Saying they stood pat is incorrect and implies they tried to do nothing at all to improve their team. They went out and got Edwin Jackson. They went out and tried super duper hard for a slugger and just were unlucky in doing so until 8/31/10.

Yeah, GoldenEye isn't a big deal. And Daniel Craig is a much better Bond anyway. Too bad the franchise is in trouble though.

Personally, when finding someone, it's best to go without a plan. You limit yourself if you say "I'm going to wait until I'm fully settled down." You miss out on life a ton by doing so, not just women. Rock said he would've grown apart from a woman he met when he was 22. While this can happen, you can also grow with someone. And most valuable, you end up learning more about yourself.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 07:04 PM) When Manny WAS Manny, he didn't need 3 weeks and there is no way KW would have claimed him if he thought Manny needed anything longer than a week. KW thought wrong. But at the same time, if they bring back Konerko, there's not going to be much better options than bringing in Manny. Dunn will be too expensive for them unfortunately. We shall see though. Everything hinges on PK.

Picked up the Evo this past weekend. Best phone I've ever had. Only question is, my girlfriend got the same phone and she's having a problem receiving text messages and email on time. They'll be timestamped for a different time and that's when she'll receive them even though they're sent way earlier. Anyone know how to change this? Never happens with my phone and the phones are normally next to each other.

Who won last night? I didn't bother ordering because my older brother is the huge fan and he was working. I usually only order the PPV's for him. With that said, the pounding fists thing is just dumb and I wish they would do away with it. I also hate the punt. I think that's a dumb move too. I do love the DDT from the ropes. -

The big question for the Bears is going to be, can they play fast paced in the frozen tundra of Lord Soldier's Field. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 06:48 PM) Fastballs are blowing him away. His bat is slow. Maybe its technical, maybe its a lack of juice and age. There are some here that think the Sox may want to give Manny a contract for next season, according to Gonzales, there is no chance. He's been with the Sox for 3 weeks and still doesn't have his "timing". I'm thinking he's not the MVP type hitter he used to be. It takes a lot longer to have your timing down than 3 weeks. That's why there is ST. IIRC, he had a leg injury. If he still has it, it can affect his timing too. I'd be willing to give him an incentive laden deal. He can still clearly hit offspeed stuff. He clearly still has a great eye. It's a matter of, "is he losing batspeed, or is the injury still affecting him?"

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) Sorry, but running the clock out is actually running some sizeable chunk of the clock off, not running the ball for no gain three times and taking the minimal amount of time off the clock without it stopping. They made the Cowboys burn two timeouts. As a 'boys fan, that hurts big time. Because as soon as that happened, the Cowboys had to throw everything to the sidelines. It took away half the field. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) oh really, 4 turnovers wasn't a big problem? That was a big problem, but the predictive playcalling on that drive was a bigger one and the end reason on why they lost the game. They literally ran the ball 6 straight times, no variety either. Balta would've been livid. Favre just looks old nowadays. -

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) BTW, think Brett Favre understands the point of training camp after today? Not really. Bigger problem was 6 runs on goal and no td. No pass attempts whatsoever. -

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) Is this line better without Chris Williams? Kevin Shaffer looks good at RT. Yes. They looked a ton better without Chris Williams. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 03:00 PM) That was the absolute right call. Bears took up about 2 minutes on those 3 runs and the Cowboys now have 2 minutes to score 10 pts. Going to take a lot things going the right way to get them. Yes it was. Text book running out the clock and burning TO's. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 03:02 PM) The issue is that we can't run the ball. There is no hope of running the clock out. What you're doing is saying we are willing to trade 2 minutes coming off the clock for possession of the ball. I'd rather use safe passes and at least have some hope of making a first down. The reward by far outweighs the small risk in my opinion, considering the odds of making a first down on the ground are about 10 %. That is running out the clock. You waste two minutes and they waste a few timeouts. They need two scores and there's not much time left. That's how you do it. -

QUOTE (The Critic @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 12:11 AM) I absolutely agree with this. That was the main thing I liked about Orton's version of the Diamond Cutter - you never knew exactly when he would hit it. I'm not a fan of the "called shot" finishers at all, with the possible exception of Edge crouched in the corner, waving his arm in the "get up" motion. I do like that one. I agree. Only Edge has a decent "called shot" finisher. -

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) hahaha, "by far" my ass. He is god awful. Your perspective is wrong. Ok, so with another coach, the Bears are a Super Bowl contender? They're a playoff contender? They can switch to a 3-4 scheme and they'll instantly be better? They haven't tried different offenses? The next coach is going to pick the "right" offense because he's smarter than Lovie, right? The offensive line is filled up and down with Pro Bowl talent? Their corners are flat speed studs who can cover anyone in the open field or hit them hard enough to fumble each time? Urlacher is not aging? The Bears have two semi studs and one huge stud as WR's? The only wrong move Lovie is doing is not playing Major Wright and Chris Harris together at their natural positions. But please, have the forum and prove me wrong. -

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 12:28 PM) His attitude amplifies all his other sucky qualities by 1000. I just want to hear him say for once "yeah that was stupid on my part, I'll get that fixed" instead of his usual "pfff, silly reporter, i clearly know more about this game than you so I don't have to explain myself" attitude. His "scheme" doesn't work when you don't have the players to run it yet he refuses to accept this. Up until this year, we had a non-existent pass rush, yet he runs the D like we have an all-pro d-line and amazing secondary. We f***ing don't, adapt to it. He has single handily cost this team wins and therefore playoff appearances, and not fake-cost them games like Ozzie. I'm pretty sure he has the highest winning percentage of near the top of the last few Bears coaches. Also, how do you expect a head coach to run a scheme he knows nothing about. If he doesn't have the players to run his scheme, that falls on his GM, not him. You knew what scheme he ran when he was hired. It was proven to work in multiple stops. And you want him to perform career suicide by saying "Yeah, I messed that up. Yeah, that too. That's my fault. Yep, my scheme sucks." Lovie is by far one of the better coaches in the league. He just doesn't have the horses. That's my outsider perspective on things. -

I liked him more as a heel. As a face, he just sucks. And this whole snake persona sucks. I love the RKO and the legend killer type stuff. The trash talking he did. That stupid pounding of the fists when he's about to do an RKO is terrible. It takes away from the mystique of the RKO. It can happen at anytime during the match. Now you know exactly when it is coming. -

Its the way the reporter comes across as well. The Tribune had an excellent article yesterday about it. I think Haugh wrote it. But basically, she was asking Bears players to marry her when she covered their Super Bowl year. She looks at dudes very flirtatiously, etc. So in this girl's particular case, she dresses the part, but pretends not to be a you know what. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 11:41 AM) 2nd most competent hitter the last 2 weeks? LOL. Manny has 1 hit with RISP in a White Sox uniform. He has fanned a few times, popped up to SS. Grounded out to SS with 0 out not advancing the runner. Great approach. He's a shell of his roided out self. By competent, I mean approach. His approach to hitting is only 2nd to PK. He doesn't try to do much at the plate. He goes with the pitch. He takes the walk if that's all they're giving him. And as horrific as the guy has been, his line looks damn good in a Sox uniform. His slugging could be a lot better. He's struck out 14 times, yea, but he also has 8 walks in that time. .295avg .456OBP .364SLG .820OPS So I don't really see this as an argument to Manny should just retire. Not at all. I think people just hate Manny because he's not Jim and he used to be on the 'roids, so they'll turn on the beer goggles. .279avg .409OBP .618SLG 1.027OPS That's Thome's line. His slugging is great, but that's the only thing better than Manny. And again, Manny just came back not too long ago from a chunk of time off. 81K's and 57BB. .70 walk to k ratio. And it would probably be more if he was a regular everyday player. Yep, .56 walk to k ratio. His average would be about 30 points lower as well. What the Sox have in Manny is someone who is definitely not as bad as Thome last year, but not as good(if you weight SLG% most heavily).

I will argue this. Manny has given Konerko protection in the lineup. He's been our second most competent hitter over the past 2 weeks. His approach is the 2nd greatest behind Konerko. He has taken walks when the opposition has given them to him. He has gone the opposite way when that's what he's been given. He's struck out, for the most part, at swinging at pitches in his zone. As Ozzie said, you're expecting way too much of Manny. He was never going to be a saviour. In baseball, there is no such thing. Amazing pitchers can only pitch once out of every 5 games. Amazing hitters need other amazing hitters for protection and to drive them in or to give them RBI opportunities. Last, but not least, remember that Manny was injured for a good chunk of the season. He has to get him timing down on those inside pitches. I'm not excusing him from anything, but I'm not going to blindly place the blame on him because he hasn't gone on a Dodger streak yet. He has been the 2nd least of our problems.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 07:35 AM) When they are paying you what they are paying Manny for 4 weeks, 2 weeks of no production is extremely significant. Normally, I'd agree with you it would be ridiculous, but in this case, ridiculous is saying the 2 weeks is a joke. You only are going to pay him that kind of money for a month if you believe he's going to contribute immediately if not sooner. I don't want to pin all the losses on Manny, that wouldn't be fair or correct, but in the first game of a series the Sox needed to sweep, he came up to the plate with RISP 3 times and struck out all 3 times, and the Sox went on to get blown out. He has been and no matter what he does the rest of the season, will be, a total waste of money. All the ticket sales he was supposed to generate were a mirage. I don't see any Manny jerseys (I still see a few Griffey jerseys), not one Manny wig. He gets booed when he comes to the plate. It may be 2 weeks, but it hasn't gone according to plan. You should look harder. On the game against the Twins the other day, there was a girl with a Manny wig they showed on tv right outside the Sox dugout and they showed a guy wearing a Manny wig along the 1B line. There were a couple of others, but those are the ones they zeroed in on.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 11:26 AM) 2K8 sucks, it got some of the worst reviews and didn't sell at all, which is why 2K9 went back to Visual Concepts. 2K7 was alright, but the Show trumps all of them at this point. Agreed. And I bought 2k8. I did love the pitching though.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) Ozzie is far more clever than people give him credit for. He's orchestrated a classic "right where we want them" strategy. Having lulled the Twins into contentment, he will now unleash his FULL managerial skills, the ones he's been hiding for the last 6 years. Get ready to be dazzled! Correct for truth.
