  2. Offseason trades, hurrah!
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:55 PM) I don't know if Vicedo's bat profiles enough at this point to stick in one of those positions. The good news is he has improved significantly year over year against right handed pitching and I tend to think his performance against lefties is a little fluky. Ultimately we've seen him take quite a few steps forward and that is a positive sign. We know the tools are there and this is just his 2nd full year. It would seem to be that he is potentially in line for a big step forward in 2014. I need him to hit better to move him off LF. He loses so much value if he moves out of the OF right now, with the questions about his bat. I too am very encouraged by the adjustments he seems to be making.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:53 PM) If Konerko retires, who would be next in line to be captain of the Sox? Personality-wise, Gordo is the clear leader in the clubhouse
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) There will be an open spot in LF most likely after this year with Viciedo going to DH or 1B God I hope not
  6. FWIW, I think all these vets will be much easier to move in the offseason. Teams are much happier to take on salary in the offseason
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) I don't think it would be dumb at all. If some team wants to take on his 12.5 mil, the Sox can lose games with or without him. Keep him, be a better team, and if you don't become a better team, you'll eventually get players out of trading him. Hold on to these guys until you can get the young players you seek out of them
  8. Mark Gonzales ‏@MDGonzales 59s Rios returns from early BP, sounds like only ? Is whether he's in Sox's lineup
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:45 PM) Pretty obvious teams aren't giving up anything for Rios. Hopefully a team will just claim him in August and they can get the payroll cleared. But even then, I'll believe it when I see it. It would be very, very dumb for us to just let him go to save money. He's a good player that will have value at the next deadline if we're not doing well next year
  10. I'm imagining Rios sitting there feeling very uncomfortable as all the beat writers stare at him
  11. The truth is that teams have no issues taking on contracts in the offseason when they have a clean slate, but they never like to take on money in mid-season deals
  12. Mark Gonzales ‏@MDGonzales 1m Rios in clubhouse, no lineup posted
  13. Approach at the plate is supposedly the main issue with Avisail. I think this is one of the things Manto is best at teaching.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:33 PM) We can shed his money by doing a waiver wire trade or just putting him on waivers if it's that important. Which it is not
  15. Doug Padilla ‏@ESPNChiSox 2m White Sox pitchers gathering in the OF to work out. The entire gang appears to be there.
  16. The truth is that Peavy would be making much more if he was a free agent right now
  17. We have yet to post a lineup http://www.baseballpress.com/lineup.php
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:22 PM) We will find out in 40 minutes but always felt that was the plan. It is nice that we are swimming in money and our rotation will cost less than 20 million next year. I'm guessing we add a bunch of midlevel free agents. Sounds like 2005 Good, young rotation with an underperforming offense
  19. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:19 PM) They pay him to play for another team so they can get good prospects so they can rebuild. Right now they're just dumping salary and will be fielding an even worse team next year. You're assuming we could get good prospects for Rios -- so far, the evidence suggests that we could not.
  20. As much as I'd like to see Avisail up here, I'm not giving up Rios for nothing. Avisail could use some refinement as it is. He's hardly played a season's worth of games above A-ball
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:15 PM) What does that term mean, btw? Just filler? Yeah typically these are players that aren't expected be major leaguers, and if so don't have ceilings much higher than bench players
  22. What we don't know is what exactly eating money gets us. If we eat money just to get a s***ty return, then no, I wouldn't eat any money
  23. JIM BOWDEN ‏@JimBowdenESPNxm 15s Angels had no interest in a Trumbo deal with Pittsburgh...NO INTEREST lol NO INTEREST
  24. I can sense it...people are going to start believing they know what all the offers were
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:03 PM) Sounds like they're trying to talk Cruz into appealing Even if he stays, their offense hasn't been good enough
