Cutler looked like an elite QB and the offense is looking good which I thought it would. Bears lucked into the right hire there.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 12:11 AM) I absolutely agree with this. That was the main thing I liked about Orton's version of the Diamond Cutter - you never knew exactly when he would hit it. I'm not a fan of the "called shot" finishers at all, with the possible exception of Edge crouched in the corner, waving his arm in the "get up" motion. I do like that one. I agree. Only Edge has a decent "called shot" finisher.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) hahaha, "by far" my ass. He is god awful. Your perspective is wrong. Ok, so with another coach, the Bears are a Super Bowl contender? They're a playoff contender? They can switch to a 3-4 scheme and they'll instantly be better? They haven't tried different offenses? The next coach is going to pick the "right" offense because he's smarter than Lovie, right? The offensive line is filled up and down with Pro Bowl talent? Their corners are flat speed studs who can cover anyone in the open field or hit them hard enough to fumble each time? Urlacher is not aging? The Bears have two semi studs and one huge stud as WR's? The only wrong move Lovie is doing is not playing Major Wright and Chris Harris together at their natural positions. But please, have the forum and prove me wrong.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 12:28 PM) His attitude amplifies all his other sucky qualities by 1000. I just want to hear him say for once "yeah that was stupid on my part, I'll get that fixed" instead of his usual "pfff, silly reporter, i clearly know more about this game than you so I don't have to explain myself" attitude. His "scheme" doesn't work when you don't have the players to run it yet he refuses to accept this. Up until this year, we had a non-existent pass rush, yet he runs the D like we have an all-pro d-line and amazing secondary. We f***ing don't, adapt to it. He has single handily cost this team wins and therefore playoff appearances, and not fake-cost them games like Ozzie. I'm pretty sure he has the highest winning percentage of near the top of the last few Bears coaches. Also, how do you expect a head coach to run a scheme he knows nothing about. If he doesn't have the players to run his scheme, that falls on his GM, not him. You knew what scheme he ran when he was hired. It was proven to work in multiple stops. And you want him to perform career suicide by saying "Yeah, I messed that up. Yeah, that too. That's my fault. Yep, my scheme sucks." Lovie is by far one of the better coaches in the league. He just doesn't have the horses. That's my outsider perspective on things.

I liked him more as a heel. As a face, he just sucks. And this whole snake persona sucks. I love the RKO and the legend killer type stuff. The trash talking he did. That stupid pounding of the fists when he's about to do an RKO is terrible. It takes away from the mystique of the RKO. It can happen at anytime during the match. Now you know exactly when it is coming.

Women in the locker room
Its the way the reporter comes across as well. The Tribune had an excellent article yesterday about it. I think Haugh wrote it. But basically, she was asking Bears players to marry her when she covered their Super Bowl year. She looks at dudes very flirtatiously, etc. So in this girl's particular case, she dresses the part, but pretends not to be a you know what.

Manny Should Just Retire...
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 11:41 AM) 2nd most competent hitter the last 2 weeks? LOL. Manny has 1 hit with RISP in a White Sox uniform. He has fanned a few times, popped up to SS. Grounded out to SS with 0 out not advancing the runner. Great approach. He's a shell of his roided out self. By competent, I mean approach. His approach to hitting is only 2nd to PK. He doesn't try to do much at the plate. He goes with the pitch. He takes the walk if that's all they're giving him. And as horrific as the guy has been, his line looks damn good in a Sox uniform. His slugging could be a lot better. He's struck out 14 times, yea, but he also has 8 walks in that time. .295avg .456OBP .364SLG .820OPS So I don't really see this as an argument to Manny should just retire. Not at all. I think people just hate Manny because he's not Jim and he used to be on the 'roids, so they'll turn on the beer goggles. .279avg .409OBP .618SLG 1.027OPS That's Thome's line. His slugging is great, but that's the only thing better than Manny. And again, Manny just came back not too long ago from a chunk of time off. 81K's and 57BB. .70 walk to k ratio. And it would probably be more if he was a regular everyday player. Yep, .56 walk to k ratio. His average would be about 30 points lower as well. What the Sox have in Manny is someone who is definitely not as bad as Thome last year, but not as good(if you weight SLG% most heavily).

Manny Should Just Retire...
I will argue this. Manny has given Konerko protection in the lineup. He's been our second most competent hitter over the past 2 weeks. His approach is the 2nd greatest behind Konerko. He has taken walks when the opposition has given them to him. He has gone the opposite way when that's what he's been given. He's struck out, for the most part, at swinging at pitches in his zone. As Ozzie said, you're expecting way too much of Manny. He was never going to be a saviour. In baseball, there is no such thing. Amazing pitchers can only pitch once out of every 5 games. Amazing hitters need other amazing hitters for protection and to drive them in or to give them RBI opportunities. Last, but not least, remember that Manny was injured for a good chunk of the season. He has to get him timing down on those inside pitches. I'm not excusing him from anything, but I'm not going to blindly place the blame on him because he hasn't gone on a Dodger streak yet. He has been the 2nd least of our problems.

Manny Should Just Retire...
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 07:35 AM) When they are paying you what they are paying Manny for 4 weeks, 2 weeks of no production is extremely significant. Normally, I'd agree with you it would be ridiculous, but in this case, ridiculous is saying the 2 weeks is a joke. You only are going to pay him that kind of money for a month if you believe he's going to contribute immediately if not sooner. I don't want to pin all the losses on Manny, that wouldn't be fair or correct, but in the first game of a series the Sox needed to sweep, he came up to the plate with RISP 3 times and struck out all 3 times, and the Sox went on to get blown out. He has been and no matter what he does the rest of the season, will be, a total waste of money. All the ticket sales he was supposed to generate were a mirage. I don't see any Manny jerseys (I still see a few Griffey jerseys), not one Manny wig. He gets booed when he comes to the plate. It may be 2 weeks, but it hasn't gone according to plan. You should look harder. On the game against the Twins the other day, there was a girl with a Manny wig they showed on tv right outside the Sox dugout and they showed a guy wearing a Manny wig along the 1B line. There were a couple of others, but those are the ones they zeroed in on.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 11:26 AM) 2K8 sucks, it got some of the worst reviews and didn't sell at all, which is why 2K9 went back to Visual Concepts. 2K7 was alright, but the Show trumps all of them at this point. Agreed. And I bought 2k8. I did love the pitching though.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) Ozzie is far more clever than people give him credit for. He's orchestrated a classic "right where we want them" strategy. Having lulled the Twins into contentment, he will now unleash his FULL managerial skills, the ones he's been hiding for the last 6 years. Get ready to be dazzled! Correct for truth.

Time To Change The Business Model
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) What about acquiring Danks and Floyd? No wayyyyyy. We gave up the incomparable Brandon McCarthy and hard as heck to duplicate Freddy Garcia! Honestly, all these people keep saying we can't keep draining our minor leagues of talent to plug up holes, but when has it bit us in the butt?! Even the greatest pieces like Gio Gonzalez aren't near all-star level. And trust me, I was one of the biggest Gio fans ever. Chris Young will drive you into tantrums if Pierre upsets you.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 08:10 AM) Ya, for Arizona. That is going to be a really really tough game. Arizona is a strong team at home and has a pretty darn good offense. The game scares the hell out of me as a Hawkeye fan. It shouldn't. Iowa is going to mop the floor with Arizona.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 09:43 AM) ding ding ding. Lubbie was given the ball-less title when he does s*** like take a knee with 40 seconds left in a half and a play or 2 within FG range. Not by being an idiot and passing on a lead when the other team hasn't gotten a first down in 2 hours Did you see the Cowboys game when they ran a play with a few seconds left before the half? Yeah, Tashard Choice fumbled the ball and DeAngelo Hall scored a TD which ended up resulting a win. So don't give me that garbage. Stats show Lovie should've gone for it, he went for it, and he failed. It happens.

Time To Change The Business Model
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 02:54 PM) A few points to make in reply. First, the Giants average payroll from 2006-2008 was $93 million. It was $103 million for the White Sox. The Braves..$92 million. The Angels...$114 million. We consistently spend more money than the Mariners, Braves, or Giants. The only team that you mention that is close to the Sox in total payroll is St. Louis...and they've gotten by with some of the biggest bargains in the game for the last 5+ years. But...if they manage to resign Pujols...they're talking about a $10+ million boost in yearly salary, combined with potentially having guys like Wainright and Carpenter having their salaries go up as well (Carpenter has a $12 million 2012 option, Wainright's contract is backloaded and starts shooting up next year). St Louis though...has had plenty of stinkers when it comes to contracts (Mark Mulder is the first name that comes to mind). When we start getting down to the numbers...in terms of cost per win, the Sox have been in the middle of the pack for the last decade...but the only team that has spent less per win than us and still won a world series is the Marlins (The epic outlier team). This is a good read in terms of placing the Sox management in terms of overall effectiveness. Keep in mind though, the Cardinals play in a hell of a lot easier division than the White Sox almost every year. I'm a Cincy Reds fan(My favorite NL team, and yes, because of Griffey), but I know they don't have it to make it to the World Series. In a good division, they're a 3rd place team. When you get to face the Brewers and Pirates 35 times a year, it's not hard to win the division. The NL as a whole is alot easier. Sure, there are great teams there, but only about 2. From there, it goes downhill really fast. The Sox have a much harder road. They're not the Orioles, but overall, their schedule is a ton harder. Take away my DH and put the Sox in the NL, I guarantee they win any division but the NL East in which they'd have a great shot.

Manny Should Just Retire...
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) Well...to be fair...for the time he's been here, he's been a part of that team's performance...and he failed in the at bat that was perhaps our last chance to salvage the season last night. The Sox lost 9-3. Even if he hits a grand slam there, the Sox lose. He's part of the team's overall performance, but like Ozzie said, he's not a saviour. Even if he went on an LA Dodgers like rampage, this team would still not make the playoffs.

Time To Change The Business Model
Oh please. The sky is falling. I agree the Sox need to draft better and put better resources in Latin America. At the same time, we have, but haven't given them time to pan out yet other than Alexei. I think Viciedo very easily could turn into a Kendry Morales type hitter. Honestly, it would be a super duper dark day if the Sox rolled out a starting lineup of: C Flowers 1B Viciedo 2B Beckham 3B Morel SS Ramirez RF Rios? CF Mitchell LF - Danks That's a pretty awful lineup. Seats would be completely empty, even for series against the Yankees. The team wouldn't recover and we would be strapped with a KC type payroll in a large market. That would be doom.

Eh, it was a move that didn't pay off. I'm happy for trying. I think alot of it has to do with getting re-acclimated with his swing and timing. JMO, but oh well.

True about Doyel. He will blame anything on Illinois. Honestly though, NCAA should come down hard on Pearl. They won't though. Jimmy Collins should come out with regards to him and ask how this is getting little pub considering what Pearl did to the Illini program.

Hitting Delmon Young
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 05:45 PM) I dont know why Ozzie didnt do it. Maybe he didnt want suspensions and such at the moment. I thought for sure he was gonna get drilled when the Sox won 11-0 Because Ozzie said he doesn't order hits anymore. He said he lets the players do it. As you can see, no one on this team minus AJ has any cajones. So no one is going to order a hit.

Cell Phone question
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 07:02 AM) If you root your phone like I did there are apps like SetCPU where you can set up profiles to underclock or overclock your cpu. For instance, when my phone is is sleep mode I set it up to underclock to 245 (lowest possible setting). My battery life has tripled. Care to give advice on how to root an adroid phone. I'm going to get the HTC Evo this weekend.

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (SnB @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 09:52 AM) finally breaking into the 21st century today and getting a smartphone. Droid X or Droid 2? I did a little research and the only thing I could really come up with was, Droid 2 has a smaller screen and a physical keyboard thoughts? Well I'm leaving Verizon, but if I had to choose between the phones myself, I would go with the Droid X. Bigger screen being the main reason. You can't go wrong with either one. Depends on if you need a physical keyboard or if you're okay with typing on the screen. Make sure you definitely get a screen protector though.
