QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) How much have we typically outperformed PECOTA? Wasn't it by like 2-3 games on average, or more if you excluded 2007 where we vasltly underplayed it? If that's so then this is only a .500 club at best in 2010

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 03:32 PM) I heard he is in the best shape of his life. And Don Cooper is working with him and can straighten any deficiency he may have

QUOTE (joeynach @ Feb 2, 2010 -> 06:41 PM) Well despite his monster first half HR total if he was injured 2nd half then we dont want an injured player anyway. Agree

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 03:33 AM) Despite his career year, I have to think he's getting a pretty small contract.. I have no interest in this K man

Seeing Damon on the couch reminds me of me... being on the couch that is

I wonder if the Sox are interested let alone Damon?

As an old tme fan 1964 when we finished one game behind the Yankmees and I believe we won 99 games was a pretty bad feeling. 1967 weas really quite a season. Pitching-pitching-and more pitching kept the Sox in it till those last 3 or 5 games when we played the A's and Senators and got swept. The offense was inept with Pete Ward leading the team with 18 HR's. I think the team BA was like .220. I remmeber a funny article about the upcoming '68 season with make believe highlights and it said something in there about the "White Sox set a new record by getting shut out 6 times in a row-they win three of them"

QUOTE (BlizzardOfOzzie @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) Sorry if this is old news already - it's been a while since I've been here, but ... are we keeping Buerhle's opening day start streak intact, or has Peavy been designated the true # 1 ace and is he going to start instead? Doesn't matter to me, I'm just curious. Technically - we now have two aces, so that's kickass. Mark has earned it and I am sure Jake won't mind at all

Sox not adding a LH bat; looking at relief, Damon?
elrockinMT replied to beck72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If they were to sign Damon he isn't going to replace CQ in the OF. He can rotate around, but most likley plays a lot at DH. I would not complain if they sign him, but Dye is still an option IMO -

i don't see where the Sox offense has been improved all that much. Pierre for speed and average equals Pods. Teahan might be an improvement but we lost power in not signing Thome and Dye. We need some more offensive punch as the team hasn't gotten much faster -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 05:19 PM) Im just wondering, if Thome is taken out of the Twins lineup and put in the Sox, do those numbers completely reverse? I mean, if the point is that losing Thome accounts for a 131 run differential.... Does that mean RBI's plus the runs he (or anyone) would score? We have lost run production IMO with the loss of Dye and Thome. Tehan makes up some of it, but I still think we are lacking. But, compare A Jones with D Wise and Vizquel with Lillibridge and we add some right?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2010 -> 07:14 PM) That is insane guaranteed money for Sheets. Pure insanity

I think we need some more offense. Losing both Dye and Thome lessens our offense and I don't see where we have added anything in the offensive category. The idea of a DH by committee has some magic ring to it, but the realiity is you need bats to drive in runs. I don't see the improvement with what we have added and that includes Rios. The best we will possibly have is Rios maybe matching Dye powerwise. He hasn't shown much for awhile now and this hype about his last ten games of 2009 means nothing unless he can do it over 162 games in 2010. Andruw Jones and Vizquel are on the down side and are role players. Kenny Williams is kidding himself if he thinks different. I am interested in seeing what develops out of ST, but it had better be something.

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) Even if he played 150 games this year, he still does not get to 600 home runs. He is a wonderful person, but we have to move on, he has not figured out how to beat the shift and soft tossing lefties make him look bad. I would have liked to see more opposite field hitting by Thome also, but the reality of it is the Sox paid him to hit homers not singles to left.

Andruw Jones in the Best Shape in a Decade?
elrockinMT replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 05:37 PM) Good to hear, but there seems to be a glut of positive spin Sox stories out there. Danks circulation problem...check. Linebrink ready to go...check. Jones in great shape (no need for another DH)...check. Rios's swing is perfect after five swings...check. It's all good for now, and I'm looking forward to this season, but I'm not buying into all of the hype. I'll believe the hype when translates to wins in April. You are right and they usually wait till Spring Training, but then again I guess we are pretty close. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 11:04 PM) Trib Not a surprise really, but more confirmation of his potential move. I would agree that this his possible future position with the Sox and I feel very strongly both ways about it

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 06:52 PM) At the end of the day, if it becomes evident that we are no where near each other in terms of John's long term viability in Chicago, the sooner he gets traded, the more Kenny can get for him. If John wants to stay here, great. But if he wants more money than we can afford, he needs to go while his price is still high. You can't lose a John Danks for a draft pick. I think he will be signed. If this team has money as Mr Reinsdorf says then keeping the pitching staff in place is the best thing we can and should do

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 09:08 PM) Dye is still a very good hitter and would be productive and a bargain. I'd like the Sox to talk about bringing him in as a DH and part time left fielder. You could get him for cheap too. I posted before I read yours, which is exactly what I said
-
Would like to see Dye stay with the Sox and be the DH asnd PT OF'er and IBman
-
Hope he stays with the Sox. He could DH and is still physically able to play 1B when needed

White Sox agree to terms with Jenks and Quentin
elrockinMT replied to justBLAZE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 01:20 AM) Quentin needs to show he can stay healthy first. 2010 could be a monster year for him like 2008 almost was-and kindasorta was -
Which team did you have higher expectations for?
elrockinMT replied to Real's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I watched a bit on ESPN BBTN last night and Buster Olney says the AL Central is weak and the Sox have done little or nothing to get better. They are old and added older players to the mix. He thinks Detroit might be the team to beat this season
