Like, 4th and 5th.It's funny how all of our actual moves show a team willing to just grow from within. BUt all of our rumored moves show a team desperately about to claw to 70 wins. Edit: I don't think we are actually at all interested as seen by signing MiGo to "shore up" our pitching.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 03:33 PM) I'm not complaining but man the players really need to get their s*** together in the next CBA negotiations. No kidding. Obviously hindsight 20/20 but the trade off of getting rid of the 1st round compensation in return for a harder luxury tax was not worth it. The protected players are still not getting signed and...nobody is getting signed.

Well, White was 3 years ago. And you are right about health. The assumption could be that we are drafting players with medical flags that other teams are rooting out, could be our training staff. To me drafts have been pretty good the guy just needs more picks.
-
Maybe I'm crazy but I feel like his hit percentage his last 2 drafts are exactly what he needs again.

This is a nice 5 million dollar gift for the white sox.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 10:43 AM) What is the cost of that deal? Do you make a deal to protect DACA today but that also reduces legal immigration for racist reasons while also funding a border wall? What do you do about the cruel uprooting and splitting of families on a mass scale that's going to happen regardless of DACA? I think you go with A, fake fight against money for wall but push as much money into it as possible to get DACA passed with agreed upon immigration levels that are slightly decreased but not racist. Post passing, the wall will take forever to build and just hope you get a wave election and divert the resources elsewhere. BUt I doubt any cuts to ICE will happen and there's not much you can do on homeland security policy for now.
-
Well heres a question: - Do you make a deal with a racist president to protect that status of some vulnerable minorities at the cost of setting policy with the worst person possible OR - do you cut off talks with a racist president and risk cruel uprooting and splitting of families on a mass scale

Fun conversation.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 10:07 AM) No, but the idea that "THIS" will somehow shake something loose...not going to happen. If you didn't understand who this person is before now, it's because you deliberately don't want to. Again, wasn't stating this was a turning point or would shake something loose. I'm saying having a president who openly demeans certain minority races and religions is rare (or the favorite "not normal") even when you go back historically to times where status quo was much more more racist and bigoted. My point was that I think even keeping lip service that all groups are equal and welcome is important even if its papering over policy which is doing the opposite. I'm hoping it doesn't lead to much more dramatic backsliding on rights since he is anchoring conversation to these despicable ends. Presidents words are still important even when people are fatigued by his nonsense.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 09:57 AM) Because nothing he's done or said so far has made that obvious or apparent. There's a reason why Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell, the people every Republican House and Senate voter have supported indirectly, have issued no statement yet. I did not state that he hadn't done or said anything prior to hide his intent anywhere in that post.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 09:44 AM) That's why I think this really is more of an eat some innings than flip candidate. Like you said, he isn't going to be worth much more than he was when they traded him when he was on a roll, and he netted a 21 year old with a .588 OPS in high A. I would think if you wanted to just buy him from Texas, it wouldn't cost you anywhere near what Gonzalez will be paid. So he must be a good influence, and the probably hope he can eat some innings. And I do think we'll see some vet camp signee. There really aren't interesting candidates aside from Tillman. I do wish we would have signed Eovaldi last year. He would have been perfect to try in rotation and then be a dynamite Relief candidate if we needed room.

I'm reading the Chernow Grant biography now. I do recommend it even if you've read Grant's memoirs, the additional context and investigation is great. One thing that struck me going through all we are going through now, is how Andrew Johnson was considered shockingly racist at the time. Like even though it was a time where the government was coming out of legalized slavery and killing American Indians, there was still an expectation that the president act like he spoke for all people. Not sure what point is with that but the whole "it was different back then" sentiment, it wasn't that different and there was always a group fighting for decency and equality that kept presidents from saying the quiet parts loud. I've seen some takeaways that it could be good he is showing the real intent behind such policies, that it can't be hid behind anymore, but I was with a coworker whose parents were immigrants from Pakistan when this broke and they were shook. Not even a country listed, but they are constantly fighting the idea that they are unwelcome or not American (they are American). The symbolism of the office and country matters even if actions are hypocritical to it. I don't know.

I'll make sure to google harder next time.

Reince Priebus was one of the big early leakers.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 08:36 AM) If Arians is that close, would be great to bring him in, in Chidress role for the defense next year. Would love to see Chidress and Arians both have some sort of supporting role. I am so confused.

Arizona's d is very talented, but yeah he's a guy that if you lose fangio and replace him with that you take a win. Big benefit to fangio is head coaching has passed him by, with this guy you are prone to losing him if he does well.
-
I mean when we traded Miguel he had a pretty decent run of starts and he netted us DaQuan Forbes whom I didn't even remember until I googled it. These flip projects aren't that exciting to me. Seems better to catch lightning in a bottle for bullpen.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 07:52 PM) The guys with a little more upside may be looking for more money - a number of teams have been interested in Tillman, for example. When it comes down to it, the return for any of these guys will be pretty small if they're traded, and I can't begrudge the team for going with a guy they're comfortable with. The main priority is not to be able to trade the guy for a huge return, it's to turn the 4 rookies/semi rookies we'll have up this year + Rodon into a dominant rotation. There's way more talent there already than anything we'll possibly get back for moving any of those guys. Gonzalez gives us a guy that we know can eat some innings, that knows his role, and that won't be in the way when beautiful, beautiful Kopech finally arrives. Your last sentence is right. Think they definitely wanted a decent guy that they didn't have qualms about DFA'ing when the time came.

Fangio lives in California. Not that surprised he’s interested in AZ.

MiGo also had some shoulder fatigue from all of his cutters. He may be a candidate to use 10 day DL and bring like danish back and forth from charlotte if they don't like doing it to Fulmer.
