Sox trade Addison Reed to Diamondbacks for 3b Matt Davidson
I liked Kenny alot. I thought Hahn would be proven to be overhyped as a GM, but he is every bit of people said he was, plus more. Both way different approaches, but still great. In Hahn, I trust.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 11:25 PM) I'm assuming there are quite a few people who haven't seen the movie...so if I wrote more specifically, then it would get a bit confusing or I would be including multiple spoilers if you're not familiar with actual/real life case that the movie is based upon. http://www.forbes.com/sites/kylesmith/2013...or-oscar-grant/ My thing with what you're saying is, other movies that have won, have done the exact same thing. Whether or not you like the execution in Fruitvale Station or not, that's different. But to take off points for what others have done in the past, that's being biased.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 13, 2013 -> 09:51 AM) Beckham is a below-average Major League player. He is not worthless, but he is absolutely NOT someone that should block anyone promising. He's had plenty of time to show us what he is, and the result is a guy that should be discarded when something better comes along. Agreed 100%. I don't know if it's the hair or looks that have people mesmerized, but it certainly can't be the play.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 08:35 AM) Jesus, why give up so much? No need to include the pitching prospects. Well, De Aza sucks according to the majority of this board. Beckham does indeed suck and those who think he has any value think he could somehow turn it around after being the league for awhile. Petricka is eh. Rienzo is solid, but I wouldn't consider him near the untouchable list.

Sox acquire Adam Eaton from ARZ, deal Santiago, Jacobs
I hope we get Kendrick as well. Eaton for Santiago? Seems like the Sox could do better, and I'm not even a huge fan of Santiago.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 06:17 PM) It's too bad Jerrance Howard wasn't retained on Groce's staff. I don't even know if that would've helped. I think honestly, Illinois needs to hire a guy who's in with these players who they all look up to.

Official Recruiting Thread II
Holy crap, didn't realize Snider backed out of his committment and ended up with Pitino. Geezus, it might be the worst day in Illini Basketball History. That includes Deon Thomas. I think Groce or whoever the next coach is, flat out needs to hire Robert Smith and get a tunnel going into Chicago. That's the only way this is ever going to work.

QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 06:26 PM) And I'm comfortable saying the Heat are much worse off with LeBron injured than the Bulls are with Derrick injured. Same with the rest of the Other Two and the next two best Bulls, whoever they may be And I'm comfortable saying, the entire Bulls team has a better chance of staying completely healthy, than LeBron suffering a season ending injury. And I'd take an injured LeBron over any healthy player on our team outside of Rose.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 12:38 PM) Absolutely. Garnett is alot of things (I or anyone else, especially people who've been around him can say alot of things about him....) but one thing I will say is the man was definitely loyal to Minny. Exactly. I don't like neither him nor LeBron really, but I will say, Loyalty is the last thing you should question him on.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 10:07 AM) I know who brought it up. And I agree with Lebron, still. Why should I believe Garnett? You think he is gonna come out and say "yea I forced a trade to a contender."? Of course he is going to say he wanted to finish his career in Minnesota, he has an image he needs to maintain. But he could see he wasn't gonna win a chip in Minnesota so of course he would go along with a trade to Boston. I don't agree with Bron being the one to bring it up. If Ray has a problem, then he should bring it up. LeBron's acting like Ray's older brother trying to protect him. And those quotes were before Garnett got traded. Everyone knew he was loyal. If you can't accept that, I don't know what to say. I've provided articles showing he didn't want to leave Minny, quotes showing he didn't even want to go to Boston, but at this point, there's nothing else I could do.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 09:54 AM) Ah, Espn said it so it must be true. Bottom line, Ray did what was best for Ray, KG did why was best for KG. KG should stop losing numbers and stop b****ing about Ray. It was reported widely that KG was extremely loyal to Minny and didn't want to leave. ESPN happens to have their archives deeper than a lot of websites. Me thinks though, that you would have an issue if Woj/Yahoo was used as the source or some other media outlet. Ray was hypocritical in that he didn't want to come off the bench, still wanted to be seen as a star of the team, and didn't want to take a huge paycut, but still ended up doing all 3 to stick it to Boston. KG was convinced he could have at least one more crack in Brooklyn for a 'chip with his brother, Pierce. Pierce accepted a trade because he wanted to play basketball more than he wanted to retire a Celtic. Last, but not least, LeBron is the one who brought up KG and Pierce, to which KG responded. Since you didn't like the last source, here's Michael Hurd from Yahoo! http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/rumors/post/Ga...e?urn=nba,28987

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 09:14 AM) No need to argue with J4L as it will be decided on the court but I do find it hilarious that he refuses to acknowledge the Butler/Granger upgrades for the Bulls and Pacers. I still believe this is the Bulls year. If they're healthy come playoff time, they're the best team in basketball IMO. I hope it's the Bulls' time, but I doubt it. I agree with J4L. You can have a deep team, but you have a better chance of success with at least 2 superstars. You can only put 5 men out there. So in the end, the Bulls can have a better overall bench than Miami, but when it counts, they're going to put LeBron, Wade, Bosh all out there and they're going to score. You can only put Rose out there and they can trap him right away. Also, keep in mind, with a team like the Bulls, you heavily depend on health, because everyone is a bigger contributor than being a role player with Miami. If Hinrich is out, it hurts the Bulls alot more than if Chalmers is injured. If Taj is out, it hurts the Bulls alot more than if Haslem is injured.

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 07:58 AM) I actually agree with Lebron here. Ray Allen left because he saw that there was a significant rebuild on the way in Boston, and KG and Pierce treated him like s***. One year later Rivers moves on to the Clippers and KG waives his no trade clause to get out with Pierce and they want to act like it is no big deal. Hell, KG forced his way out of Minnesota so he could chase rings, so it isn't even the first time he did it. Ray Allen left because he didn't get along with Rondo, and Doc nor Danny came to him first when trying to resign both him and KG. He also was pissed that Doc was going to bring him off the bench for Avery Bradley. Ray Allen was butthurt. Ray Allen is a top 5 all time favorite player for me, but I'm going to call a spade a spade. He ended up with Miami to stick it to Boston. The Clippers wanted him and were offering a starting spot last year, but he declined to take less cash in Miami and to come off the bench. Rivers did move to the Clippers because the Celtics were rebuilding and he wanted no parts of that. He knows how that went in Orlando and again in Boston before the Big 3. People were calling for his head before the Big 3 got there and they won a chip. So he decided he wanted to go to a team entering or in its prime and ready to contend. That's the Clippers. Pierce wanted to finish his career in Boston. He had no problems playing for a bad team, or with Rondo. He wanted to finish his career there and play out his contract. Danny didn't want that because he felt like they could get some assets for him and they wanted to build towards the future. Keeping Pierce would further delay that. KG wanted to be with Doc and Pierce. When the trade with the Clippers didn't come through, he took the Nets because he would be with Pierce. If Pierce would've been the only one dealt, KG probably would've retired. Last, but not least, KG did not force his way out of Minny. He wanted to stay there. When he finally realized he wasn't going to win a chip there, he still didn't want to go to Boston because he heard it was a racist city. It wasn't until Boston acquired Ray Allen and then be recruited by Doc, Pierce and Ray, did he accept Boston as a reality. Don't believe me, here's the article even stating he didn't want to leave Minny until he found that they were trying to trade him anywhere. http://espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2954127

I was killing this one guy in fantasy. Dwayne Bowe, Giovani Benard and Cam Newton didn't show up, but everyone else on offense scored at least 20 points. I'm thinking, I'm in the clear, but then Peyton Manning drops 65 points. And Prater dropped 18, now this guy has came back and taken a 2 point lead.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 29, 2013 -> 09:37 PM) That's a wild story. Yet Jerry has no problem with the Royals' inept owner, David Glass. I wonder what Jerry feared from Cuban in owning the Cubs. The Cubs appear to have a capable owner now. Cuban might have been worse than what the Cubs would up getting. Eh, he knew Cuban would throw all his money into attempting to fixing the Cubs. With Ricketts, he knows he won't spend much money in improving the team.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 29, 2013 -> 09:15 PM) As far as not getting good again til JR moves on, why can't Cuban own a baseball team? Why does baseball not want him in? I'd love to see him take over for JR and throw his tantrums at the umps, etc., and maybe put the pressure on some people to turn the Sox into a Central Division power. If we could just win the division every other year, I'd be pleased. It's not a difficult division in theory. Funny enough, JR was the one who blocked him from getting the Cubs. Cuban was on Olbermann a few weeks ago, said he made a tour around baseball and had 6 owners who said they would vote to have him get the Cubs. He met JR and JR told him to not even bother, he had no chance. He didn't bother listening to JR, but was indeed blocked from buying the Cubs by him. I've also heard in a different interview, he won't pursue another ballclub until Selig is gone.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 29, 2013 -> 06:52 PM) If you don't start players that are questionable during the week you're going to be missing out on a lot of good players, that's a pretty ridiculous reason to bench Ray Rice and as Krush said you're not benching him if he plays. You're right, you shouldn't bench anyone who is questionable. My point is benching someone who is questionable up until the day of. Usually, if a player is expected to be at least 85% of what they normally are, they are questionable during the week up until Friday. Rice was questionable up until Sunday morning. There were doubts of him playing Saturday night as I was listening to the radio.

Ray Rice was questionable up until today. You guys should've known, Rice wasn't going to play great if they fed him the ball. And where are the people who said Spiller is the man in Denver and Fred Jackson(though I called him Thomas on accident), wasn't going to be a factor?

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Sep 29, 2013 -> 01:34 PM) As we discuss these coaching situations, and the actions of the FO bringing former players back into the fold, I can't help but feel that the 800 lb. gorilla is ultimately being ignored. Specifically, is JR, as he ages, running the team more and more like a family, and less and less like a business, as he needs to? Position player drafting and development philosophies throughout our org. need a serious enema, but will RH be able to do the housecleaning that's necessary? Just one of many ?'s I have about our future. Is the "Reinsdorf Ring of Loyalty", as flavum hilariously called it, inhibiting us from making the necessary changes? When I see what the Pirates have accomplished this year by lowering BABIP Against through defensive positioning in conjunction with pitching strategy, and what Maddon accomplishes in this area annually, it seems obvious that we seriously need some new approaches to get with the times. The way we seemingly value power more than hit tool/OBP in our draft/development looks like a strategy better suited to 2000, than to 2013 onward. Does it trickle down from a narrow "we play in a HR hitters park, therefore, we need to develop HR hitters" mindset, rather than a (preferably to me) "become a good hitter FIRST and trust that the power will come" philosophy? I fear that we won't get to where we all want to be until JR moves on. Probably a topic for a new thread, but I'm lazy. QFT. Beautiful post.

The others I have Luck/Eli and Ryan/Shaub....Sans Ryan I sucked at drafting QBs, waited too long in each of em. To me, that's easy. Dalton Luck Ryan

QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 10:22 PM) I meant that I had Redman and Bell in 2 of the leagues so dropping Redman was a no brainer. I thought Sudfeld had to break out at some point. I don't really NEED Glennon I just like the kid, and think he'll be a good talent. Going back to the offseason when I was doing research for mock drafts I was hoping he fell to the Bears in the 4th. Big kid with a cannon for an arm that Mike Mayock compared to Joe Flacco. With no other good options in the FA market and dead weight to be cut there's nothing I lose in this situation. If he sucks and a good option presents itself in the FA market then he's gone. If he's good then I don't have to worry about the waiver wire. You still haven't told us who your other QBs are/were or who they were before you dropped them for Glennon.

Konerko to address media this afternoon
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 04:10 PM) It was basically mentioned that this meeting would be exactly what it was. When Paulie retires, there will be a huge formal press conference called by the White Sox, and we will know what it is about in advance. Greg was right again. He was doing this because he gets asked about this multiple times daily and it was only going to get worse the final days of the season. Now the press knows they won't get a different answer. And all he had to say was, "I'm going to take a month to decide after the season, period." right after a game or right before the game. And I guarantee the reporters would've left him alone about it because everyone respects him.
