starting position of a fielder when determining range on a batted ball . Seems they were more interested in the speed and trajectory of the ball. Unless I misunderstood that seems like its an impossible thing to overlook. I think they mostly were using video but now have people at games to track these things. They mostly were talking about DRS ( Defensive Runs Saved) rather than UZR and Andrelton Simmons and Gerardo Parra were tied for the best DRS at 41 runs . The Oriole ,Rays and even the Cubs were among the leaders in shifts per batted ball. They also said shifts can take 30 to 40 points off an individuals batting average. I think we've all seen Dunn have hits taken away so the more prevalent defensive shifting has become the worse Dunn has looked. I tried to find the video to what I saw on MLB Network .com but they look like theyre over 2 months delayed to airing something and putting it online to see at least for Clubhouse Confidential. Maybe its on youtube but I didn't look. Anyone think the Sox may soon address this glaring hole in their thinking . Any signs point to a change in philosophy at all ? Someone please change Solotions to Solutions in the title.

QUOTE (RoundingThird @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 10:21 AM) Actually it was 4. He said he would have listed Abreu 2 behind Tanaka, but excluded them for their age. The other 3 were Johnson, Semien, and Davidson. Actually excluded them because " I do not rank players with experience in a foreign major league as prospects ". -

Although Kiner never got the notoriety of someone like Stan Musial he was another fromer great who was known as a gentleman . Started his broadcast career with the White Sox ( so theoretically this could be in PHT). He then joined the Mets for their inaugural season and broadcast for over 50 years. He was dapper and kind hearted and dated such legendary actresses as Elizabeth Taylor and Janet Leigh. You would never know he was a HOF'er by his demeanor , he never flaunted it. He lived a full long life doing something he loved. Condolences to his family and friends of which there were many. This is a piece on him. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball...ticle-1.1605138

Probably doesn't deserve it's own thread so I'll put it here. MLB has the ongoing Face of MLB series where they match up the Face of a Franchise against another Face of the Franchise.Paul Konerko lost to Clayton Kershaw by only 4% in what I thought would be a landslide for Kershaw. Surely with the help of Soxtalk we could've pulled off the upset. But , alast, here was no support here.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 01:18 PM) The old I'm not saying he's going to be good, but I will argue and tell you that you are wrong if you say any different routine. A 10 game stretch in AAA. That is what you are basing this on? I think he can be a decent relief pitcher some day. As a starter, I don't think he will make it. My opinion. Maybe it is wrong. We will see. The old you said he was a dime a dozen and it just isn't a 10 game stretch ,it's his last ten starts in AAA before he was recalled. I'm just trying to say he isn't a dime a dozen. He worked his way up the minor league ladder and had the best stretch of that career at the highest level of the minors before he was brought up I am not predicting his future like you are I'm just saying he's more than worthy of getting a shot.26 is not old for a pitcher figure out how to use his stuff to get hitters out. Why pay big money for the type of production it's possible to get for much cheaper ? I'd even suggest if Jimenez was available at 2yrs $18M I'd do that. Maybe the Sox wouldn't. And I never said you were wrong. We disagree on him , there's a difference. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 01:02 PM) Just look at Charlotte's staff. Jason Berken had a lower ERA. Charlie Leesman had a lower ERA. Check out Dylan Axelrod's minor league career. It is quite impressive. 10 starts in a row similiar stats. I have not seen one example yet. You have 30 AAA 2013 staffs to chose from to cherry pick exactly as I did all you want . Surely you can prove to me Rienzo is a dime a dozen. I'm not saying Rienzo is guareenteed any future success as a ML either. Just show me those 12 2013 starters AAA starters who had a similiar 10 game stretch.
