Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 07:24 PM) Found this at SouthSideSox . No idea if it's been posted yet. 1. RHP Nestor Molina — This is the only place you’ll see Molina as Toronto’s No. 1 prospect. Sorry, folks, but I’m believing my own eyes and ignoring the grossly inaccurate scouting reports. The 22-year-old was Verlander-like in Double-A, dominating hitters to the tune of a 13.5 strikeouts/9 innings. Awesome stuff. Fastball (92-94-mph), devastating split, changeup. Pitching coach Pete Walker told me his stuff is “as good as I’ve seen at this level.” Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus once tweeted, “Not a ton of stuff, a finesse type without much upside.” Um, no. Where are you seeing this?

Aaron Rowand Signs With Marlins
I don't see the harm with him coming to Spring Training. If he looks good, he can be the fifth outfielder - might be able to be a good influence for the young guys. If Q is still here, there's no place for A-Row for sure, though. Lillibomb > A-Row anyday.

Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
If rebuilding, no need for a closer. If wishing to contend, closer is a position that is *relatively* easy to find from the scrap heap - especially when there are several heirs in the pen/in the system.

Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) @Ken_Rosenthal You usually don't waste pitchers with control like that in the bullpen. Hmm. Sounds like worst case, he could be Edwin Jackson.

Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:43 PM) His numbers remind me of De Los Santos from A ball. And we see what happened to him...traded away and now where? A player with limited AA innings just isn't that 'sure of a thing'. Santos should have brought more than this. DLS blew out his elbow - hard to say what could have been.

Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
Call me crazy, but it really isn't a leap of faith to say this team could contend. If you give that Dunn returns to normal, it's nowhere close to a leap. If we do lose all of Buehrle, Floyd, Danks - pitching would take a leap to believe in though.

Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
I'd say KW thinks he just got a future all-star caliber pitcher - his stuff certainly sounds that good. 148 Ks:18 BBs is unbelievable.

TCQ talks about trade possibilities
I have a dream of a Quentin-De Aza-Viciedo outfield...but I know it won't happen, even if Quentin stays.

Ventura "noogie" won't be shown in Arlington in 2012
Ass kicking or not, it's pretty impressive how quickly and easily Robin was headlocked and taking dome shots.

Is Jeff Manto this dumb
Not going to read all the posts, but...good job Manto. Think of all the times when Dunn/Rios would walk with that man on third and two outs, or something equally useless when we needed a hit.

*Official* Work Out Thread
If you really wanna take your fitness seriously, go to bodybuilding.com's forums. There's a bit of BS to wade through with uninformed posters, but as long as you read the stickies and use the search function before posting a redundant topic it's a great resource. If talking about another website is against the rules here, I'm sorry and I'm ready for my stoning.

Who sucks more?
As much as I wish Burls got that call, I'm too aware that there are other pitchers that were probably a call away from two perfecto's or something of that ilk. Perhaps Mark had the benefit of call(s) in ways that were out of the ordinary in his games. I'll just take what we got

What are you taking this semester?
Humanities 201 - This class is hardest to describe. This is the end of a three semester sequence that is one of two tracks all students at my school must take. The alternative is a Religious Studies sequence that spends the entire first two semesters reading the bible. The third semester has a lot of flexibility, such as moving to Islam, etc. I chose this Humanities path, which we call "The Search for Values in Light of Western History and Religion." I love the course and did well enough that I'm actually on the curriculum advisory council now. The first two semesters covered, off the top of my head -- Gilgamesh, Homer, Plato, Aristotle, Thucydides, Old Testament, New Testament, Augustine, Dante, Aquinas, among others I'm leaving off. The third semester moves to the Renaissance era and I chose the Politics track for the third semester, as it will count as a class for my major. We're reading Machiavelli, Shakespeare, Roussaeu, Nitzsche, Huxley, and others that I don't remember without looking at my syllabus. English 381 - Alfred Hitchcock and Hitchcockians - Study of Hitchcock as an "auteur" and those that emulate/remake his films Theatre 240 - Voice and Diction for Public Speaking - I plan to work in media, so I need to work on my voice. Greek 101 - Need to take a language through 201 level, and I would like to read texts from my Humanities courses in their original text. I'm also Greek by heritage, and would like to travel to Greece and be able to get around. Modern Greek is only moderately different from Ancient Greek, and most differences are merely pronunciation. ...and baseball sucking up my time as always. Working at the local news station on Friday nights, building that resume. And I'm an RA, loving the money and loving the single room.

IF the Sox come back and finish only 1 or 2 games out,
I get the sense that in a given year 15-20 teams' fans feel this way about one or both of their Manager/GM.

LBJ had Kennedy killed, believed Jackie
This is a tough one. One thing for sure is that cheating on a spouse and cheating on a girlfriend/boyfriend are on different levels. Cheating on your girlfriend or boyfriend is certainly very wrong, you're violating a present promise of exclusivity. However, cheating on a spouse is violating a perpetual commitment and to many it is a commitment not just to the spouse, but to God. I am a bit forgiving and as a young person it is fresh in my mind how quickly one's entire perception of the world can change. To me, cheating on my high school girlfriend (by justifying to myself that she had frequently cheated on me) really changed the way I felt about the commitment to a significant other. I never wanted to feel that way again and I took all future relationships more seriously. I think people can change. I also think it is possible to have a momentary lapse. Good people can do bad things.

Dunn to miss next few games
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 07:19 PM) He is an admin you asshole.

Who will finish with more bombs?
You know what would really impress me? If Dunn was truly committed enough to go play in a winter league somewhere to try to find his stroke. Part of me wonders if getting away from the game for a while might be the best thing for him though.

Mysterious company dissolves after giving $1 million to pro-Romne
I think each side here thinks the other side has a more extreme view than the other. Taxpayers/funding are necessary and important as GLI acknowledges. Tax money doesn't mean s*** if somebody doesn't, literally, bite the bullet and actually put their own life on the line. Everyone knows that. All GLI is saying is that risking one's life in a volunteer army is more admirable and remarkable than paying taxes that one only has input on paying indirectly through elections.

Mysterious company dissolves after giving $1 million to pro-Romne
QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 09:34 PM) Navy SEALs killed Osama. Obama did not do that I hear this often. And this is certainly true. It seems unclear what role Obama played other than giving the mission his blessing (and this may have even been through a staffer or something, I don't know). However, if we hold the statement "Obama killed OBL" to that level of elaboration, why don't we do that with other issues, especially non-successes? Economy is bad = Obama ruined the economy? Or is that an unfair statement?

Why is Bruney not in Charlotte?
A lot of people ripping the guy's production when his production was not the issue yesterday.... Bruney isn't the problem. My guess is that he didn't deserve to be thrown out anyway.

Ozzie confirms Rios will be in lineup tomorrow
They're just platooning....3 lefties in a row = 3 starts for the right-handed half of the platoon. I'm not getting stressed out about this yet.

Sox/Danks have talked numbers but "nothing too serious"
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 06:20 PM) Take a look at Edwin Jackson's numbers with the Sox and tell me he was anything but very good. 11-9, 3.66 ERA, 30 starts, 196.2 IP, 207 H, 16 HR, 57 BB, 174 K, ERA+ 114 He did pretty damn good with us, but no one seems to remember. I approve of this post.

Jackson & Teahen to TOR for Frasor & Stewart (RHP)
Also, someone tell me why I should sell the farm for an OF that has 1000 PA, mediocre power, run production, batting average, etc. that also is a below average fielder according to UZR?
