  1. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) I just got one of these. They are called home vest. Triple Threat Sports had a sale when the Sox clinched the division and authentics were 99. I got mine and was wearing it this weekend when I was in Chicago and its pretty sweet. I'm sure you can find it elsewhere as well, but www.triplethreatsports was the website I think. Grandstand probably has them as well. Just know they are called home vest Thanks. Was it a one piece or did it come as vest and black undershirt? I was hoping to get it as a one piece jersey. I'm wondering about a number. I'd say putting #14 on there is a no-brainer, but if they don't resign Konerko, it becomes obsolete. #35 is a good choice, as you'd be harkening back to Frank's glory days.
  2. Was hoping for help on this - I really want one of the Sox's alternate home jerseys with the white/pinstriped chest and black sleeves. I looked all around the Cell, Dick's Sporting Goods, and I couldn't find them. I remember seeing them at the Majestic jersey shop on the 100 level last year, but they weren't around this time when I looked. I'm posting a pic of the jersey...anyone see this one available anywhere?
  3. I wish they would have a simple rule on this. If game time temperatures are between 57 degrees and 76 degrees and there is no rain, the roof must be open, whether in the regular season or playoffs. Without such a rule, I'm not sure how MLB can order them to do this. It seems like they should have it the way they want it.
  4. I had Journey's Escape and Greatest Hits on vinyl back in the mid-80's. Don't Stop Believin' was a great one. "Lights" was great, "Wheel in the Sky" "Seperate Ways," etc. Like all of the other South Suburban kids, I was pretty in to classic rock, the Loop, etc. I had Bad Company, Led Zeppelin, Steve Miller Band, Kansas, Boston, the whole 9 yards. Drove one of my college roommates (1990) crazy when I would play Legend of Zelda all night on Nintendo with the earphones on, saying "Another Classic Rock Album!!" every time I popped in a new CD. Then I was in a fraternity brother's room when "Smells Like Teen Spirit" came on the radio. That was the end of classic rock for me.
  5. QUOTE(sec159row2 @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 03:04 PM) game 2 season 2006 paid attendence= 12,650 my prediction... My guess is 25K. Opening day will be hard to get, and I think people are going to want to see this team. My guess on season ticket base is 18K if they lose the series, 22k if they win the series. Everyone wants to be associated with a winner. (Heck, in DC we had a first-year season ticket base of 24k)
  6. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 03:01 AM) St. Louis was in the playoffs. Oakland wasn't.... Duh. Of course the redbirds won the deal. DUH. LOL, nice one, Da Chort.
  7. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) I think there is an insider in the house, if I am interperet this correctly. I would not say that. However, I would say that I am familiar with the process. I think that it's important that people get this one right and understand it. There is quite a bit of anger on these boards about tickets. The bottom line is that Steff is right that MLB initially controls all the tickets. For those that are released to the White Sox, I am confident that the White Sox did the absolute best they could consistent with their current contracts. If a team signs a contract to sell its tickets, it has to honor that contract. Remember, they did limit the purchases to 4 tickets to one game only, which cut down the odds of ticket brokers swiping up all the tickets. I'd bet that the Sox would love to have WS tickets go only to long time, die hard Sox fans...but given that they have to sell tickets for 162 games all year, and that they only have 5 days before the WS to sell tickets to the public, I'd also bet that honoring whatever deal they have with Ticketmaster was the only choice.
  8. QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 10:33 AM) BB I thought you had season tickets.. did you not get the playoff rules? If you're not, disregard as continuing is pointless. I do not have White Sox season tickets. However, among other events, I have been to 3 of the last 5 All Star Games and went to the 2004 World Series. I paid face price for these tickets. Again, let me reiterate. I'm pretty sure on this one.
  9. QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 10:19 AM) But incorrect. http://www.internetnews.com/ec-news/article.php/1566561 :banghead Ever see Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade? When they are walking through catacombs in Venice, the German woman points at some drawings on the walls and asks Indy what a particular one is. Indy says, "That's the Ark of the Covenant." She replies, "Are you sure?" "Pretty sure." I'd say I'm pretty sure on this one.
  10. QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 09:03 AM) "Due to the policies and proceedures of MLB, WHICH CONTROL ALL ASPECTS OF POSTSEASON PLAY, the White Sox must strictly inforce the following...." (goes into a song and dance of the postseson game format, game times, dates, seat pricing, avaliability, etc, etc..) And this little gem which, thankfully, did not effect us... "MLB requirements PROHIBIT the WS from guaranteeing season ticket holders their seats, however the WS hope to provide these locations to most ST holders..." Why that last little rule...? Because MLB CONTROLS the tickets. MLB does control the tickets in the first instance. It keeps the number of tickets it needs for sponsors, rights holders, etc. and allocates them in the way they want. This is why the better the seat you have as a season ticket, the less likely that you will be to keep that ticket in the playoffs - MLB can bump you for a VIP. Once MLB releases the tickets it does not want to the White Sox, the Sox are in control from that point on. If the Sox have a contract with Ticketmaster for the sale of tickets, they have to honor that contract. If the Astros have a different contract in place, they honor their own contract.
  11. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 12:08 AM) Dye: -Vs Clemens - 6-18, 1HR -Vs Oswalt - 0-3, 3Ks *OUCH* -Vs Pettite - 6-18 weird Everett: -Vs Clemens - 3-20, 7Ks -Vs Pettite - 9-32, 7Ks Where are you getting these? Pulling them from MLB.com batter vs. pitcher? It's hard b/c you have to go season by season. For some reason, Crede hits Clemens well, too.
  12. (1) Don't let Lance Berkman beat you. (2) Throw strikes. (3) Get to their bullpen - Clemens and Pettite are not 8 inning pitchers. Work Qualls and Wheeler in the 5th and 6th if possible. (4) Get production out of Carl Everett, Timo Perez and Willie Harris as pinch hitters in the Houston games.
  13. I'd rather face Houston-- Runs Allowed: Houston 609, St. Louis 639 Runs Scored: Houston 693, St. Louis 805 Houston just isn't the offensive team that St. Louis is, and the Cardinals' pitching isn't that much worse. Even more importantly: Carpenter vs. CHW - 7-1, 1.97 ERA (and that's when he was just OK with Toronto) Mulder vs. CHW - 5-1, 2.47 ERA Clemens vs. CHW - 17-8, 3.35 ERA (higher than his career ERA), 3.94 ERA at the Cell Pettite vs. CHW - 10-7, 4.30 ERA (higher than his career ERA), 3-6 with 6.33 ERA at the Cell. GO ASTROS
  14. QUOTE(BabyJesus69 @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) i can't believe the sox would be so stupid as to screw up something this important Not to be flip, but they don't have a heck of a lot of experience with this kind of stuff...the World Series, that is.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 10:53 AM) Rather, it's all about getting season tickets. If the Sox can use this World Series to generate guaratneed season ticket holders for next year, then that's an opportunity they can't pass up. I know it sounds like the right thing to do to let the "true" fans buy the tickets, but that would be just foolish business. If you are committing to 81 games next year, I'd like to think you are a true fan. I think it's not only a brilliant move, it's the right move. Raise the season ticket base - what is it now, 14,000? Get it up to 20,000 next year - like it was in the early 90's, and the Sox will have a better chance of staying competitive for the next 5-6 years.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 06:33 PM) At some point, it is worth thinking about Podsednik's trade value...it almost has to have increased this season...going from being a .240 hitter to a .290 hitter int he leadoff hole, being an all star, being traded for Carlos Lee and having his name repeated ad nauseum with regards to that trade... At some point...we can get a lot of value out of Pods if we have talent coming up the pipe to replace him. I agree, plus Podsednik is not the type of player that ages well, I think. His trade value is peaking right now. That said, there would be STRONG pressure (either perceived or actual) from the fans to keep him around at least next year and perhaps for a few more years. Think about the pressure the Sox will have to re-sign Konerko. Podsednik has been huge for the Sox this postseason (really, he's been the most consistent hitter and gotten on base a ton). Unless Chris Young is 100% ready and comes out of the minors tearing it up, it would be really hard to let Podsednik go.
  17. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 12:33 AM) October 12, 1986: One loss away from elimination and trailing 5–2 entering the 9th, the Red Sox stage one of the most improbable comebacks in post-season history winning 7–6 over the Angels in 11 innings. After Don Baylor's 9th-inning home run reduces the deficit to 5–4, reserve outfielder Dave Henderson slugs a 2-out, 2-run home run off Donnie Moore to give Boston a 6–5 lead. California ties the score with a run in the bottom of the 9th but Henderson, who had appeared to be the goat when he dropped Bobby Grich's long fly ball over the fence for a home run in the 7th inning, delivers a sacrifice fly in the 11th for the winning run. This comes pretty damn close even though California did tie it in the bottom of the 9th. Yeah, that's a good one. But the Angels did tie that game. Someone on the Sox e-mail list just said it was a Donnie Moore moment. We all know what happened to Donnie Moore.
  18. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 11:45 PM) Berkman's homer was a 315 foot cheapie. Pujols smashed his. Pujols homer would have gone to Mars if it wasn't for the dome. He slaughtered it....murdered it....shattered it.....destroyed it. Can anyone think of a more dramatic home run to save a team from elimination? Gibson's home run won Game 1, that's all.
  19. QUOTE(Mickster @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 03:48 PM) You didn't subract Paul's $8.75M current contract, but you added in approx. $11M for next year. Your math is still off. Um, no. I assume that Paulie goes from $8.75 to $11 m . That's a net $2.25 million increase. You can subtract the $8.75 m and then add $11 million, but you don't get a different answer. Ok, Sexson got an average of $12.5 million/year, so maybe $13 million is right. I think $13 million is a bit pricy for Paulie, though, as much as I love him.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) We got a ten million dollar jump in payroll from 2004 to 2005 with a flat attendance number. This year we drew 400,000 more fans, had a 20% increase in ticket prices, an increase in all concession prices and parking, 3 rounds of the playoffs, a new more profitable TV contract, a big bounce in merchandise sales, not to mention our share of the profits from the sale of the Washington Nationals. Plus you are going to see a HUGE jump in season ticket sales for 2006. The more profitable TV contract was the reason for the salary bump from '04 to '05. Remember, the Sox bumped up salaries by $15 million (from $59 to $74) this year. The 400,000 more fans are worth probably $10 million more, which is why I suspect that $85 million will be the target. Remember, the Sox also lose $1.5 million in radio $$ next year from the WSCR deal. And the profit from the Nationals sale is a one-time revenue thing. It'll be $450 m (sale price) - $120 m (purchase price) - $40 m in operating losses, or a profit of about $290 m, divided by 29 clubs = $10 million. I doubt that will go directly into additional players, since the $10 million will not come back...although you could sign someone to a 4-year $10 million deal, I guess. Remember, also, that the Nationals sale money is going to be floating around all of MLB, and if the teams spend that money, this offseason could be nuts, especially considering the available talent.
  21. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 01:18 PM) My guess is they will go with about 80-90. We factor in pay raises to key players and maybe add a player or two. My guess is the middle of that range - $85 million. Key raises (Click Here) are Buehrle up $2 million, El Duque up $1 million, Freddy up $1 million, Rowand up $1.25 million, Dye up $1 million, Hermanson up $1 million, Marte up $1 million, Podsednik up $1.5 million, Uribe up $1 million. Contreras also gets a $1 million raise, but I'm not sure the Yankees don't pay that. Figure Garland to go up $2 million in arbitration, Crede up $1 million or so. AJ stands to make $2 million more as well. There are others I believe are eligible for arbitration, but no-one too critical (Willie Harris might be in line, etc.) Total contractual raises = $11.75 million Total arbitration raises = $5 million Coming off the payroll: Frank Thomas ($8 million) ($3.5 million buyout) Carl Everett ($4 million) ($0.5 million buyout) Ben Davis ($1 million) Timo Perez ($1 million) Shingo Takatsu ($2.5 million) Kevin Walker ($0.5 million) Total coming off payroll = $17 million (less $14 million buyout). Net change in payroll = -$0.25 million (less $4.0 million buyout), assuming no trade of El Duque ($5.0 million in 2006) or of any other starter to make was for Brandon McCarthy. Now, if the Sox resign Paulie at $11 million per (a $2.75 million raise), they would still have about $7.5 million to spend to get up to $85 million. If they trade El Duque, it's $12.5 million. $7.5 million is probably enough to get one high-profile free agent. You'd like to think the Sox could pick up a left handed power bat to fill the DH spot with that money, but it's not clear anyone of high quality will be on the market in that price range (every one would love Giles). It's not clear that you could get the Phillies to take so much of Thome's contract to leave the Sox with just $7.5 million - and he's an awful risk at $7.5 million with his back anyway. It's also possible the Sox sign AJ and Garland to longer-term contracts for which they would want to set aside money now.
  22. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) The author of these predictions should really lay off the crack. I actually wound up agreeing with about 90% of them, but: Giles to the Cubs? No way. Garciaparra to the Marlins? No way. Byrd to the Royals? No way. Piazza to the A's? No way. Among others, I can definitely see the Cubs going after Furcal, Yankees after BJ Ryan, Lawton going to the A's, and Randa to the Twins. I'd also put in LeCroy to the Twins. And Kevin Brown has pitched his last game. I'm not sure (1) he wants to pitch any more; and (2) he has anything left in the tank, anyway. Piazza is an interesting case. I think after playing his career in pitcher's parks, he deserves to go someplace that is more hitter friendly. I think he would fit in well in Arizona, or even in Philadelphia. Heck, Colorado if he could stand the losing. He could also trade leagues and DH/C for the Angels, Orioles, or the Rangers.
  23. QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 01:39 AM) No matter what happens the rest of the way, this team will always have a special place in my heart and I'll never forget 'em. Actually, if they lose this series, I won't have much of a heart left. It'll have been ripped out.
  24. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 15, 2005 -> 07:06 PM) With 50+ doubles. He hit 4 HR in a game the other day in the AFL. He has 9 HR in 9 games out there. Someone complete this sentence for me. Brandon Wood is the best hitting middle infield prospect since _________. (a) BJ Upton (B) A-Rod © Dude, he looks better than A-Rod
  25. QUOTE(3E8 @ Oct 15, 2005 -> 06:51 PM) The 20 year old who hit over 40 homers in high A? Don't think he's going anywhere. Yeah, but I *REALLY* want him in the Sox system. So there. Konerko for Wood?
