  1. I do wonder if you could just keep Joel Booker as a 4th and try to use the DH as much as possible to find at bats while this is sorted out. I agree with being aggressive with Fisher, and ideally Call has a hot start and you can be aggressive with him.
  2. QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 02:17 PM) Pretty sure the plan is to start Kopech down in AA/AAA. Rondon is a huge ??? from a health standpoint. Shields looked done last year. The last thing I want to do is burn through our young guys service time playing them in meaningless games both Fulmer and Giolito were able to preserve an extra year by not calling them up at the beginning of the season. Kopech finished in AAA so he'll start in AAA. We'll certainly throw some camp invites out to vets.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 02:06 PM) And possibly Covey. Is Danish mostly viewed as a reliever right now? YEah but when he has been in Charlotte he's been a starter so I assume they keep that up.
  4. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:51 PM) Props to the Bulls and their FO for putting together the Mom's trip. I know some teams in the NHL do it (Blackhawks of course were one of the firsts to do it) but being the first NBA team to do that (and judging by their snapchats, players LOVED it) I can see other teams copying it. Just a fantastic idea. The notes on this from the athletic were great. Sounded like a fun experience.
  5. And yet the Red Sox couldn't find power for their lives last year, re-signed Moreland who was a part of that, and who behind Martinez would provide it?
  6. I mean most of the AA guys are gonna move up right? Kopech, Stephens Guerrero Adams. Then you have danish possibly or some minor league fa
  7. I wouldn't be surprised if this is our last big move until we grab some remaining vet pitchers on minor league deals right before spring training.
  8. There is honestly nothing cooler than when players put on a show at MSG. In all other settings New York fans are the worst, but damn if knicks fans don't love watching the best players play.
  9. It just underscores how much getting into that top 4 could help jumpstart a legitimate rebuild. Unless we get uber lucky and get Ayton or Bagley, I'd like to see a run at Capela. Most combinations of the draft make sense with re-signing Lavine and going hard at Capela, then nurkic. Both are RFAs, nurkic is unlikely to get unmatched.
  10. With this ridiculous offseason I'm surprised people are still anti-player position and pro-front office. These players just worked for pittance relative to their worth for 6 years, now they are told they are too old to pay. I hope JD takes a good sum of the healthy profits from the Red Sox and then continues to be a great power hitter.
  11. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 11:08 AM) Somewhat surprised he is getting a major league deal as well, but hard to be that upset when we need veteran stability in the rotation. Does Covey get cut? Covey's ability to be either a bad starting pitcher or bad reliever makes him valuable unfortunately. Totally fleeced the rangers getting both Forbes AND miguel for life.
  12. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 09:55 AM) He hasn't been in our organization since July. You can never be too careful.
  13. I am somewhat, somewhat surprised he got an MLB deal not gonna lie. Only complaining due to 40 man.

  15. I will talk myself into any positional coach hire, but the Tucker hire required just hoping that his top ten defense from Cleveland was what we were getting and not his pretty bad run from jacksonville he was just leaving. It's okay to be neutral on Helfrich, but it's a lot easier when he's not actually calling the plays anyway. And to me the hire isn't that he is installing the Oregon offense. But my impression is he has a rep as a teacher and a QB focused coach, and I love giving trubisky as many resources as possible.
  16. If it means getting Everth Cabrera out of organization it's a great move.
  17. I'm especially high on the Helfrich hire because of its role. Helfrich isn't calling the plays, but he'll help install the offense. And from my extensive research into his wikipedia, seems like thats what his specialty is: teaching these great offenses from Koetter to Kelly to these players.
  18. But also I think it's more impressive just because Nagy is more of a wildcard being younger, and not knowing what mix of coaches he'd sign on. Too many vets and i'd be worried he'd just let them run over him. But Helfrich is really interesting to me.
  19. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 09:25 AM) The only thing that worries me is that there is way too much high praise of every hire the Bears have had so far. It cant all be true can it? I thought Fox's first staff was really good too, and it was. Just fell apart with Gase leaving. I don't think we had particularly bad oline/wr/rb coaches or anything, just made a bad hire in Loggains who maybe didn't feel comfortable asserting a more creative offense with Fox. But I don't think Cleveland fans were that crazy about the ST coordinator, but we thought Decamillis was trash and the broncos looked amazing on ST in the superbowl. Unless you are toub, you are held to your roster imo.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 11:07 PM) Given the young players who have developed / shown...does anyone think Paul George would be a good fit? Do the Bulls try making a run at George? Thinking out loud here. Or do they wait one more off-season? I recognize the Paul George is a good player but he is by far my least favorite good player around. And a team where he is the best player just...meh to me.
  21. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 08:52 AM) The Bear offense should have no excuse to not be extremely dynamic next season. Not that they are certain to be great but at the very least they should have a dynamic mix and creativity. One would think they will really look to add some playmakers on offense through the draft and FA but they still need parts on D too. As excited as I am about the staff that is being put together they still have a ways to go in building a real contender. I'm feeling great right now. Do you remember when we played the 49ers, and we gave em the Fangio special not letting them int he end zone but they were dominating us in yards? The 49ers have a bad WR core, but they were consistently open against us. We aren't a bad D. It was scheme. They finally had a QB smart enough to go through the reads and get it to the players. So yeah I expect a better WR core but I also expect a better offense in general just by using numbers to get guys open.
  22. Officially official. Enjoying our new resident Bears insider chisoxfn!
  23. Learning that having connections from previous jobs not as big of a deal, I guess most of these guys coming from mutual connection through his agent. Thanks former bear Trace Armstrong! Really liking this staff so far. Bizarrely full of former bear coaches ha
  24. Bulls win. Dunn was horrendous but Lauri dropped 33 on the knicks.
