  1. Would you feel more comfortable with Epstein having a busy off-season, or KW?? I like theo, and one game of my cubs-sox tix for next year says that he makes stellar moves and receives praise once again from peter gammons
  2. I dont know, I think he has taken some strides in the last couple of games. He is a headcase who stays away from his fastball if anyone hits it hard. But I think that there was a little progress, because when he would get into the forkball mode, Sandy would bring him back out and make him throw a change up in the zone, or a breaking ball for a strike on the first pitch. I think that if they can get him to set up his fastball instead of leading with it, he will strikeout alot more batters, and induce more ground balls. He didnt pitch that bad, got himself into some bad situations, and in the past he would have blown up for 15 runs, but they always brought him back to letting the other team hit some ground balls.
  3. I figured I would write out the formula that can estimate the worth of a franchise to determine how much profit is made, and how much is put back in. Then I realized after typing for 30 minutes on vectors and profit variables per year that I could probably just find a link on the internet that you could read if you wanted to. I found one that was ok, its in PDF form. Its sorta along the same lines as my college business class explanation of non-profit organization vs professional franchises, and its alot easier for me, cause im lazy, here ya go http://jse.sagepub.com/cgi/content/abstract/2/4/341
  4. ahh i just got on and I am 3 hours behind, damn this career!!!
  5. It looks like they are trying not to let him throw the fork ball. If he hits that first pitch strike with a breaking ball, he sets up his fastball nicely. If he doesnt work out, is charlie hough available?????
  6. just for the sake of arguing as usual, slow day at work
  7. I was joking, I just got out of school last year, and bought my first personal set of season tickets-great feeling. If you really want to get some cheap seats for the game, get off the red line and there are usually 10-20 people who will sell you decent seats for 20 bucks or less. Otherwise do what I had to sdo when I went to school in ohio, watch it on the internet---now thats die hard
  8. Ahem, I believe that has been my argument for the past 5 pages, no shout out???
  9. These are not movies. This is a sports team, one of the oldest, playing america;s favorite pastime. Baseball got America through several wars, as well as financial harships and terrorist attacks. It is not a simple restaurant or DVD. When you walk into a restaurant or other business, it is not the same feeling as walking in a ballpark. This is the place you want to take your kids to introduce them to a part of history. For many of us, this is what has made us who we are. I grew up in a household full of whitesox games and events. I can chronicle my life through many of the seasons of the Sox. If all I cared about was the popular product, I would be peeing on my hands on the north side. The reason that many of us are sox fans, especially in a city overrun by fairweather fans, is because we love the team for not only its future, but for its history. We love the winning ugly teams, we love the black sox not matter how bad the scandal (and the curse). We really do think good guys wear black, and we think that cubs fans suck. You cannot compare a bseball team, and an organization to anything else in the world, because I guarantee you that a restaurant did not help the city of New York recover from 9/11. And keep the morale of the country up when we were at war. Baseball is baseball, and the sox are the sox, and no matter what happens with the organization, or what you think helps profits. I will always love the sox.
  10. Take some money from the hooker and porn budget, and there is a double play season ticket package right there, problem solved!!!!!!!!! Lonely Lonely people OUT
  11. ah ha, gotcha. I might have gotten confused by him being born in Royal Oak, MI. They have the greatest sliders there in a little place called hunter house....... nice tangent... OUT
  12. I believe that was after he was traded, was it not???
  13. Carl Everett will never hit over 285 again in his career, I will give up my season tickets if he does otherwise, mark it OUT
  14. I agree with Steff, I am going to be a season ticket holder no matter what. I love the sox, and I like what they have done to make my baseball experience better, with the field, with the atmosphere. Now all we need is a few more wins, a little luck and back to the playoffs
  15. Personally, I like alot of the things that the team has done for the fans. All of the promotional days, making the park much better to watch a game in as well as more pleasing to the eye. It seems like they have the fans in mind with these improvements, no????
  16. I disagree with the notion that JR and the ownership doesnt care about the fan base and just wants to run this like a business. If you have been to the park lately, they are trying to make the surroundings more fan friendly day by day. Wait until you see what they do before next year, including changing all the colors of the seats (they are going to be green). Some of these imrovements would seem a little over the top as far as profit margin would go, considering they could use the money for other ventures and ways to make capital. I think they all know that the bottom line in making money for the team, is the fans, and the fans love for the team. JR has seen this first hand in the dissolution of the BULLS
  17. and we promptly traded him.
  18. The stadium is falling apart before our very eyes, not to mention that the city cannot tear it down considering its a landmark now. So the best they can do, when it becomes inhabitable, is either put up more nets, or move the team. Unless someone knows more than me.
  19. I think that the cub's days are numbered as far as out drawing the sox. This may draw up alot of people who dont agree with me, but I believe that 50 percent of their fanbase is only a fan of the team because of where the ballpark is located. When that becomes unsafe to play in, theres almost no way the city will allow a new building to be put up. This might make them move to the northern suburbs possibly which would def hurt the fanbase. This may be far-fetched, but I live on the north side of the city, just south of that s***ty piece of concrete, and I know for a fact that many of my neighbors only like the cubs because the park is there.

I was just wondering if anyone had played any of the new games out so I could hear some opinions before I buy any of them. Such as Tiger 2005, and Shellshock Nam 67, anyone???
  21. Considering our success rate with closers, and Coop's success rate with closers, I am not one to go out and pay for one. it seems every time we pick up a closer, they go crappy on us
  22. Because the cubs dont play on the other side of baltimore. Face it, especially with the flubs making playoff runs, the chicago fans are jumping on the fair weather band wagon quick as ever.
