In that case, we'll blame it on WSI. Since no one comes on this board anyway(sarcasm)

Yeah, someone should take this off. Can you imagine an investigation on Soxtalk???? I wouldn't want to risk it.

I don't want to trade him if you aren't making a decent sized upgrade. Of course you're always looking to trade for better players. I'm happy with Uribe though.

Jon Garland
QUOTE(qwerty @ May 2, 2005 -> 04:59 PM) It was too quick to make that choice. He was awesome last year but he should have had to prove it again this year. It is not a guarantee he would have made more in arbitation. Yeah, I wasn't in favor of giving him an extension, but it's not like they gave him a huge untradeable contract. I'm personally with you on him, but if you could resign a 25 year old pitcher who seems like he's putting it together for 6 mil a year when Kris Benson is getting way more than that, you resign him because even if he does bad, you could trade him.

if we are still in first place at deadline
QUOTE(sox-r-us @ May 2, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) If Crede goes back to being Cruddy for the rest of the time between now and A/S break, you have to at least call to find out if the Nats would be willing to trade Vinny Castilla and see whether they would pay some of his salary too for a mid level prospect He is batting 0.333 currently with 3 HR, 16 RBI, 6 BBs and a 0.388 OBP, before I get the "He can only it in Coors field" response He was batting .467 last week. What does that tell you sox-r-us?? His average is dipping and he's going back to being old Vinny Castilla.

QUOTE(Wedge @ May 2, 2005 -> 01:26 PM) I agree. That'd be about the smartest $50 million we could spend. I'd rather have B-Mac and Gio eventually replacing Contreras and Duque than Garland. That way, we have guys that came up in the Sox system that should have more signability, due to club loyalty. Whether you have loved or hated Garland in the past, we've all sat back and taken our lumps waiting for him to mature. Trading your best Starting Pitcher when you're in a potential pennant race is just dumb.

if we are still in first place at deadline
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 2, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) As hard as it's been to watch Contreras he's been very effective, I just think it'd be dumb for a contending team to trade one of there starters for a prospect. I also agree. He's been very effective(he's only been giving up 3 runs at most) when we thought he would get rocked every other start. He looks shaky, but if he's only allowing 3 runs at most, you can't trade him for a prospect, especially if you have a 1st place team.

if we are still in first place at deadline
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 2, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) I wouldn't give up the world for Roger. Don't get me wrong he'd be great to have but he's not unhittable in this league like he is in the nl. He's still a very good pitcher but he'd have an era near or a bit above 4 here. Disagree. He's playing in the juicebox or whatever they are calling Houston's park these days. His ERA probably would be in the high 2's, low 3's.

Yeah, if Clemens is available and he's willing to play here(hypothetically speaking) and you truly believe you have a chance to win it all, it's your job as a GM and manager to get that player who you believe will put you over the top. I don't doubt KW would do it either(remember when he tried to get Larry Walker and Carlos Delgado last year??). With that said, even if Houston sucks, I think the only teams he would accept a trade to is Boston and NY. Didn't he want to play here after he left Boston??

Twins player suspended for Roids
First off, I just wanted to say that if a White Sox gets popped off, some fans in here are going to look like big assholes. Secondly, Tim Kurkjan said that his K/9 wasn't even 1 prior to last year. Last year it jumped hugely he said(forgot the number). Anyway, I hope everyone on the White Sox is clean. This whole 10 games is a joke. Congress is going to step in, just wait until the start of next season.

Wasn't Bartolo going to get a 4 year deal but he wanted 5??? Or was it that he wanted 4 and we wanted to give him 3??

How do you guys get these codes?

I don't think Atlanta would let him go though. Not until after the season. It seems that they rather just hold onto each player each year until the end of the year. Only time I could think of them making a big trade at midseason was Andruw Jones for Maggs which didn't happen.

I have a feeling that KW would go after Nomar(if healthy and the Flubs are out of it, as we know they will be). Seems like a KW move. He likes to get name players and Nomar at SS would show(the average fans) that the Sox are forreal about going after it all. Guarentee it wouldn't cost us McCarthy either.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ May 2, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) I think there could be surprises. Maybe th ePhils decide to get younger if they fall out completely and perhaps the BRaves would swap a player like Furcal for a guy like Juan Uribe. That's what I was thinking. Maybe we could upgrade at SS, but only if it is a better one and not an equal calibur player.

if we are still in first place at deadline
For anyone who thinks the offense is automatically heat up as the summer comes, "just because it has done for the past couple of years," just remember that this is a way different hitting lineup and alot of new faces on this team. So don't take it as an automatic heat up. If we do get pitching help, I would get Billy Wagner as an automatic closer. Hell, hopefully Houston gets so out of it that they trade Brad Lidge(living a fantasy here). I'd say there really isn't no one else that will be remotely available that I would take. I don't see Mesa as a WS closer. RF would be most logical, but you guys have to wait at least until June to determine what's going to improve and what looks like it's not.

Welcome to the Illini Richard Semrau
QUOTE(shagar69 @ May 2, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) actually it does matter for the NBA. losers like Kwame Brown come into the league and do nothing for 4 years, and then they begin to develop. It waters down the league And after those 4 years, they don't get that big contract if they suck. No one could possibly prove that going to college gives you a better chance at the NBA. In fact, high school has the better rate. Only busts have been Kwame and Leon Smith. Even at that, Leon Smith was just a headcase from the get go. Perfect example of college working against you. Chris Duhon. #1 rated player in his high school class by many scouts. Went to college. Had a picture perfect jump shot going in, horrible one after his senior year. First two years he was still considered to be a lottery pick, after staying in college, he was a 2nd round pick. Again, the success rate in college can't be proven to be better than the success rate of those who jump straight to the pro's from high school. And just like in college, you have your really good ones who make immediate impacts like KG, Kobe and you have others who take time to develop, Jermaine and McGrady. To say all of them don't contribute right off the bat is wrong.

Niiiice. Hopefully he keeps it up.

Welcome to the Illini Richard Semrau
QUOTE(shagar69 @ May 2, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) hopefully that happens. that would be great for both the NBA and college Wouldn't really matter for the NBA. Matters greatly for college though. Anyway, right now, that issue is a real lockup for the CBA. If the max salaries were at least the same length and money as the current ones, then the player's union would probably accept it, but as of right now, they are opposed to it. Hopefully the Illini get Rush, Scheyer(doubt those two though) and Collins(I think he's realistic).

QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 1, 2005 -> 10:58 PM) Sorry Nite, just didnt see any posts by you in the threads I looked at. But thanks again for adding me to Crede's Crew. I might have no life but I'll be the first to admit my "research" only covered a few threads that looked meaningful. It was over 2 years ago I'm pretty sure. Can't tell you the exact threads. Lots of times they said they hated his California attitude and I didn't mind it(JG'S attitude).

Also, Theo Davis already signed last week with Iowa State which shocked everyone because he didn't list them as a possible candidate.

Welcome to the Illini Richard Semrau
^Heard the same thing. Also Rush is leaning heavily towards the draft, but if he does go to college, he listed the Illini as the favorites as of now. I see him going pro, but if he went to Illinois, I see them primed for a deep tournament run again.

OU baseball coach resigns over race remarks
I actually went to school with Dunigan. Same class and everything. He's pretty damn big. Pretty decent basketball player too. He just needed to work on FT's.
