  1. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 5, 2018 -> 01:33 PM) Given some of the other reports about Eloy's defense and arm, nice to see here that his arm is given a 60 grade and that Longenhagen thinks he has enough athleticism to play a solid RF. Yeah he has been more bullish on his defense than others, and I value that because he was at places like instructs recently getting in-person looks. Maybe he emphasizes more that he sees players, but with the exception of the BA guys, it does seem like people like Law and Callis rely more on deciphering scout opinions than getting looks. I like getting both, but for defense it's nice to know this came from someone who has watched him play a bit. And one thing to add is in podcasts EL seems to like Burger offensively. He thinks he'll be a 1b but doesn't dismiss that he could stick at 3b.
  2. Dunning listed as "in consideration" and I would imagine that means he was pegged with a 50 FV. Nice Robert write-up, and it's interesting reading the Collins stuff. Despite the handwringing here, seems like scouts believe in that bat profile making the majors. Looks like in ranking for pitchers they had a preference for control, but it's also kinda wild seeing Burdi there, considering I doubt many on this board had him in top 10.
  3. Kevin Fishbain ‏ @kfishbain 2m2 minutes ago More Per @caplannfl, the Bears will hire Brad Childress as an offensive consultant. The Aurora native (Marmion Academy and EIU grad) and former Vikings head coach has been with Nagy in KC since 2013. Like getting all the experience you can get. Childress had retired, this is probably going to be pretty light but nice to see he'll have a guy this experienced to run things like installation and stuff by.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 5, 2018 -> 12:09 PM) But the in person reports for him were awful according to KLaw. Very weak contact and definitely not a CF. Ok so that doesn't really contradict what I said. Longenhagen for instance scouted him last august. Talked about how it looked like he was almost trying to be a singles hitter so even if he got more powerful it may not lead to that much different results. And that sounds similar to how Rutherford talks about it. Counter that with Burger who was hitting way too many grounders and spent the offseason trying to never hit a groundball. That said, when you hear the BA guys, or fangraphs, or others talk about him they still see a player with a sweet lefthanded swing that could figure it out, and that in winston-salem has the perfect place to build some confidence. I guess it just depends how fatalistic you are (don't answer fathom). Do you have a guy in Rutherford who has shown to have no talent and is imploding? No, but you have a guy that needs to show a big adjustment, so he'll get docked until he does. He's not a guy that just needs to keep doing what he's doing, he needs to improve. So until he does it's not really that exciting to me that he's in the top 100.
  5. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Feb 5, 2018 -> 10:54 AM) I know development isn't linear, but man, I would be very interested to see how comparable prospects to Rutherford ended up faring. I don't see how his lack of production and extreme GB profile shouldn't be setting off alarm bells. I think the in person reports see a kid who likes spraying the ball over the field which has caused the GB rate. If he fills out and changes approach he could unlock his potential.
  6. On Cubs zips it has Quintana for 5 WAR which i find interesting. Never had more than 4 previously.
  7. https://www.theringer.com/nba/2018/2/5/1697...a-max-contracts A great read on how the nba could see the same downward pressures the MLB is seeing now very soon. And this could mean very good things for bulls if they got their core right, though have to say I'm starting to gulp at giving lavine a max.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 5, 2018 -> 09:37 AM) There's been multiple articles the past two weeks about how the Eagles use analytics and win expectancy in their 4th won decision and are far more aggressive than most teams who are too scared of the Monday Morning QB. Anytime they get to midfield, as early as 2nd down, someone will call up from the booth and say, 4th and 4 or less, go for it, 5-8 yards, your call, anything higher then punt. Besides the win expectancy, it helps your play calling so much. If you know you are going for it on 4th down, you can call so many different plays 3rd down and keep the defense on their feet. Given how valuable wins are in the NFL, it's still crazy that so few teams do that and end up leaving potential wins on the field. And with how many other things a coach has to keep track of in a game.
  9. JT has a good backlog, which made it seem okay, but the way they cut up those songs was terrible, so much pumped through each song you couldn't make out what the hell was happening.
  10. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Feb 5, 2018 -> 09:17 AM) Burger eh? Highest publication on him I've seen. weird inverse of everyone else where they like our depth but hit our high impact depth (relatively lower on top guys, higher on next tier)
  11. I miss commercials were just like "haha the goose drinks soda" and not "cancer is terrible, cocacola is there to support you with cancer"
  12. List https://www.baseballprospectus.com/prospect...r-eloy-jimenez/ (6) Eloy (17) Kopech (40) Hansen (47) Cease (55) Robert (84) Burger (89) Dunning (90) Rutherford
  13. I was really glad Pederson coached that so aggressively and won. He needed every one of those extra points other coaches would have lost for the sake of "Staying in the game". Against a team like the patriots you have to maximize your scoring drives and try to do whatever possible to get ahead of their last drive. So much of the armchair coaching on important plays is result plays. Pass falls incomplete? "Shoulda run"! Run stopped short. "Shoulda passed!". But nothing more than "take the points!" and field position homers scream if a sound decision to go for it ends up not coming through. Had he called that aggressively and lost each one, woulda been real bad for a while.
  14. Uh if he went pro that would suck hard. Your mizzou homerdom needs calibrating.
  15. I started following dabearsblog for the bears coaching search which was good but oh my god this “the eagles should trade Wentz if the eagles win the super bowl” is the dumbest series of arguments ever.
  16. Would have been real hard for mizzou to be more than a 50/50 bubble team without that win. Huge. Now if a certain guy could come back it would be great. End of games without a ball handler is torture.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 3, 2018 -> 01:02 AM) We sign Holland, we end up one or two spots away in the first round from drafting another Benintendi...creating the need to spend yet another $150-175 million (or Yelich equivalent talent load) on a premiere free agent. In that draft we could have just taken Happ.
  18. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 05:42 PM) I don't want to get rid of them, I just want us to get them Now that the draft and international are completely capped, I think they should be scrapped.
  19. I think the craziest thing is the Orioles are letting him play SS
  20. Oh, yeah I guess that makes sense.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 02:11 PM) Dow down 600+. VIX almost to 18 for the first time in forever. I was actually coming in here to ask about the VIX. Does the VIX always correspond so closely (timewise) to the dropoff? How forward looking is it?
  22. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 02:24 PM) Maybe. I believe Infante is older than both of those guys though as well. I guess that doesn't really matter though. It's not a big deal, but he was pretty good last year except for walks and the other guys are already on a minors deal.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 11:31 AM) Per Woj: Source: Full protections on New Orleans' 2018 first-round pick to Chicago in Mirotic deal: 2018: top 5; 2019: top 8; 2020: top 10; 2021: top 9. If somehow it still isn't conveyed to Bulls in 2021, it becomes a second-round pick in each of 2022 and 2023. This is pretty typical but as a fan I get so frustrated by NBA protections. In other sports, it seems like protections would go down as time goes on. You get player now, but if they don't work out like expected you can keep pick, but eventually I get the pick. In the NBA it's like I get to keep pick if we lose too much, but also next year if we lose slightly less, but also the year after that if we lose the same amount, and if we never fit in that window...well deals off. Oh I mean I will have gotten the value from you, but sorry, you get nothing. Or at the very least I would just demand "if pick is still in top 10 by 2020, then Chicago has right to swap picks, if no swap, THEN 2 second rounders" Just stupid imo.
  24. I think only one of Gomez and Rondon make it to start, and they let Infante start out again.
  25. I posted this elsewhere but interesting nonetheless, Baseball America said that Zevala was actually behind Collins in catching ability. Now that conflicts with Futuresox who said he's average, but fair to say that for as much as we talk about the work collins needs to do, so does Seby.
