QUOTE (Knuckles @ May 8, 2013 -> 08:08 PM) Honestly how many of you think Bulls can win this series? I wouldn't bet on it by any means

The refs are f***ing Taj Gibson

LeBron is easily the dirtiest star player I've ever seen. And he b****es non stop about contact. Anyway, you can't have Daequan Cook in the game, at all. It is absolutely ridiculous that Rip Hamilton isn't playing. He must have said something to Thibodeau to piss him off because he is in a different from world from Cook. The problems run far deeper than that, but I'm sick of Cook getting exploited at both ends of the floor. Tonight the refs just indiscriminately called a bunch of fouls but didn't actually stop the game from getting out of hand. LeBron James fouls on almost every single possession. You will have to actually call a foul on him if you want him to play it fairly. That said, make a shot. Quit turning the ball over. Shouldn't be beaten this badly. Let's turn things around at home...hopefully by then we might get some injured guys back in the lineup.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 8, 2013 -> 10:04 AM) @FisolaNYDN Spoelstra vs Thibodeau is really Riley vs Van Gundy all over again. Just hope Tom doesn't find himself clutching LeBron's leg for dear life wow, really? If Erik Spoelstra was coaching this team, we would have lost about by 20 on Monday. If Thibs was coaching the Heat, they would have beaten us by 30. Thibs is not a perfect coach and there have been times I've thought he's blown it--but he's grown, too. He's always added a ton of wins and generally maximized our team's potential, but the way he's managed our team late in games has been exceptional. It seemed like his main weakness in the past was managing our late game situations, which was probably due to an over-reliance on Rose. We've closed games very well so far in the playoffs without anyone on the team.

Sox setting up for the end of the Konerko era?
Jake replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Morales makes the most sense and at the moment I don't think he's going to get a huge payday. He may even try for a short term deal so he can get back into free agency, which would be okay with us. McCann might get overpaid for a soon to be 30 year old catcher. Utley is a big risk too, but his age might drive down his price. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 7, 2013 -> 06:44 PM) Yeah, none of these minor leaguers are going to be Konerko's replacement. And while I still have faith in Viciedo, I think you keep him in LF until someone forces him out of the spot or until he shows he can't handle the position defensively. That means free agency or the trade market. One name that would be somewhat intriguing on the cheap would be Kendrys Morales. He'll be 30 to start the 2014 season, he can hit RHP, and playing at Safeco this year could suppress his power numbers. If you can get him at a reasonable price, he might be a nice replacement for Konerko. Kendrys Morales would probably be a perfect pickup for us. Shouldn't command a mega-contract but will give us an important middle of the order bat. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2013 -> 07:04 PM) One issue with Dunn is that he always seem to "set up" and lock into a position to catch the ball...then, for whatever reason, he's having a very difficult time adjusting. Part of it is simply his size and frame. This is what I was trying to say. I haven't noticed it in particular. -
We've had bottom 5 in AL bullpen by ERA twice in the recent past (2006, 2007) and top 5 twice (2005, 2010). The other years from 1999 till now have been from 6-9 in the AL. I don't know that ERA is the best way to measure bullpens, but that's one way to chew on it. Doesn't seem like a major problem. There are always good teams with bad bullpens and bad teams with good bullpens.

I'll be happy to get Gordon and Dayan back in the lineup. It's not totally true, but hitting can be contagious. Just need to get things rolling again.

Losing to the early favorite to win the Cy Young with no DH and your starting LF on the DL isn't really the thing that should motivate you to start moving around the lineup.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 7, 2013 -> 08:51 PM) Hasn't the pen been very good for years? Yes.

What would we do to the lineup tomorrow to make it better?

Great game. Hard for me to say we gave this one away.

I honestly don't think the benefit of moving up 10 spots in the draft is worth removing any chance of competing. There are frequently really great players available all over the first round, not to mention throughout the draft.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2013 -> 06:12 PM) Not true at all. Facing a dynamite righty pitcher with no DH is perfect time to rest Konerko. My bad, didn't realize it was Harvey tonight

Once upon a time I was getting the Score in Memphis. Has only worked about twice though

The only real explanation for PK sitting out is that his body just isn't holding up like it used to

I missed the memo on why PK is out

QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2013 -> 04:20 PM) Dunn has been fine defensively at 1B since he's been on the Sox. I agree. He's fine. Not great and a lot of ST'ers only remember the couple mistakes he's made. My dad insists that he always steps forward to early when he receives throws and that it costs him range...I don't know if I see that. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2013 -> 01:37 PM) In his best year of 2008, he only averaged 90.6 mph, the lowest of his career, until 2012's 90.1 Yeah, I'm not SUPER concerned about it. Pitchers can adapt, but he certainly will have to do that -- his pitching style isn't a perfect match for the type that can sustain some velocity loss. He isn't Mark Buehrle and that's why Coop keeps saying he needs to learn to pitch like him. I don't see any reason, at the moment, to have him come back any sooner than the 30 days he's allowed to rehab though. Let's see how much velocity he can gain back and let him hit any speedbumps in AA/AAA rather than Chicago where we've had a pretty good run of starting pitching so far.

My brother passed the field sobriety test and almost got off without a breathalyzer. He later blood tested .19 -- the legal limit in CO is .05. Sounds like field sobriety test just sucks as an indicator. It's so crazy to think what something like that can do. I'll be honest, my brother and I think the reason he got accustomed to doing that was when he drank underage. As a high schooler, he would go to "parties" and drink with his friends and he would basically have to drive home so not to attract the attention of our parents. Of course, my parents would say that they would pick him up anytime for any reason, but high school kids don't weigh the potential death of self or others versus getting grounded very well. Once you've done it a few times, you start to think it is okay. "My threshold is higher." "I've done it a million times." It's a tricky problem to solve because the people committing the offense are physiologically disabled to a certain extent when it comes to making good decisions. I'd imagine many of the people that do this (not all, by any means -- there are some assholes that know exactly what they are doing) would say they wouldn't ever drive drunk when they are sober. Then they have some drinks, maybe don't realize how much they had, maybe think it's just a one time thing, think it is their only option that night for some reason...who knows. With all that said, AFAIK drunk driving rates are trending downward. It's hard to deal with because it is so entrenched with some people...it's far easier to try to get young people to never start than it is to get the town drunk to quit doing the thing he's done for 20 years. My dad said when he was a younger guy in 70s, 80s he and his friends would ride MOTORCYCLES drunk. They never even thought about how that might be illegal -- he said if you got pulled over, lots of cops would just take your alcohol or drive you home.

With all the times in the past two weeks that the Bulls have had "no chance" of winning....I can't help but have some optimism for now. The nice part of all the injuries is that I won't feel that bad if/when we lose, but we play so hard and so well that it is just magnificent to watch no matter the result -- especially when "win" is a potential result no matter who plays.

I wonder how tomorrow night's game will go. If it's close, is there any chance that the Heat just fail to score down the stretch again?

QUOTE (bmags @ May 7, 2013 -> 11:54 AM) How do we know Viciedo doesn't realize it? I mean I suppose he does, not that it really matters. My experience is that players don't tend to think in such big picture terms because they are so wrapped up in the day to day.
