  1. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 11:03 AM) I can't say I know their cap situation and how it works as compared to with the Eagles and Browns were detailed in teh story but it seems like the Wheaton and Glennon contracts could impact what would have been able to be rolled over inot this offseason. I was unaware of the rollover options. Makes the bad middle of the road FA signings worse. Although keeping guys on teh field would help. Isn't Ted Phillips the cap guru? It's more that Pace modeled (verbally) his ideal of making the Bears the Ted Thompson Packers which is now showing to be an obsolete model. Hopefully he is moving on and more open to Free Agent risks. Also here is a great Dan Durkin article for those subscribed to the athletic: https://theathletic.com/206764/2018/01/09/w...o-other-option/
  2. Can't say I read this and thought "Ryan Pace has his finger on the pulse on the cutting edge of NFL trends" https://www.theringer.com/2018/1/9/16867564...eagles-patriots
  3. It will be fascinating to see if they aggressively push someone to AA or put a guy down in A kanny like Adolfo while the upper level sorts itself out.
  4. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jan 8, 2018 -> 09:18 PM) This. There are quite a few players beyond the top 10 or even 15 in the White Sox farm system for whom it isn't a stretch to see a productive MLB future. In that regard, the system is very pitching heavy. Just keep in mind they aren't in isolation, they are comparing them to the padres and yankees who have quite a bit more players thanks to a more successful LatAm program to this point. The white sox 15-30 is obviously way better than the mariners or angels, but it's justifying why they may not be top farm despite saying their top 5 are best in game.
  5. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 10:15 AM) I get everything you are saying but it's not really worth arguing over for a week's time. What's done is done. Time to see if it pays off or not. Nothing really to argue over until we see results. Ha, sorry I wasn't actually replying to your question, I meant to be replying to your assessment of the accepted volatility within the trade.
  6. the tank is back. Pretty much seems like trading Mirotic will ensure good tanking.
  7. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 09:35 AM) Is this really worth arguing over for like, a week's time? He will probably suck but it's possible he can be good due to the volatility of relief pitchers. At worst, he sucks and we cut him and he eats some innings. At best, he's decent enough to flip for something. Let it goooooo. Yes. When I like the process of the move I can accept failure. The process here was good, because regardless of anything else I do actually subscribe to the idea that putting a horrible bullpen behind young starting pitchers could cause some bad mental habits. The other side of it is possible trade assets for a better asset than I feel we gave up ($$ + peter).
  8. QUOTE (KnightsOnMintSt @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 09:48 AM) Anyone here live in the area? The Dash could be a really fun team to watch this season. Have the potential to have Robert, Burger, Sheets, Basabe, Adolfo, Rutherford, Cease, Skoug, Fisher, and Call all at the same time this season. I went to a game there last year when I visited Raleigh. Worth the drive from Raleigh for that stadium. When I went, Collins sat and the only notable players was really Basabe (who homered the go ahead run) and Mendick. Awesome stadium, will be really cool with all the players and Vizquel.
  9. Really good ratings last night: https://twitter.com/richarddeitsch/status/950755663231307776
  10. Dang if there was a prop bet for who would have started the Oprah for President thread I probably would have bet on caulfield and lost.
  11. FWIW the royals zips were also brutal and only slightly better by like 1 projected WAR. So, yes fair to say will be hard to do much worse when facing royals/tigers a bunch.
  12. Why would they need to do that when you would already remind them of it in every single post for the next four years? edit: make it 10 years.
  13. Cool, I thought he left for some reason. He was surprisingly good last year so was hoping he could have at it again.
  14. Do we still hold the rights to Infante?
  15. https://theathletic.com//206862/2018/01/09/...d/?redirected=1 Post-coach hire fawning praise Excerpt Not the best written article but the guy worked with him in 2010.
  16. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 8, 2018 -> 10:00 PM) Seemed like only a minor upgrade for him school wise, must’ve been a big pay increase? Fitz did well though, hate saying that. Probably attractive because Fitz is unlikely to ever leave and rarely changes assistants.
  17. Theoretically were they better off trading for Yu Darvish? You can't just take the binary option of hypotheticals. They have been extremely selective of players to spend their prospects on, players they've clearly targeted at the right price, and now are one of the few contenders with a stacked farm and are capable of going after pitchers like Gerrit Cole in a market with few trade contenders and may get him at a great price. They've played conservatively but targeted players they believe can succeed and paid the price they wanted to. I don't want the sox to dave dombrowski themselves as soon as they reach an ALDS.
  18. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jan 8, 2018 -> 03:40 PM) Yea they did get pretty lucky, but it was a "preparation meets opportunity" style break. If you're in position to vulture from clubs looking to just get out from under a veteran contract you should try and take advantage, as they did. correct.
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 8, 2018 -> 02:13 PM) Norris called him “one of the more universally panned prospects” he talked with scouts about. Was this in reference to his most recent performance or when he was left off last year?
  20. We were all super frustrated with the Astros not ponying up for Q last year, but I have to say that I hope we operate exactly like they have when we need to acquire.
  21. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 8, 2018 -> 01:05 PM) Interesting note from the BA chat: Had not read about any knee surgery for him. Great find.
  22. 1) I don't believe that tweet for a second. I think it's completely made up. 2) This is a great read from a KC columnist on Nagy, with a much more believable story on the 2nd half: http://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-colum...e193551879.html The bears did not hire Nagy before interviewing him on sunday, that's crazy.
  23. One thing as a fan that is easier to like in this group from last group, with the giant caveat of when BOBBY BROKE NIKOS FACE is that most of the young and new guys are super supportive of each other in media. There's no cutting down rookies or trying to throw excuses up, they have gotten away from last years crap of Jimmy and Wade throwing rooks under the bus and Rondo stepping up for them. Example: K.C. Johnson ‏ Verified account @KCJHoop 17m17 minutes ago More Kris Dunn, on whether it will be an adjustment for Bulls when Zach LaVine returns: "Zach is not a selfish player. He takes the right shots. If he sees somebody open, he’s going to pass the ball. It’s all about playing the right way."
  24. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 8, 2018 -> 12:29 PM) Nagy looks like he's Jason Statham's cousin. Seems good, imo
