Tigers sign Victor Martinez 4yr/$50m

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 24, 2010 -> 09:24 AM) This is such a silly factoid. It implies that the Sox don't go after high priced free agents, which they do. (Remember offering Torii Hunter $75 million?) It also ignores that they have brought in plenty of high priced contracts from other teams (Peavy and Rios being the two most recent), and they also give big contracts internally. (Buehrle and Konerko being the two big ones recently. Basically it means the Sox won't over pay in free agency. At the end of the day, they will just wait a year or two on the same player, but with a shorter term contract. It really is a smarter idea if you think about it Except you're taking a chance on an older player who probably is starting to breakdown and you're pissing off the White Sox fanbase who believes we should never have gone after the guy as he's past his prime. It's only a good idea when you have great talent in your farm system. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 11:45 PM) It wasn't spataro who was totally responsible for Clemens. There was another poster in the actual thread who said something as well. This is the person, who - I believe - really made SI pay attention because of a name drop. Steff? Anyway, when I try to click on anything in that thread, it says it doesn't exist. -

QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 11:06 PM) I've been here for a while and I can tell you that there's one guy in this thread that I'm absolutely convinced has a damn good source....he's been spot on about a few things. He's never come out and said, "yo, check out this insider info I've got" but he'll drop names of players, etc. very nonchalantly and next thing you know we're in the running for said player. Now that I know he has a PM list for this info, I sure wish I were on it Who, Rock? I haven't really ever seen him mention names. I don't get why so many people are uptight about posting what information they have or think they have. Why not just post it? -

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 11:42 AM) It WAS awesome. And the match was kinda competitive, so you weren't really sure until the end if he would even win. GREAT STUFF. (and a great Cena promo as well - hilarious) Damn right. I was hoping Wade would win, but this is the 2nd best thing. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 10:50 PM) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=38687 Broken link. If that's the thread I think you're talking about which says a couple of players were caught roiding in the playoffs, I don't remember it specifically stating Roger as one of them. If that is the article, I would probably discount it. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) Joe Johnson Richard Hamiltion Richard Jefferson Ben Gordon Joe Johnson could easily be moved. Offer him up and the Knicks take him in a heartbeat. Richard Hamilton was moveable, but Dumars hasn't moved him. I think Utah wanted him in the offseason IIRC. Pistons don't want to move Gordon and he's certainly not immovable at all. He has a friendly contract. Jefferson is moveable as well. Heck, I thought he was more of a pain to move on his previous contract and two teams traded for him two years in a row. Gilbert I'll give. Gilbert Rashard Luol Iguodala(though apparently, there's interest) Brand Baron
-
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) Rashard Lewis has a worse contract then Deng I would have thought..... I stand correct. Deng is the 4th hardest contract in the NBA to move.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 10:52 AM) This is so laughable. Baron Davis and Elton Brand are worthless, while Luol Deng is a 20 ppg, 6 rpg, 3 apg player who will play solid defense and shoot a pretty good field goal percentage. Your hate of all things Deng is ridiculous. And yes, Deng has a big contract, but please don't compare him to Brand/Davis. Oh really? Show me what year Luol ever averaged 20ppg? Show me when he ever had 3apg? His career stats: 15.9ppg, 6.5rpg, 2.2apg That's awful for the money he's making. There's a reason why the Sixers won't take him for Iguodala. Or the Nuggets absolutely refuse to take him in any Melo deal. His career PER is 16.3 which is slightly above average. His PER the last three seasons 14.7, 16.1, 14.2(that's this year). Showing his trends are downward. His career TS% is .527. He's only had two seasons when he's gone above that and one was in 06-07 when he has a TS% of .560 which is carrying upwards. I don't think I have to explain his eFG%. So please, tell me how Luol is any great? Tell me how or when he has ever lived up to his contract. Is he a useful player? Yes he is. His defense is pretty solid and he's a decent rebounder. That's the extent of it though. For a guy making: $11,345,000 $12,325,000 $13,365,000 $14,275,000 N/A N/A $51,310,000 over the next four years, that's an awful contract and that's why the Bulls would be hard pressed to get rid of it.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 21, 2010 -> 07:31 PM) The Clippers need to firesale everyone not Griffin or Gordon and just stockpile draft picks. Kaman could net you some nice pieces and Baron could probably get something. The scary part is the Clippers could get Harrison Barnes. Think of a core of Gordon-Barnes-Griffin. Yikes. Baron is the 3rd most unmovable contract right next to Luol Deng and Elton Brand in the NBA. You're not going to get any pieces for him. Kaman can net you something, but then you better hope DeAndre develops quickly which it doesn't look like he will.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 08:09 AM) A 2 year old died after falling out of a luxury suite at Staples Center during the Lakers/Warriors game. Wow. RIP. Wonder what happened to the parents. They must be in an awful state right now.

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 11:00 AM) It's possible Auburn did pay Newton. But this stuff has been going around the past few days. It's a combination of old news and stuff Alabama fans dug up and posted on Bama message boards. It is far from credible. For example, do you really think it would be public knowledge that the FBI has wiretaps of conversations to turn into the NCAA? Do you think the FBI is releasing that info? Hell no. The NCAA doesn't say squat about pending investigations, so who would know? It's all conjecture and not based on factual knowledge. I think they payed them, but I think it's a situation of Miss St trying to bring another program down with them. I don't think Auburn is guilty of doing anything that any other program in the country has done. Well successful one that is. A couple of people on different boards have stated they have legit sources saying Urban was the original leak and guy pushing this stuff to the forefront. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 11:53 AM) Slap on the wrist, though I guess that's only the SEC's punishment. Flat out lying to the NCAA should be an automatic ban of some sort. It's not like he made a few more phone calls or something trivial. Agreed. He get let off super easy. -

The Dolphins didn't even try to run the ball last night, even with Marshall going out. They only ran it 7 times or something ridiculous like that. -

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) Maybe now we can stop treating Wrigley Field like an entertainment mecca. It is a terrible venue that is barely able to host baseball games. This. The game should've never been held there. Same with the Winter Classic. -
Suburbs would not be good for the team and make them a redheaded step child of Chicago. I do think if they tore down and built a brand new stadium there, you would still have the fanbase occupying it as the allure is the neighborhood, bars, area and the Cubs as a team.

As far as Cam being solicited, either way, if he took money, whether offered to him or not, he's still in violation. I do wonder though if Florida did give him money originally. They've been awfully quiet throughout this. -
Stop calling him TCQ. What does the T even stand for?!
-
I like it. I prefer VMart, but Olivo would be nice. I still think we resign AJ.
-
Reynolds on the block as well for Arizona.
-
Listened to Kanye's album and it's probably his worse work to date IMHO. Suprisingly, two of his best songs ever are on the album, All Of The Lights(original leak was better) and Power(though I like the extended version better). Those are probably my favorite songs by him ever. The rest of the songs are boring and mediocre.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Nov 15, 2010 -> 05:48 PM) I think i'm the only one who likes those "futuristic" jerseys I like the jerseys too. Loved the combat uniforms from last year. The U ones look nice this year too. Too bad the team blows.
