  1. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) Ok my thoughts; 1) I give Griffey until the end of the month before he gets injured again. 2) PK's deal runs out at the end of this season. Even if we don't resign him, that's $8 million that can be spent in the off-season. Payroll will get increased by another $5 to $7 mill for next season, so that's $15 mill to spend right there. 3) We want to spend our money on players who are coming into their prime and can contribute for a number of seasons. Yes Griffey is hitting the ball well this MONTH, but you don't seriously believe that's going to happen over a 4 year period do you? 4) Willy Mo Pena and Austin Kearns are better trade ideas than Ken Griffey Jr. 5) Why would Cincinatti trade for PK when they already have Sean Casey at 1st? 6) How good is Jermaine Dye going to defence at 1st? 1)I don't see him getting a major injury again. He worked double time this off season so he could strengthen his legs to the fullest. If he does get injured again, it'll be for no more than 2 or 3 games. I don't forsee the days of him getting injured for the whole season again 2)Exactly why we could afford Griffey. There's no 1B out there who is as good as PK and that's not a good thing. That's why I proposed moving Dye to 1B(has feet quick enough for a 1B but no longer for a good defensive OF anymore and he's long so his range is naturally bigger). I don't even think there's anyone at 3B that's good enough to spend that money on. 3)Griffey hit good last month too, he had a poor April which is why his average isn't higher(at least in the .280's). He won't be hitting .320 anymore, but he might still be able to hit .300 or a more realistic .290 4)Austin Kearns is hitting a horrible .233 over the past 30 days and .225 with 6 HR and 25 RBI's. Now I'm a fan of Crede, but not many other people are. Those are Crede numbers in the OF. I don't see him being any good. I agree, Pena would be nicer to have, but chances are he isn't going to be traded for that same reason. Yes Griffey is 35 and will be done in 4 years which makes it that much easier to ease into Brian Anderson and Ryan Sweeney and Chris Young whenever they come up. I think he would be an excellent influence on them and could help out Brian Anderson in particular alot. 5)To get rid of Griffey's contract. Now they would be paying for a large amount(they were ready to pay for a large amount of it when they were trading him to SD) and the payroll for us will be rising next year I suspect unless we flat out fall flat on our face for the rest of the year. 6)I think he could play a decent 1B(of course work him into that spot and have him practice there, unlike they did with Timo when they just told him, he's starting there for the night). He has the tools to do so and if he could play a lick of SS, he could play 1B. Again, Long arms = nice range and he has a strong arm to turn that double play or get that ball to homeplate.
  2. QUOTE(chisoxfan79 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) Lets just put this one behind and go win the first two and lose the third in Colorado. HELL YES!!!!
  3. Today would've been a nice day to have Wagner. Hermy would be better suited as an awesome setup man IMO. Anyway, again, it was just the Indians being better than us today.
  4. I'll take this 2 of 3. I can't really blame anyone. Indians just found ways to make plays and we didn't. They were the better team today. I could deal with that. Let's beat the Rockies now.
  5. Okay, I realistically don't see anymore heroics in this game. And Viz is coming in. Game will be busted up wide open.
  6. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) i hate these kind of games. Who would've thought it would've gone this long in a Buehrle game??
  7. Top of the 12th coming up. That just means we're closer to watching Shingo or Viz.
  8. Tried to rip the wrong pitch. 2-2.
  9. Frank takes the cookie. 2-1
  10. I was thinking Viz or Shingo because of Ozzie's wanting to get them to get their confidence back in tight situations and because Hermy has pitched alot this week.
  11. Inning over. And to the 11th we go. This means that Viz or Shingo's pitching. Oh boy.
  12. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) Better question, why in God's name would the Sox want Griffey? Better than Kong, don't you think?
  13. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) why in gods name would the reds take konerko? So many OFers, that's why. If that wasn't a problem, would you do it?
  14. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 04:29 PM) No one is going to take Konerko. Who would? I love the guy, but let's face it, he's not lighting the world up in a contract year. If not now, when? I really think the Sox have to put up with him until the end of this year. He'll have a good day here and there, but I think that is the max the Sox are going to get out of him. Well teams were willing to take Delgado last year with his crappy contract year(Sox at least did).
  15. QUOTE(kman @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) he is also batting .220 this season too slow, if we could get a 1b with a great contact bat with decent power i'd be all opver the trade. I still propose trading him for Griffey and moving Dye to 1B and when Griffey gets his rest, put Everett in there. And you probably could play righty-lefty more with Gload and Dye at first. Pods steals 3rd.
  16. QUOTE(kman @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) screw pauly, lets trade him What are you talking about? He's our RBI leader. You can't replace a leader like him. BTW, I agree with him. He's too 1-dimensional IMO. And I've only seen him get 1 hit when people do that stupid Paulie chant.
  17. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 04:18 PM) I don't know whoever calls the pitches for Marte -- sometimes it looks like Marte just throws whatever he feels like throwing -- but whoever called for a high fastball that isn't above Hafner's head in that situation deserves to be slapped. Yeah, I'll blame this on Widger as well. You can't call for a fastball against the guy. He equally gets it. Damaso just missed his spot too. I'd say it's both guys fault(Damaso for not hitting his spot and not waving off Widger and Widger calling for a FB). BTW, REALLY NICE HR FOR FRANK. They should be chanting Big Hurt, not Paulie!
  18. Error by Rowand. It looked like he was hopping around for nothing.
  19. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 01:49 AM) You got $50 million to give JR for 100 days of service a year from Mr. Griffey Jr.? I could rob a bank. Anyway, if it was Pk for Griffey wouldn't you do it(don't think about the money right now)? I certainly would. Griffey's stats aren't unimpressive. They're pretty decent and he'd automatically become one of the better hitters on our club. He's batting .265 with 8 HR's and 36RBI's. He has been batting .283 the past 30 days. Pk is batting .230 with 14 HR's and 38RBI's. He's batting .275 the past 30 days. I would do it if you could move Dye to first. I already know Jabroni's and a couple of other's thoughts, but I want to hear yours. So Jabroni, no response please.
  20. Maybe the fact that they are playing in front of fans is giving off energy.
  21. Why shouldn't we be playing Colorado? I don't see why so many people are opposed to playing interleague. Especially with all of the AL Central(minus the Twins) being crappy you at least get to see some better baseball. It's no worse than regular play honestly. I can't honestly see the difference or the bad part of interleague play.
  22. Yeah, but if either are dealt, I have a feeling it wouldn't be for a Casey Kotchman because he wouldn't be able to help us much this year unless we bench PK which this team won't. It'll just give us another Everett/Frank situation at 1B instead of DH. If KW makes a move, it'll be to make this starting lineup complete for this year for a strong postseason run. I think the Sox will only trade Frank over Everett if they are getting something significantly better than they will get for Everett at the positions they're looking for. Say Everett would net a Vinny Castilla and Thomas would net an Eric Chavez(hypothetically speaking), KW will go with the name player and get Eric Chavez, but if the package they would get for Frank is just slightly better than they would get for Everett, we'll end up trading Everett.
  23. Let's trade for Ken Griffey Jr. Put Dye at first, get rid of Konerko and we have a set OF and 1B. Dye has actually been looking like the Dye we thought we were getting except with that knee, he can't get to that many balls. Also, when KGJ goes down, you have Everett there to play for him so it all fits well.
  24. Wow, this was just a horrible article. I'm losing the respect I've slowly gained for Rick Morrisey.
