  1. QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2013 -> 03:05 PM) Yes, but where are these resources going to come next year to fill the 1B, CF, 2B, C spots? It seems inevitable the attendance is going to be horrible this year unless a drastic turnaround takes place. We're dropping about $50M in payroll. CF is covered. One of 1B/LF will be filled by Viciedo. 2B can be handled by Keppinger or Beckham and we have Sanchez in the minor leagues. The book is out on Flowers, but we will have money to fill that position.
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ May 5, 2013 -> 03:03 PM) This team with the same pitching staff, the same lineup minus AJ but plus a real 3B contended for an entire season. Can't be that crazy to think it can continue to do that. Also, we will have our salary commitments dropping from $122MM this year to $74MM next year.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) So that means you think they can contend next year with Peavy on the roster? This team with the same pitching staff, the same lineup minus AJ but plus a real 3B contended for an entire season. Can't be that crazy to think it can continue to do that.
  4. I would trade Peavy only for exciting MLB talent and only if we're definitely out of the race
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2013 -> 02:58 PM) Question is, what has to happen for Sox to even contend the next few years with the likes of Detroit and KC? Like it or not, there's just a huge talent gap from Detroit-KC-White Sox. Nobody would have said this about the Royals/Sox last year and they aren't much different from last year. James Shields, Ervin Santana, Wade Davis
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 5, 2013 -> 02:57 PM) Up for a decade of losing? I'm being sarcastic. This club should never have consecutive losing seasons, let alone any at all really
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2013 -> 02:56 PM) And how is that? Trading from one of the three worst farm systems in all of baseball? We have a pretty good staff right now. It was made with good late round drafting, a number 13 draft pick, Aaron Poreda, Clayton Richard, and Brandon McCarthy
  8. The Royals are a nice case study too since they are chock full of perennial all-stars that they've acquired due to high draft picks
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) Did you watch Mark Appel pitch the other day? There's absolutely no shame in being the worst if you're going to have a bad year where nothing goes your way. Elite pitching can be had without being as bad as the Cubs
  10. Last year's team was never above .500 until May 24 and they were perfectly healthy. I'm not ready for the tear down just yet
  11. The hits always come in bunches against Q I've always been suspicious that his pitch sequences don't change each time through the order. They all start picking up on what he's doing around the same time in the game
  12. Nice recovery by Wise, about went in a circle there
  13. QUOTE (Jake @ May 4, 2013 -> 10:53 PM) Val Kilmer - great Batman or the GREATEST batman?
  14. If everyone is healthy going into the Heat series, it is worth questioning whether we are at our best with Derrick. That is an unfathomably large "if" though
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 4, 2013 -> 09:36 PM) What we learned today is SS2K5 shouldn't bother watching games *like*
  16. Deron, you remember nothing of that Arizona comeback. Nothing!
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2013 -> 09:12 PM) Humphries giving the Bulls some quality minutes here.
  18. "Joe Johnson cannot get going" Who's guarding him?
