Official 2008-2009 NFL Thread

Wow at no one watching today. Two very good games. SD looks like they'll be going to OT with Indianapolis, the weak NFC West champion, Arizona Cardinals prevailed over the Atlanta Falcons. Anyway, dumb playcalling by Rivers/Turner as they spiked the ball with a minute left at the opponent 30 on 1st down trailing by 3 and no timeouts. They tied the game, but on 3rd down, they called a run and were within a yard of first down. The previous play, Rivers threw the ball away. I notice he throws the ball away too much if there are no receivers open instead of running for first downs when he has the chance to. Also, his throwing motion is too over the top, he can't float the ball over anyone's heads and usually his passes are short. -

I didn't know college basketball was more important than the NFL playoffs. Wow at no one posting today. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 01:48 PM) Why Bridgeport though? Its a nice enough area and has some extremely overpriced properties and some undervalued properties, but why is she looking at that area in particular? It's close to all highways she would need to get a hold of, not far off from downtown at all, and she likes the schools in the area.

That's a good thing for Bears fans. It can't get worse than Babich. I know alot of people say that, but in his case, it's true. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 04:16 PM) yeah. I'm probably being nice to Roethlisberger too, because he was pretty terrible this year. In regards to QB rating...Manning 15th (86.4), Delhomme 18th (84.7), Roethlisberger 24th (80.1). I don't know why you didn't question Chad Pennington, seeing as how he had the 2nd best QB rating in the game, but my reasoning behind him is merely that I think he is. He was fantastic this year, but overall has been a mediocre QB. I will also say that Eli Manning might be the most overrated player in the entire NFL. People consider him an elite QB when quite frankly he is anything but an elite QB. Mediocre completion percentage, yards thrown, touchdowns thrown, and QB rating...the only thing he was good at, and pretty much fits hand in hand with a mediocre, game managing QB, is that he didn't turn the ball over much (10 INTs, 2 lost fumbles). Eli Manning is not a franchise QB. Well, I think the thing with Chad is he was a great QB until he blew out his arm. Combine that with the suckiness of those Jets teams and you get a bad Chad Pennington. As for Eli, I think he's a franchise QB in the making, but he hasn't lived up to the hype and I don't think he ever will. Most guys don't. Hell, Brandon Clausen was supposed to dominate college and he's sucked IMO.

I was at the Magic Bulls game and that was almost as bad as the Magic Bulls game in 99 that I went to when Dickey Simpkins was our CDW Player of the Month and we lost by like 50 in that game. Last game was a reason why I stated Rose isn't at a level the Magic could use yet. He should've dominated Jameer and he stunk up the joint along with everyone else. Even Joakim was terrible, he was just less terrible than the others. It looked like VDN was trying implement some new plays but many of our players were out of position to the point where VDN was pointing out spots during the play where certain players needed to be. Biggest culprits were Noah, Tyrus, Noc and Thabo. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) So far, they repeat the same damn shows over and over. Not impressed. Pretty much. I hope it doesn't turn out like NBATV. I knew it would take a bit to get off the ground, but in reality, it's not that great of a channel at all. There's no exclusive shows or anything that's worth watching over again. I even think NFLTV is pretty boring when there is not a live game on.

For you Dishnetworkers, I suggest visiting channelsurfing.net I believe it is. Shows every channel with very nice quality. I was watching it last night.

QUOTE (Molto @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 09:44 AM) Yeah. I think the main public schools would be Healy and Mark Sheridan, which are literally two blocks from each other (Wallace St, 28th-30th). Other that that it's mostly catholic schools. If she works downtown or takes public transportation a lot, somewhere close to the Red Line/the Cell (30th-34th & Wells, Princesten, Shields, even Normal) or Orange Line would work too, although I would say the area by the Red Line is better than the Orange Line. I believe one of the apartments she is looking at is two blocks north of the one on 28th and Wallace.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 01:04 AM) I'm from the next neighborhood over. I didn't realize there were different parts of each neighborhood. It's plenty safe...it's not the ghetto. Well we just wanted to know because she has a child and we really don't know too much based off our own experiences about Bridgeport.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 1, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) Franchising a QB right now will cost like $14 million in cap space next year, all guaranteed $. No way the Pats do that. There was an article somewhere(can't remember where) basically stating the Pats were considering it because of Brady and they are also thinking about doing it and then trading him. I don't know if that would be legal or not as I'm not familiar with the NFL's CBA.
-
Long story short, my girlfriend plans on moving and Bridgeport is one of the areas she's thinking about. I've heard mixed things about Bridgeport, however in terms of how safe it is and such. She does have a child so that would be a huge concern. I wanted to call on you fellow Chicagoans and former ones to give me a bit of info.

Dark Batman = Better Batman. I actually liked the voice Batman had. Made him sound BA. BTW, Dent/Two-Face is dead. It's like those people who even though that Rachel wasn't dead, gimme a break!

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 11:31 PM) Shows signs? Maybe great in the future? lol. He's been the top rookie and second best PG in the entire conference (my bad. He's no Mayo. What an impact he's had for the Grizzlies). And of course he's not Chris Paul yet. Chris Paul of today wasn't Chris Paul of two years ago. But Rose is having every bit as good a rookie year as Paul did. He's not consistent enough yet. Geez. I didn't say he stinks or won't be at that level, but he's not there yet. His defense is atrocious, and his offense isn't consistent enough. He could drive on every play, but he settles for his weak jumper way too much. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 07:22 PM) No, he was their DC after Crennel. Wow, I thought he was the OC and the other guy was their defensive coordinator. Shows you how much I follow the Patriots coaching changes. In that case, I'd take Mangini over Crennel. Who is the Patriots OC then? -

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 07:18 PM) I don't think Mangini has ever been an offensive coach in the NFL, so why would we want him to be our OC? Or is that a typo and you meant DC? With the Patriots after Weiss. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 06:51 PM) Since they missed the playoffs it'll only be a 3rd round pick I think. Given the issues they had with Pennington over the years, he'd probably constantly have been looking over his shoulder in NY. With a new stadium, etc., it was still the right move for them to make. 3rd round pick is still pretty valuable. Who do they go after that is better than Mangini though? BTW, I think he would make a great OC with the Bears. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 05:35 PM) Why fire Mangini? It's ownership's fault that they went with Favre over Pennington, then gave Penn to a division rival. Pretty much. The biggest problem though IMHO, is they didn't have enough weapons and on top of that, they lost a high pick because of that trade. -

They really should've made this game at Soldier Field. Cooler conditions and way better sightlines for such an event. Everyone, even the people in the "close" seats will have a terrible view. -
Well, some people are still mad at the season, but truthfully the Bears overcame their terrible defensive coordinator, an average offensive coordinator, and their declining defensive players to a respectable 9-7 season. Could this team have done better? Yes. But look at the preseason predictions and Bears' fans themselves didn't predict this good of a season. You simply have to take that into account. Now once in awhile, you have a cinderella story, but fact is, the Bears didn't have the parts for a cinderella type season. They don't have the players or coordinators to take them places and overcome their deficiencies. Lovie really isn't the problem. He showed more fire than the Bears last game if that counts for anything, especially when he tried to challenge the spot in the 4th quarter. Anyways, remember, Bill Cowhers hoo-rah wears out on players. Ask Pittsburgh fans and they wanted him out years before they won the SuperBowl and some still didn't care that he left right after the SuperBowl. That includes players as well. The problem is, the Bears have two playmaking returners, a nice RB and nothing else on offense. Orton really is not the answer on offense. He simply stares down his receiver way too much, they don't have a #1 or #2 CB on that team, their best secondary player cannot get through a full season, their "franchise" player has fallen off, no one buys into their defensive coach, and their d-line looked like they've lost interest.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 28, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) It was interesting, as Vasher was ripping on Orton for doing this too much on Comcast yesterday. You usually don't hear criticism like that from your teammate. It's true and it's really evident the past two quarters. He just looks at the receiver and doesn't bother turning his head whatsoever. He doesn't even even slightly tilt his head. You know who he's going to all the time. -

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 28, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) Olson had that ball and it should've been a TD. One thing I noticed is that Orton eyes his receiver too much. Damn just as I said it, so does the announcer. -
