Can we get some odds on Pods' groin surviving this game? Of course, in order for this to even be considered he has to get on base first, which I'm not betting on. -

The gun is reading Sabathia between 88-91, not to mention that Masset probably has to throw 3-4 innings here. -

Tomorrows sports page will be pretty funny if both the Sox and the Cubs keep this up. -
Ozzie said he was uncertain about who should start in LF on opening day....apparently because there is "symbolic significance" in the opening day lineup. Today should have answered all his questions. There is never an excuse to see Pods in against a LHP.

I'll be in Employment Law, in the back row, with MLBtv on, trying to pretend like I'm paying attention.

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) If it's about talent, then we're going to be in a battle with the Twins for 3rd place. We have made some very stupid decisions here, but our competitors have just send Matt Garza down and want Ponson in the rotation. The Indians, meanwhile, signed a guy with no arm and have a the least reliable closer in the AL. The Tigers....well, lets hope something bad happens...

Here's a surprise, Downey picks Cubs and Sox 4th

"Worse yet, big Bobby Jenks appears to have taken a big step backward. If he can't close, who on this team can?" now this is just uninformed. the sox have some problems but thornton and macdougal are perfectly acceptable options to close, and BOOOOOOOONE will have 30 saves in Charlotte this year. -
Sox vs. D-Backs, 3:05 CDT, 3/28/07

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 03:24 PM) Oh yeah. It amazes me how many people think we can just throw "name your pitcher" into the 5th starting role, and at worst, they'll have a 5.50 ERA. The common argument is that the list of guys we have up for contention is better than the busters in 2004. However, the minor league numbers for many of the 2004 busters were just as good as the guys we've been trying out for the 5th starter spot now. I'm amazed that individuals on this board could think that after 2004. But you will make a lot of money if you take people up on that bet. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 03:18 PM) I would still love to bet anyone that McCarthy's ERA will be better this year than whoever is our 5th starter. Is this a highly contested point? -

OVER / UNDER how many times will Hawk say "softly hit" in the first inning this year? 100 times. -
QUOTE(wcw2323 @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 09:28 AM) There's a story in the Tribune regarding the Rockies GM being interested in Charlie. Apparently they have offered up a back up catcher in exchange. That would be great for Charlie and Kenny. Since CO is a National League team, Charlie couldn't come back to haunt him! Charlie could step into their rotation. What in the world are you talking about? This isnt f***ing charity, its baseball. The White Sox have no obligation to move Charlie somewhere else because he didnt make the team this year, especially if its for less than market value. There is a Players Union and a Collective Bargaining Agreement that sets standards for service time. The White Sox are following these guidelines and have every right to hang on to Haeger and keep him wherever they please until he runs out of options.

GAME THREAD: LAAAAAAAAAAA vs Sox, 3:05pm
shawnhillegas replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in 2007 Season in Review
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 04:17 PM) If he didn't have value, then that poll that said he was one of the top 5 pitchers available on the market this offseason was drastically wrong. Yes, I think there may have been other offers with better talent. However, KW thought that he could make Floyd into a top prospect again with a little help from Cooper. Also, with Buehrle losing his velocity and Cotts leaving the team, we needed to acquire another lefty who throws 90 mph. I mean, come on. We all know that boards are places for speculation and rumors, but this debate is going nowhere for either side. I think there might have may have could have might be is all we can say about the trade. Garcia isnt going to have a good year, but neither will Floyd. End of story. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 04:28 PM) I've seen some of the most optimistic fans on this site pick this team to have 84 or 85 wins this year. Right now, Im not much over 85 and I think Im still a fan. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 09:14 PM) Tracey has a 91/92 mph fastball with no control. He won't be making any major league team. Tracey's stuff isn't on the same planet as that of Thornton. That would be like comparing Buehrle's stuff to Santana's stuff. Not that Sean is good, but a 92 mph fastball will get you on a lot of major league bullpens nowadays. Or perhaps you'd prefer Rocky Cherry?
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 07:41 PM) Um, please don't put him on the 25 man roster. This guy needs to prove he can get minor leaguers out, and then he can think of getting major leaguers out in a year. His high fastball is going to go a long way at the Cell. I agree to some extent, but Floyd has spent quite some time in the minors now. Perhaps just spending some time in the big leagues will calm him down and allow him to relax and just throw. Working with Cooper HAS to be better than going to Charlotte. And while Floyds high fastballs will get rocked, so will s***ty knucklers. Haeger did well last year, but I'm not convinced that he will be an effective bullpen option this year. When he is bad, he is going to get lit up in ways only Clif Politte can envision. I think Floyd to the pen is the right move.
-
Wow, Brandon Allen is HUGE!
-
Im really starting to think Floyd should be in the pen and Danks the #5
-
Farmer and Singleton doing a great job today. I dont have much faith in Aardsma or Sisco at this point.

shawnhillegas replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in 2007 Season in Review
Im in Pheonix and went to the game. The Wind was blowing out HARD. Danks didnt look too bad, but Adrian Gonzalez's homer had to go 480 feet. Floyd did not look crisp, but was effective. The offense looked A+. -
I still absolutely refuse to believe that we are bringing Leiber over. If we do, I will have to seriously rethink my stance on KW. Having a position of strength, forfeiting it early, and then making desperation moves to compensate when the s*** hits the fan..... But again, I refuse to believe it will happen.

Well, I certainly think the Sox have the makings of a great pen for years to come. Russell looks like Jeff Nelson.
