  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 20, 2014 -> 09:12 PM) Well we all know the Dakich family are a bunch of clowns. Anyone who knows college Bball knows craft is a great glue guy and role player. That's it. However I have no problem with them highlighting a kid who is a success off the court. We need more Aaron crafts and less thugs, criminals, and guys who get 0.0 gpas. There's a difference between highlighting and slobbering all over him. That's what gets annoying.
  2. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Mar 20, 2014 -> 11:53 AM) I'd assume playing time for all three of Hollowell/Perea/Etherington. With the two dynamic guards we have coming in in Blackmon/Johnson (to go along with Williams/Robinson/Yogi already on board), there's just not much time for Hollowell/Etherington, as neither has shown the ability to be consistant or shoot. As for Perea, he hasn't seen the floor in weeks. He may stay, but it's looking more and more like Indiana is going to pick up Anthony Lee. He did say IU is the frontrunner, but he also said he doesn't want to make a decision until after the Championship Game, so I'm not getting excited yet.
  3. The worst part about this Delaware-Michigan State game is that Doug Gottlieb is calling it. Man that guy is an annoying douchenozzle.
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 20, 2014 -> 09:30 AM) It is for the cardiovacualr system. It's worse than the other two by far. You won't get the liver problems with alcohol or the lung cancer from tobacco however you are much more likely to have a heart attack. Some studies even go further and state you are nearly guaranteed to have a heart attack with regular use. But you've gone even further said regular uses will have a heart attack with regular use.
  5. I saw donations to LGBT groups had an uptick today. I think that's my favorite way I've seen so far of saying "f*** you" to Phelps.
  6. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Mar 20, 2014 -> 07:39 AM) Think it will be Iowa State or Indiana for Anthony Lee. He randomly just started following Crean, IndianaMBB, and Robert Johnson (Indiana signee) on twitter yesterday out of nowhere. Follows no other team or coach, so it's at least a minor positive sign he's interested. Think he's visiting ISU soon. Indiana has a big need in the frontcourt and will have open scholarships. I was told to expect up to 3 transfers. Any word who? I wouldn't be surprised if Hollowell leaves.
  7. This is awesome. A little scary from a security perspective, but he didn't do any harm.
  8. Said during the broadcast that initial timeframe for Kane's injury is at least two weeks.
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 01:27 PM) I do 2 brackets when entering pools for $$$, but I will only claim "OH MAN I TOTALLY NAILED THAT UPSET/FINAL FOUR!" if it's with my #1 bracket. Pretty much what I do. I like to do multiple brackets because it's fun to try to play out multiple possibilities. But I guess we're not doing it right. For example, I just made one for the second Soxtalk pool. I spent about 3 minutes on it. But I wanted to throw Heads a bone and have ISU make the Final Four in one of my brackets. And just in general I hate the entire right side of the bracket, so I like seeing where I end up with it each time.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 01:43 PM) I havent seen the articles he linked somewhere else but I assume its the horribly flawed Harvard study where people who had heart attacks had smoked marijuana once in the past year before they had one. They didnt study any other factors about their lives and didnt factor in the overwhelmingly large portion of our population that smokes or has smoked marijuana. There is also an article passed around about risk of stroke where they asked no other questions and when they went back and asked about tobacco they found there was the exact same percentage of users. The lack of any real evidence of adverse effects in all these years should be a pretty decent indicator of its safety. With tobacco or alcohol you can literally find the exact chemicals that cause disease like cancer. Tobacco is rarely ever JUST tobacco as well. With marijuana they have not only medical upside but havent found any real long term health risks outside of the norm. And its not to say that marijuana is "healthy" because any mood altering substance is going to effect you in a negative way whether its pills, alcohol or marijuana. However when weighed against other "legalized" substances its not even close. There are probably worse risks with today's supermarket foods and Gluten than Marijuana. Shoot, Soy-based items are shown to cause cancer, but people still drink their soy lattes. I read the studies he posted in the earlier thread. They said that there was in increased chance of heart attack immediately after use (in other words, while still high), but didn't say anything about long-term effects. I'd like to see more research done on this in general. That's what bugs me most about it being Schedule I.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 09:47 AM) The Big 10 teams are just a b**** to pick this year. Michigan, MSU, and Wisconsin could make the final four, or they could lose their first game. Neither would surprise me. I have MSU in the Final Four in two of my brackets. I think they're getting hot at the right time and could be a nightmare for teams.

QUOTE (juddling @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 04:04 AM) I don't know how many people have been watching since the beginning but Person of Interest and their overarching plotlines have been wonderfully written and executed. To me this is the best serial show on tv....... It's definitely the best procedural type show on TV, for the reasons you mentioned. Justified...awesome. For my money, Walton Goggins is the best actor in television right now.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 09:43 AM) No I believe it was Rahm's team that came up with the projection and the actual has been a small percentage, not to mention the extreme corruption and bribery that went on when selecting the vendor. Meanwhile Colorado is making as much off of Marijuana taxes each month as they are on liquor taxes. They are projecting about 70 million in revenue this year. Just sayin Preach! And Rauner has said he wants to run Illinois just like Scott Walker and Mitch Daniels ran their states. Not sure if that will appeal to people or not.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 09:39 AM) Have I just not really noticed in past years, or are the Bears busier than usual this year? It's seemed to me that the NFL as a whole is busier this year.
  15. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 09:41 PM) Jeff Goodman ‏@GoodmanESPN 30s Temple forward Anthony Lee will transfer and be eligible next season. Sources told ESPN that Iowa St, Illinois, Marquette, Indiana in mix. I saw a long list of teams. Those, plus Louisville, Ohio State, Florida. Who knows where he'll end up.
  16. When I try to join this group it says "You are not a member of this group. (Error #113)" Also, is anyone going to set up the regular Soxtalk one?
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 09:59 AM) Practice is invaluable with the NCAA rules. Even if they lost the experience gained is worth it unless they are getting rid of the coaching staff. It's even stranger that Crean came out and said he wished they could keep playing. I don't deny the experience gained part. I just have this feeling there would have been some awful team implosion that led to more transfers if they kept playing. Probably an overreaction, but honestly the best thing right just seemed to be to write this season off and head to the offseason for a fresh start.

    2014 TV thread

Shameless just doesn't have any direction anymore. I still enjoy watching it, but it's not award-winning television like I thought it would be its first season. Kevin, Mickey, Carl and Lip are the only characters whose storylines I enjoy right now. All this stuff with Frank is just bleh, Fiona is annoying and Debbie's whole thing is just strange.
  19. I'd imagine Nieto is very, very long shot for the backup spot. It seems the question would be whether they want Phegley to get everyday at bats in Charlotte or see what he can do spelling Flowers once every fifth game or so. EDIT: Admittedly I have a soft spot for Phegley because we were at Indiana at the same time. But he has taken a year to adjust to every level so far, and I hope that would continue one last time for the bigs. We shall see.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 04:31 AM) Why would you be cool with declining additional practice time for a young team? It's stupid. Normally I'd agree with you. But with the way the season ended, especially with rumors of Vonleh holding himself out solely for draft stock and just a general lack of togetherness with this team, I just don't think it would have ended well.
  21. Cool with declining CBI, not cool with Glass being a dick about it. And I wonder if there's some dissension between Crean and Glass. Certainly possible.
  22. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Mar 16, 2014 -> 05:49 PM) Still a bunch of research to do, but my gut reaction is Louisville, MSU, Florida and Wisconsin. My brain might talk me out of that last one, and I may end up with Virginia over MSU. I've been mulling this one over. I just don't think I can pick a Bo Ryan team to go past the Sweet Sixteen.
  23. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 09:26 AM) Why has everyone turned on Crean so suddenly? Hell, if available, I'd fire Groce in a heartbeat and hire him. I have a feeling your Illini compatriots on this board will disagree with this....
  24. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 08:43 AM) Deserving or not, no way an IU team with a winning record gets left out of the NIT. Yeah, I figured being a "name" will help. TV $$$$$. We shall see.
  25. Wow that game was awful yesterday, and a microcosm of why this team was frustrating this year. Not even if sure we'll make the NIT. I've seen talk that some bigtime boosters are offering to pony up for Crean's buyout, and then want to get Woodson after the Knicks fire him. I'm not sure I'd like that. I'd be really surprised if Crean isn't back next year. But if it's similar to this year, he gawn! And if Vonleh does come back, anything short of the Elite Eight probably means Crean's gone.
