QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 5, 2009 -> 04:08 AM) We wouldn't be talking about this had we not given Swisher away for nothing. Can't disagree. Betemit might still come around, but he is a role player with not a real good glove. Swisher played an excellent 1B when needed all three OF positions and could DH. So he pouted last season. Seems like management should have kicked him in the butt rather than get rid of it

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 5, 2009 -> 01:33 AM) The Plan was to trade Dye for Bailey and an OF prospect. So, i believe he would be replaced in the event of trade. Yeah. Trade Dye for an underperforming AAA pitcher and an unknown. Makes sense to me.

Nothing wrong with Pods. Trying to lay the blame on one guy is insulting the rest of the non performers. Give them all their due. We are still erly into the season. When you put role players out there to perform as a starter you have problems. It's not their fault and once we have a healthy team back out there we will start winning.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2009 -> 02:24 AM) Yes and No. There's still so much time left, and we were in the same position we were in last year. Also, if Quentin and Thome hit a combined .225 this season, then it's not meant to be. I do agree KW should be ashamed of the pathetic lineup that's been on the field the last couple of games. No excuse for Lillibridge/Pods to be on the MLB roster. If he would have put one cent into improving this year's offense, then maybe he could honestly say he tried his best. I am still tying to figure out the Swisher deal. What Nick needed wa s akick in the pants not a trade. However I think the pitching staff and the injuries are ore to blame at this point 25 games into the season. We have plenty of time to turn things for the better. But, KC is looking darn good

QUOTE (joejoedairy @ May 4, 2009 -> 11:48 PM) we can take solace in the fact that 3 regulars are out, right? If solace is a salve for the wounds inflicted by a medicre offense on its fans than yes

Is the offesne going to make a fight of it anytime soon? It is really a depressing situation to be watching these games and basically is a punchless group

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ May 4, 2009 -> 11:28 PM) Jose Contreras is guaranteed just one more start, according to manager Ozzie Guillen. Contreras, 0-4 with a 8.31 ERA, will pitch Thursday against the Tigers. If he struggles once again, he will be kicked to the bullpen. But at this point, there isn't a clear choice to replace him in the rotation. Clayton Richard is an option, but not a great one. Stay tuned Sox sign Pedro Martinez (maybe?)

I like basball a lot. I hope that playing the Royals after the bad blood earlier lights a fire under the tails of the Sox. I saw the last two games of the Sox-Rangers on TV and was very disappointed

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 4, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) Phillips and Morgan. Morgan is a complete idiot Disagree. Morgan is a very knowledgable baseball guy and just expressing his opinion

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 4, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) Who was arguing on the broadcast last night that position players (Josh Hamilton) are more valuable than front-of-the-rotation starters (Volquez)? Joe Morgan

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ May 3, 2009 -> 11:10 PM) Mariners Sign Jerry Owens By Tim Dierkes [May 3 at 5:59pm CST] According to Ryan Divish of the Tacoma News Tribune, the Mariners signed outfielder Jerry Owens to a minor league deal. Owens was designated for assignment to make room for Scott Podsednik a few days ago. Owens, 28, spent most of last year at Triple A (his third stint at the level). He hit .276/.346/.316 with 30 steals in 43 tries. In their 2007 Handbook, Baseball America had this to say about his defense: "He covers plenty of ground in center field, though his arm is below average." With our luck he will probably become a proficient and prolific power hitter

QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2009 -> 03:03 AM) No no no! You traded Swisher to get Betemit as a possible replacement for Josh Fields if he struggled. If you don't play Betemit at 3rd base then, it makes a terrible trade even worse. Getz doesn't have the arm to play 3rd base. Getz has been playing pretty well. Nix showed some real poise out there today. I think most of the problem has been injuries and the inability to deliver the clutch hit. I also wonder at times if Coack Cox at 3B is becoming too tentative in sending runners. However the scenario when we get a runner (s) in scoring posiiton and less than 2 outs is a K followed by an out of some type. I would like to see Fields dropped farther down in the line up. Lilli got a couple singles today but singles are all he hits and not many of those. Betemit shows some power, but he is an atrocious 1B defender. I don't know where else to put him though. Can he really play any infield position or is that just what the Yankmees told KW when he was traded? Middle relief is still a problem in my book, We just aren't gellin yet and hopefully wer are better than a .500 team

QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2009 -> 02:08 AM) So Ozzie wants Getz to get some playing time at 3rd base in the upcoming weeks. Shouldn't we worry a lot more about CF than 3B, a position that Betemit can play? Rate the off season moves now

THE Chicago White Sox vs Texas Rangers

We stink right now. Hopefully we smell like roses soon or this is a long season of frustration -
Lillibridge is not going to be of any help with the bat so I hope he can show some leather tonight if he plays CF. I don't doubt the kid is trying hard, but pretty weak with the lumber is all I can say

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 3, 2009 -> 03:50 PM) I wonder how many pages of posts we could fill over the years about how the Sox show favoritism towards Owens. He had what, 390 career ABs as a 28 year old? Most in a meaningless year. Hopefully now this ends the conspiracy theorists re: ozzie, kw and favoritism. Favortism is not what I was thinking. They tried to give the guy an honest shot, but he didn't show much with the bat. But, remember his catch a couple weeksa ago? He gave it his all for the team. He just didn't have a whole lot to give is all. Good bye and good luck Jerry O

QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 3, 2009 -> 03:25 AM) I believe Carl Everett, Ryan Bukvich, Tim Raines Jr., Keith Foulke, Tim Bittner and Oneli Perez are all on the Newark Bears' roster. Jerry would feel right at home. If Keith Foulke is there we might think about signing him for middle relief

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 1, 2009 -> 06:12 PM) If there was ever a time for some Alexei in CF time, it'd be now. That wouldn't be any better at this point. Alexei would need to get ready for the OF job and get used to playing there. You don't need to mess with 2 positions when Pods and/or Lili can handle things until BA gets back to CF -
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 09:25 PM) Be patient my friend, it is coming In about 2 years

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 08:54 PM) The way that Getz was hitting, there is no way he isn't the regular leadoff hitter. Getz is the grinder that Ozzie has been searching for. Or Pods leading off and Getz the #2 hitter with Fields like 7th or 8th in the line up

QUOTE (Baines3 @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 08:22 PM) Pods is back! Sure glad he's back in a White Sox uniform. Maybe he can add a spark to the top of the line up
