Contreras to start opening day
I'm glad it's Contreras.

Buehrle knows this is it
QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Jan 28, 2007 -> 08:09 PM) Me too, but if they don't want to make Buehrle happy, they definitely won't want a 7 year deal for Johan. I doubt they'd get him too, but if it ever happened, I could see it happening. Johan would be a dream acquistion for Kenny. He'd probably give his right testicle to get him.

PS3
I have Resistance, NFS: Carbon, Call of Duty 3, Madden 07, and NBA2K7. Resistance has held me over for awhile. I've beaten NFS Carbon already and that was pretty cool as well. Madden and NBA2K7 and they're both pretty good if you have someone to play against. Bad thing about Madden is there is no roster update online for some reason. MLB2K7 and Rainbow Six will be coming out soon which will be great as well.

Bill Parcells Retires
I'm not enamored with Phillips at all either unless he hires Mike Martz as his OC which won't happen. Phillips will however be the coach. For the record, I do think Lovie is a top 7 coach and should get 5 million a year at least. If he wins in 2 weeks, he would have accomplished everything he set after when he first was hired. And I do think that Lovie is the important part to that defense. Rivera gets too much credit.

Pods Surgery Details...
QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 10:11 PM) He doesn't hustle, that's the problem many of us have with him. on defense it doesn't seem like it, but I do that's because of his groin. I noticed before his groin injury in 2005, even though he got bad reads, he hustled hard towards the ball and hustled when on the bases. Now he runs like he has something stuck up his arse, especially defensively.

Pods Surgery Details...
Poor guy does get ripped alot. I hate the Erstad signing though. I rather see Sweeney given a chance. Instead we'll see Erstad and Mackowiak getting more PT than Thome and Konerko.

PS3
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 02:20 AM) yeah I heard that metal gear solid rumor of going to 360, but i havent been able to find any real solid information about them going to 360. In the end im fairly positive it will be a ps3 only game and looking at the like 10 minute trailer I have of it... will be amazing. I agree. Like someone said earlier, MGS4 is filling up the entire Blu-ray disc which means they would have to cut significant parts or make the graphics look really really cheap to port it over to 360.

Bill Parcells Retires
QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Jan 22, 2007 -> 11:55 PM) The guy you are probably trying to think of is Wade Phillips. I don't think he is the one for the job. Rest assured Bears fans Lovie Smith isn't on the list that I saw on a San Antonio TV station as possible replacements for Parcells. They had Norv Turner on top of the list, he was a good offensive coordinator but never thought much of him as a head coach. It would be very doubtful if Lovie Smith went to the Cowboys, not going to happen. Nope, Wade is the frontrunner. They want someone to run the 3-4 since they built that team for that the past couple of years. I'm pretty sure Wade will get the job though.

PS3
QUOTE(pierard @ Jan 22, 2007 -> 07:52 PM) I own a PS3 and a 360 so I honestly do not have any long term preference over either, but saying that Halo 3 and Gears of War are the only 360 exclusives worth anything is crazy. Here is a list of games exclusive to the 360 that look/are pretty damn good (note some will be out on PC -- but my PC sucks): Alan Wake Fable 2 Mass Effect Halo Wars Lost Odyssey (From Final Fantasy composer and producer) Blue Dragon (from Chrono Trigger team) Dead Rising G.R.A.W Kane and Lynch Crackdown Shadowrun Too Human Splinter Cell 5 Halo 3 Gears of War Project Gotham 4 Forza Motorsport 2 Conan: Hyborian Adventures Viva Pinata (seriously, it's fun) Banjo 3 Circle of Doom Sony has lots of great games coming out also, they just need to come out soon because I'm getting bored of playing the same game over and over. I'd say Halo and Gears are still the only ones worth anything. I have both systems, bought them a day apart from each other. I haven't heard anything about the Xbox 360 getting a DVR, but I know the PS3 is supposedly getting that capability. http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3155888 BTW, HDMI cables only costs like 20 bucks at the most on monoprice.com Also, MLB2k7 sounds awesome for the PS3 and looks awesome. The old MVP Baseball developer is the lead developer on this one. http://ps3.ign.com/articles/757/757057p1.html If you dont feel like waiting for the PS3 to release the Tivo like features on its own, http://www.ps3-hacks.com/ is a place which will show you how to do it on your own. Also you could already copy games and Blu Ray movies to the HD of the PS3.

Bill Parcells Retires
Let's not jump ahead of ourselves. The reason why the Cowboys gave Parcells all the time in the world is because their backup plan, first choice for coach, was someone no one was looking at. It wasn't Lovie Smith. Now will Jerry Jones inquire about Lovie? Probably. He is a coach with deep Texas roots whose been successful so far as a head coach. The guy I heard a couple of weeks ago, the Cowboys would be looking at is Wade Phillips. Not Lovie. All this Lovie stuff is speculation by others. Other guys the Cowboys supposedly will look into are Jeff Fisher, Bob Stoops and Norv Turner. Pete Carroll might get a call, but I doubt it. Wade Phillips is the early frontrunner though.

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jan 15, 2007 -> 12:27 AM) Im just f'in around too, you know i like to mess with the illini fans....Rebuilding is not all that bad. Except when you aren't getting the players you need in return. They were even mentioning it on ESPN(may have been Doug Gotleib) how the Illini are no longer the elite program they've been for the past 6 years or so. They've gone backwards big time with no sunshine in sight.

Twins expect Santana gone by 2008, per paper
I'd give 24 mil a year to Santana. He's just that studly. I do think however, that the Sox won't sign him. Kenny will inquire and hell, the Sox might be one of the last three teams bidding on him, but then they'll get outbid by a ton.

Sox like Dye, but at what cost?..... Goodbye Buerhle ?
I agree with Inge. Watching him last year made me think the Tigers stole Joe Crede. The way they move defensively is even the same.
-
Soxtalk Community Prediction: Joe Crede
.293 BA 31 HR's 98 RBI's(simply because he's not in a position to knock in tons of runs) .334 OBP GG calibur defense

Cancelled Gems
Bonds on Bonds and Reunion. Reunion should've at least went on DVD so we could've seen who the killer was. I bet it was his daughter.

Sox like Dye, but at what cost?..... Goodbye Buerhle ?
QUOTE(gosox41 @ Jan 13, 2007 -> 09:49 AM) This mentality is what caused the Sox to be disappointments in 2000-2005. For example, for getting about contracts and years before FA, I would rather have Johan Santana then JD. If Minnesota offered you that trade would you take it or reject? Now back to reality and the Buehrle and Dye scenario. I would rather keep Dye over Buehrle, buit not because Dye plays every day. I'd do it because Buehrle is not a dominant pitcher and Dye is an MVP caliber player. Not to be too nit picky on this whole topic of paying a guy who plays everyday or paying for a guy who's out there every 5th day. But last weeks Trib had some idiot Cub fan use the same logic to justify paying Soriano and not using it to pay for a pitcher. Bob Johan is more of an exception rather than the rule. The guy might be the greatest pitcher ever before it's all said and done.

Soxtalk Community Prediction: Juan Uribe
He'll have the same year Royce Clayton had his last year here with a bit more HR's.

Sox like Dye, but at what cost?..... Goodbye Buerhle ?
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 09:29 PM) Jermaine Dye is not worth that much money if the White Sox are spending $60 million a year on their starting 5 pitchers and have a $100 million salary. Jermaine Dye may very well be worth that much if the White Sox are spending $25-30 million a year on their starting pitching and would without Dye have a $85 million salary if they resign Crede. It's a matter of filling holes. If you have a big hole that an expensive player could fill, and you have salary freed up somewhere else, then that expensive player becomes more affordable. The White Sox could not afford dye in 08 with a Garcia, Buehrle, Contereas, Garland, Vazquez rotation. The White Sox may very well be able to afford Dye in 08 with a Danks, Contreras, Garland, Vazquez, Floyd/Haeger/Broadway rotation (especially if one of Garland and Vazquez is moved to clear more rookie room before they hit FA). If some of guys like Danks, Gio, Broadway, Haeger, Floyd, Phillips, and McCullough start to pan out, along with the ungodly cheap bullpen, the White Sox will be able to afford to spend money on 30-35 home run bats if they so choose. I think the White Sox believe they can keep 2 out of the 3 that is Crede, Buehrle, and Dye. Dye will be the most affordable of the three without a doubt. They have seen what type of money pitching has demanded the past couple of years and they see Buehrle is more than likely not going to be affordable. The way they probably see it is, 15 mil a year at least for Buehrle or Crede, which would you rather have? An everyday position player than fields his position more than adequately, or a good pitcher who pitches every 5 days? I'll go with the position player unless the pitcher was named Johan Santana. They might not resign Crede, but if I were a betting man, I'd bet that at least one of those three will be reupped, with great potential for two of them to be resigned. If nothing else, the White Sox are setting themselves up for a great run at future FA pitcher, Johan Santana if they wanted to go after him.

Beckham to the MLS
This is a good move for MLS, but I think to raise the overall level, we have to sign a few up and coming players, and probably overpay for them. It'll take a hit in the pockets in the short run, but if you do it and the plan works, MLS would be a huge attraction.

Randy Johnson trade
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2007 -> 10:58 AM) I think the White Sox got more talent in return for Garcia than the Yankees did for Johnson. That said, to me, Johnson has significantly less value to start with than Garcia did. He's more than 10 years older, has 100% less cartiledge in his knees, is coming off major back surgery, actually had a worse season than Garcia last year, and did not show signs of improving like Freddy did at the end of last year. And on top of that, Garcia is signed to an affordable deal, while Johnson's is ridiculous for a guy who put up a 5.00 ERA last year. If I were the D-Backs, I wouldn't have made that deal talent wise just because of all of the negatives along with Johnson and his status, or at least I would have held out a little for more money, but if it helps them put more fans in their stadium it may balance out for them. I think it's been shown that RJ had a worse ERA, but had better stats overall than FG. Also Freddy lost velocity big time on his fastball. RJ has lost some velocity, but not as quick or as much as FG.

Since It's Slow
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 08:03 PM) It'll never happen, this is basically the only thing I'm certain of as a Sox fan anymore. Care to explain. Not that I'm trying to sound like a smartass, I'm just bored so I got the time to read a well thought out post.
