Why should I be excited about Odalis?
AddisonStSox replied to AddisonStSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Good post. Good post. I think this talk of being out of the Clement race set me off. I never thought Randy was going to happen, but when I heard we were out of the Clement race, I lost it. You are right, Kenny has some time to make something happen. I'm just hoping he does, because many of us that have supported him in the past, will look like a bunch of suckers if our starting rotation has the names: Hermanson, Grilli, or Diaz in it. The difference between me and a guy like...um...say... >...is that I have supported Kenny in the past and I still had faith in him going into this off-season. I just never thought he'd let the pitching situation get as desperate as it is now. Wow. Ok, deep breath. I feel much better now. -
I'll tell ya what... If Kenny fails to get his big-name pitcher this off-season, I'm on board with that 100%. Granted the guy has his hands tied, but c'mon, how many more Loaizas are you going to get before you hit a Schoenweis? He hit the jackpot on some of these low-risk, high-reward players and now thats all he wants. Well, it ain't that simple, if it was, anyone could grab someone off the scrap heap and make them a all-star. You are going to have to pay for talent eventually and although he has showed he was willing to do that, more times than not, he's feeding off the dumpster in Toronto or Montreal or the like.

The fifth starter will be Dustin Hermanson. Book it. -
Why should I be excited about Odalis?
AddisonStSox replied to AddisonStSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Its going to come down to... Dustin Hermanson, Shawn Chacon, Jason Grilli and the like. I will never, ever support Kenny Williams again if he fails to bring in a starting pitcher this off-season. That is simply pathetic. You're on the clock Kenny. Spring Training isn't as far off as you'd like to believe and NO, the Sox nation will not be able to stomach trading Carlos Lee for Scott f***ing Podsednik and getting no starting pitcher. This could be the biggest salary dump in years and we all missed it. I want to support you Kenny, but if you don't use that money wisely, I'll be calling for your head. For that, he should be fired. -

Overlooked agent of the decade: Scott Boras. Milwood ain't happening. Who's ready for it... ...you know exactly what I'm talking about... The White Sox introduce Dustin Hermanson as the fifth starter. Brace yourself. Its coming. -
Jesus H Tapdancin' Christ bring me my fifth starter. Screw Polanco and Pierzynski, as of now, Kenny hasn't even locked up a pitcher. Sorry for the venting, but I'm praying for Kenny's sake that he gets that pitcher in before making any other moves. Pierzynski and Polanco are just cherries on top. We need our ice cream first and as of right now, that ice cream is Jason Grilli. :puke or ---->I don't know which to do.

Well, the Sox look to disappoint once again. If Kenny does not answer the team's most pressing need this off-season, I will never forgive him for it. We needed a pitcher more than anything this off-season and he has yet to show up. In fact, all the guys we have targeted have taken off in other directions. So, with Johnson to the Yanks (trade still pending), Hudson to the Braves, and Clement entertaining higher offers from the Angels and the Red Sox, why the hell should I be excited about Odalis Perez? Is this really the guy to answer our off-season pitching problem? Has Kenny failed miserably? And for those of you that believe Kenny is going to bring in AJ and this guy, why? What has Kenny done in the past to lead us to believe he will bring in this many guys in one off-season. I think I have to agree with Moronotti on this one. If Kenny doesn't use that Carlos money to address our pitching issue, this was nothing more than a salary dump. We wuz robbed.
-
If this trade is completed... Good news: The Sox haven't grossly overpayed for Johnson Bad news: The Sox miss out on the biggest player to have ever ok'ed a trip to the South side. The Sox still don't have an answer to the f***ING rotation problem. The Sox will sketch Jason Grilli in as a number five in April.
-
How many players would Kenny have brought in this off-season he is signs AJ, and Perez? I just don't see it happening. This is bad news. We will end up with the same rotation as in 2004, making this off-season an entire failure. Way to come crashing back down to earth Kenny.

Ding Ding Ding. The White Sox welcome Randy Johnson! You're telling me you guys wouldn't smile uncontrollably at Soxfest when Kenny introduces the Big Unit. C'mon. PR Explosion. Risk a bit of the future to win now. This kind of deal won't come around again for ages. He's one of the best ever.

Test-a-roo

Is this Garland, Marte, Sweeney and a prospect deal for real? Has it been verified, and if so, has it already been taken off the table? That has Kenny written all over it.

I heard she's great out of the pen. Hoyyyyyyy-ooooooooooooooo

Wow. Well, now I am going to invest a mild cautious optimism in this one. Ask and you shall receive. AJ>>>>>>>>Burke+Davis+Burke's Mom

I hate to be this guy... but could someone get me up to speed on this Johnson/Clement talk... I've been in finals studying hell. But, its all DONE!
-
You can advocate his signing all you want, but if Kenny hasn't shown any interest in this guy its all moot; thats where I'm coming from. Don't EXPECT to sign this guy. Hell, don't even expect to be in the hunt unless Kenny says he's looking. This is getting crazy. These expectations are way too high.
-
Ok, this is absolutely killing me. Where have all of you come up with the Pierzynski talk? All of a sudden, if Kenny doesn't net Pierzynski this off-season, its a failure. What gives? He has had run-ins with this team in the past, he was hated in the clubhouse and I have yet to find any source indicating that Kenny has shown ANY interest in this guy. Please, Please tell me where you are all getting this from. Is this just wishful thinking or what? I have seen many posters say Perez and Pierzynski would be a better off-season than Clement. What!? First off, do we have that kind of money? Second, has Kenny shown even an ounce of interest. So frustrating. Please fill me in.
-
We don't have the resources to land our fifth starter via trade. Its as simple as that. This last guy has got to come via free agency or we are in big trouble. Unless either Hudson or Johnson is brought it, that last starter can not be traded for. We have already sold the farm and are in danger of doing so again. If not Hudson or Johnson, free agency. If not Clement, Perez.
-
Ok, enough with this A.J. kick. Where has Kenny shown any interest in this guy? I'll leave everyone alone about it when I see a source, but Steff and others in the Sox organization have said Davis will be the starting C in 2005. I just really want to see some sort of source that indicates Kenny has targeted AJ. People have made it seem that this off-season will be a failure if he isn't brought in, and although I agree catcher is a position of weakness for the Sox, we have other pressing needs that Kenny has/will adress. I think there is a snowball's chance in hell of AJ being on this team.
-
I don't know about you fellas...but I have no problem grossly overpaying Matt Clement. Off-season aquisitions -Matt Clement -Jermaine Dye -Scott Podsednik -Louis Vizcaino -Dustin Hermanson ...and he saw that it was good. That would be a colossal off-season by Sox standards. PS: I propose a new and offical nickname for Mr. Podsednik Scoot (get it? cause he steals a lot of bases, and its a play on his first name, and...um, well, thats about it )
-
Great news. I'm very excited. This is day five of my advocating the overpaying of Matt Clement stance! I'm in it for the long haul. Git er' done Kenny.
-
Great signing. Juan is officially the Shortstop of the future.
-
I had no idea that was our offer. Wow. That is great news. At the beginning of the off-season I anticipated Clement signing with the Halos, but if we give the same offer, I'd have to think we would be up there on his list. Aw Kenny, c'mon on this one. I very rarely get excited over a free agent, but for some reason I want this guy on the Southside in a major way.

The Angels have offered $9M for 3 years. I think Clement could be a member of the White Sox for the same exact offer, or if JR was willing to do a four year deal, $8M for 4 years. His wife wants to stay in Chicago, he has said he was "flattered" that the Sox were showing so much interest in him, and I really, honestly think we have just as good a shot at him as anybody. I would love a press confrence announcement Thursday afternoon. I would go silly. As I have said so many times before, this is day four of my advocating for the overpaying of Matt Clement stance. I'm spear-heading this one.
