Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
It will shock me if Rangers don't do anything.

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 12:19 PM) Gillaspie shouldn't be starting on this team after this year. He's not very good. Of course he should be on the team. And, for now, he should be the starting 3B. The emergence of just about anyone as a 3B prospect would certainly relegate him to a bench role. There's no reason for him to not be on the team.

If Dunn went to Texas, he'd be beloved and their GM would be hailed as brilliant. He'd continue to knock in runs for a team that really needs it and they wouldn't have to give up anybody that the fans are familiar with to get him

Baseball America made the perfect comparison for Iglesias - Rey Ordonez. Rey was a f***ing amazing fielder, but just an abysmal hitter with no silver lining at the plate. While he has some of the best UZR numbers I've ever seen, he only exceeded 1.1 WAR once in his career.

No one considers it a bad one, but in mid-season there aren't many clubs that have budgeted for it.

I would feel that way if bucket hadn't made it seem like a deal was, in fact, likely Could be misreading that enigma though

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:05 AM) If you trade Alexei today, it wouldn't hurt to give Beckham a tryout at SS the rest of the way. I still would be interested in bringing Semien up. Can't argue with having Beckham slide over, though. Wouldn't mind seeing Sanchez up, but it would be like Jose Iglesias in that you know he's not going to hit

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:02 AM) Would he be a good defensive shortstop? We need that. I would say he probably couldn't be much better than average and there is some chance that he is bad at SS. I'm okay with that, though, if it makes room for a good 2B. I'd just assume bring up Semien, really

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:57 AM) Or maybe the Sox want to give Garcia a shot in CF, move ADA to LF and Viciedo will get some practice at 1B and split time with Dunn/PK? There's no way in hell Garcia should be getting more than token innings in CF

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:48 AM) This org has talent in it that can contribute pretty soon, now it's all about turning that talent into actual big league contributors. I still think that Dayan is the player most able to turn this franchise around. I wouldn't call it a likelihood that he does, but if he just starts to sniff his potential... The nice thing about getting Garcia is that it makes it hurt less if Dayan does not eventually pan out. I doubt they both fall flat. It should be said that IMO Garcia does not have as high of upside (as a hitter) as Viciedo.

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
We don't necessarily have to do this, but you have to think at least one of the veterans will go. Shaking things up seems inevitable and the right thing to do.

Rangers make way too much sense for Rios

Dayan, Avisail, De Aza, Beckham, Gillaspie, Phegley - That's not a bad young core to start building around. Get one or two of Semien, Wilkins, Sanchez, Trayce Thompson, Brandon Jacobs and you're doing pretty good. Hopefully Dayan and Avisail really figure it out, because they both have some insane upside as 3-4-5 bats

Roster Move?
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:33 AM) I haven't seen anything yet either. They sent down an OF when they called up Rienzo, so my guess is that they bring an OF back up to replace Peavy. Danks would be my guess. EDIT: Oh yeah, just saw the post above. If Wise is ready to come off the DL, then he's the one who will get that spot. I would not bank on Wise returning

Roster Move?
QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:30 AM) Who replaces Peavy? Or have I missed something? We are indeed a man down right now. I would think a position player comes up to replace Tekotte

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:17 AM) People were comparing him to MCab the moment he came up. The odds of him ever reaching that level are obviously quite low, but I think I heard that comparison in his first game. Well, that had much more to do with his physical appearance than anything. He's a dead ringer from 20 feet away. Avisail has so little experience above A+, I have to think it wouldn't be the worst thing if we kept him in AAA for a while.

I have to think our plan for the next offseason is to buy low on some vets that don't go to the top buyers on the market.

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
While Tim Kurkjian probably doesn't actually know anything, he says he thinks Rios does not get moved due to his contract and the perception around the league that he is not a winner. He says he thinks the White Sox will do "something" though

We are currently at about $74 million payroll for next year. If Rios and/or Alexei/other vets go, that gets substantially lower. I've never known JR to sit on a low payroll just for s***s and giggles. I have to think we'll be spending some money, though I don't anticipate we'll be trying to max out the payroll.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:38 AM) Yep, I can't see them giving up players on their major league roster right now given their offensive struggles. I've gotta say, getting Adams could sure make this rebuild business a lot smoother....
