Films Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 29, 2010 -> 06:23 PM) I thought it was bad and it wasn't even that it was predictable because most movies are. The characters were poorly written (typical Cameron with the most cliche villain imaginable), the dialogue was cheesy, and the love story was laughable. Not to mention the fact that humans in the movie are capable of traveling across a galaxy, and create the Avatars but they lose to a bunch of natives with bows and arrows (which by the way couldn't pierce the windows when they first encounter the gunships but could later in the movie)? GTFO. And let us also not forget that despite the fact that they can cross a galaxy with ships they can't launch a missile but instead have to fly an incredibly slow flying plane to drop explosives, just absolutely ridiculous. Agreed. It surpassed Citizen Kane as the most overhyped movie I've ever seen in my life.

There's nothing wrong with Wahlberg. In terms of Max Payne, the story is what made it suffer.

Anyone know if the Sox plan on going to arbitration with Alexei or are possibly going to offer him a multi-year deal?

QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 27, 2010 -> 10:29 AM) No its not. As I've said before, Boise was gassed in the 4th quarter and they were gassed against VT. You put that team in a conference where they'll have 6 tests in 7 weeks and we'll see a Boise team that will get worse as the season progresses. I disagree. That Boise team would recruit much better players and be able to play with the big boys. It works both ways. The competition would get tougher, but since their coaching is really really good, they would also get enough recruits to be an even better team than they are now. Either way though, I hate Boise. I've been riding with TCU for so long. Let's hope South Carolina could pull something out.

Yankees to offer 3 years $45 million to Jeter
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 26, 2010 -> 06:27 PM) If Jeter is using ARod as him comparison, he is stupid. Look at the ages they were at the end of their respective contracts, and the seasons they put up. There would have been a market for Alex, while not what the Yankees paid, him, it still would have been 80-90% of what he got. Jeter probably would be lucky to get a third of what he is asking for. I agree it's stupid, but Derek probably sees it as "I've done so much more for the organization, done whatever you guys wanted, am your captain, I never went into FA before, done more than A-Rod, it's time to pay up". Yes, their ages are different, but I don't think Derek really is paying attention to that. And I think A-Rod would get at most, 80% of what his last contract was and he definitely would not have gotten ownership stake in the team he signed with.

Yankees to offer 3 years $45 million to Jeter
I think the reason why he's doing this is simply because they gave A-Rod the world when no one else was going to and couldn't even if they wanted to. If they didn't overpay A-Rod, I'm sure Derek would be less crazy about his next contract. But they gave A-Rod a crazy base salary, incentives up the wazoo, and an ownership stake in the team. It's ridiculous what he got without having any leverage, and now Derek wants the love too.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 24, 2010 -> 07:56 PM) The Ohio State President is taking a lot of heat for anti Boise State/TCU comments he made. I'm going to take the side of the Boise State President in this debate simply because the Ohio State guy apparently defended the BCS too, and you'd have to be some kind of idiot to do that. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news...stpresident-bcs If it came from someone other than him, it would have some validity, but OSU literally always underperforms. Who have they faced this year besides Miami who was #12 when they faced them, but now is unranked. I think TCU and BSU would wipe the floor with OSU.

Tigers sign Victor Martinez 4yr/$50m
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 24, 2010 -> 09:58 AM) I know in this specific case that Martinez is being talked about, but really the explanation is for a very general purpose. or Manny Ramirez or Ken Griffey Jr or Sandy Alomar or Jim Thome(the outcry for Rowand was ridiculous).

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 24, 2010 -> 09:24 AM) This is such a silly factoid. It implies that the Sox don't go after high priced free agents, which they do. (Remember offering Torii Hunter $75 million?) It also ignores that they have brought in plenty of high priced contracts from other teams (Peavy and Rios being the two most recent), and they also give big contracts internally. (Buehrle and Konerko being the two big ones recently. Basically it means the Sox won't over pay in free agency. At the end of the day, they will just wait a year or two on the same player, but with a shorter term contract. It really is a smarter idea if you think about it Except you're taking a chance on an older player who probably is starting to breakdown and you're pissing off the White Sox fanbase who believes we should never have gone after the guy as he's past his prime. It's only a good idea when you have great talent in your farm system.

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 11:45 PM) It wasn't spataro who was totally responsible for Clemens. There was another poster in the actual thread who said something as well. This is the person, who - I believe - really made SI pay attention because of a name drop. Steff? Anyway, when I try to click on anything in that thread, it says it doesn't exist.

QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 11:06 PM) I've been here for a while and I can tell you that there's one guy in this thread that I'm absolutely convinced has a damn good source....he's been spot on about a few things. He's never come out and said, "yo, check out this insider info I've got" but he'll drop names of players, etc. very nonchalantly and next thing you know we're in the running for said player. Now that I know he has a PM list for this info, I sure wish I were on it Who, Rock? I haven't really ever seen him mention names. I don't get why so many people are uptight about posting what information they have or think they have. Why not just post it?

If that's the thread I think you're talking about which says a couple of players were caught roiding in the playoffs, I don't remember it specifically stating Roger as one of them. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) Joe Johnson Richard Hamiltion Richard Jefferson Ben Gordon Joe Johnson could easily be moved. Offer him up and the Knicks take him in a heartbeat. Richard Hamilton was moveable, but Dumars hasn't moved him. I think Utah wanted him in the offseason IIRC. Pistons don't want to move Gordon and he's certainly not immovable at all. He has a friendly contract. Jefferson is moveable as well. Heck, I thought he was more of a pain to move on his previous contract and two teams traded for him two years in a row. Gilbert I'll give. Gilbert Rashard Luol Iguodala(though apparently, there's interest) Brand Baron

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 10:52 AM) This is so laughable. Baron Davis and Elton Brand are worthless, while Luol Deng is a 20 ppg, 6 rpg, 3 apg player who will play solid defense and shoot a pretty good field goal percentage. Your hate of all things Deng is ridiculous. And yes, Deng has a big contract, but please don't compare him to Brand/Davis. Oh really? Show me what year Luol ever averaged 20ppg? Show me when he ever had 3apg? His career stats: 15.9ppg, 6.5rpg, 2.2apg That's awful for the money he's making. There's a reason why the Sixers won't take him for Iguodala. Or the Nuggets absolutely refuse to take him in any Melo deal. His career PER is 16.3 which is slightly above average. His PER the last three seasons 14.7, 16.1, 14.2(that's this year). Showing his trends are downward. His career TS% is .527. He's only had two seasons when he's gone above that and one was in 06-07 when he has a TS% of .560 which is carrying upwards. I don't think I have to explain his eFG%. So please, tell me how Luol is any great? Tell me how or when he has ever lived up to his contract. Is he a useful player? Yes he is. His defense is pretty solid and he's a decent rebounder. That's the extent of it though. For a guy making: $11,345,000 $12,325,000 $13,365,000 $14,275,000 N/A N/A $51,310,000 over the next four years, that's an awful contract and that's why the Bulls would be hard pressed to get rid of it.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 21, 2010 -> 07:31 PM) The Clippers need to firesale everyone not Griffin or Gordon and just stockpile draft picks. Kaman could net you some nice pieces and Baron could probably get something. The scary part is the Clippers could get Harrison Barnes. Think of a core of Gordon-Barnes-Griffin. Yikes. Baron is the 3rd most unmovable contract right next to Luol Deng and Elton Brand in the NBA. You're not going to get any pieces for him. Kaman can net you something, but then you better hope DeAndre develops quickly which it doesn't look like he will.

Official 2010-2011 NCAA Football Thread
QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 11:00 AM) It's possible Auburn did pay Newton. But this stuff has been going around the past few days. It's a combination of old news and stuff Alabama fans dug up and posted on Bama message boards. It is far from credible. For example, do you really think it would be public knowledge that the FBI has wiretaps of conversations to turn into the NCAA? Do you think the FBI is releasing that info? Hell no. The NCAA doesn't say squat about pending investigations, so who would know? It's all conjecture and not based on factual knowledge. I think they payed them, but I think it's a situation of Miss St trying to bring another program down with them. I don't think Auburn is guilty of doing anything that any other program in the country has done. Well successful one that is. A couple of people on different boards have stated they have legit sources saying Urban was the original leak and guy pushing this stuff to the forefront.
