  1. Players I'm less concerned about getting primary CF reps: Basabe Gonzalez And that may be poor thinking with Gonzalez. Birmingham is the easiest one to figure out. I do think Jimenez / Polo / Fisher is right, but polo is one player they could push up. I just don't think they have a CFer ready to push him. W/S I think will be Basabe / Rutherford / Adolfo / 4th Booker. I'm actually like 90% here. The problem I have is this really sets up Basabe to be pushed aggressively or demoted? If he's having a really rough first 2 months and Robert is ready, you could theoretically move him down to jumpstart him. But what if he's at like a .250/.310/.410 slash line...do you move him up? Birminham will destroy that power. Kanny the hard part is the college bats from later rounds. Call needs to show he's back, imo. Robert / Gonzalez / Call and Dedelow at DH. Destino you start at extended. This seems to be okay to me. But it has problems I don't like. Kanny has 3 players that in a normal situation are likely for promotions after the draft, while W-S has 3 age appropriate players that realistically could stay there all year. This is a lot of pressure on the group. But maybe that makes for good results. We haven't really had this before.
  2. Did anything happen after Fuller said he wasn't getting traded? edit: here's my answer Kendall Fuller‏Verified account @KeFu11er Follow Follow @KeFu11er More Me on Twitter after tweeting all that then finding out i got traded!
  3. When I read it I figured it meant the 1st rounder is the best asset in deal not Mirotic so he can use it to dump more salary.
  4. I feel like they’d just keep destino in extended until he has a spot.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 04:41 PM) So who is the guy you push to AA to alleviate the overcrowding at the A levels? Fisher imo
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 03:51 PM) Seise? Good call, they both signed for same amount. I think you got it.
  7. Proof will be in the pudding, but I have really liked Getz as an interview. Good stuff on Luis Gonzalez too. I probably will not be able to figure out who the HSer was who they thought would fall as there was 9 picked between the end of first and the sox pick (out of 18). Triston Lutz signed for 2.2 mill so maybe that was the price they thought they had space for. Still kinda surprised Gavin was such an overslot signing, especially since others thought he went kinda high.
  8. if it's not lottery protected I like it. I could see pelis lose steam in second half.
  9. They got an unprotected lottery pick and a second round pick, a flyer on an all star point guard and Jae Crowder, who sucks now but clearly seemed to be an in-his-prime fairly cheap 14 and 6 guy. And Zizic. Unprotected 1st rounders that are likely top 10 are incredibly valuable. That's not next to nothing.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 02:59 PM) One question I would love to hear asked one of these days is for the guys who are in management... how much studying of players and the system do they do before Soxfest to be ready for fan questions. It would be interesting to hear was Hahn, Hoestetler, Getz, etc had to say about it. I mean I know the system off of the top of their head, but do they all have THAT amount of detail at their finger trips, or are there some guys they have to look up ahead of time? From his reputation I don't think Fabian needs to do any studying. For reference, Getz was asked about Trey Michalzewski (not even looking up spelling ) and he gave an answer about how they thought it may help to re-engage him on defense by letting him try more 2b and SS, and he reminded him of some Giants player that played better when he was allowed to show more versatility. Now from the way he talks about Robert it does seem like DSL is far off for them too. I do wonder if organizationally Paddy has more ownership over things like moving up those players to stateside .
  11. Getz was very impressive at soxfest. Last year I went in nervous about him, and then he was so new he was speaking hypothetically and I left still kinda nervous. But this year he was taking almost every question, had specific info on every player he was asked about. He was pretty conservative in comments, the gist is that everyone is working on specific things and that professional baseball is hard, but I was impressed at least from an interview standpoint.
  12. The Cavs have likely: - One last hurrah for 2018 AND - A rebuild coming up in 2019 That trade to me neither obviously pushes them over the edge in 2018 and also gives a big blow to a rebuild by losing a lotto pick. Maybe they could then afford getting avery bradley to get some defensive help if it works contractually but I don't know why that trade makes sense.
  13. I do think the recent moves make us more likely to be above KC. Our bullpen will not be as bad as our initial zips, KC's will be a little worse. But using astros more as illustrative of how much talent the top teams have accumulated. I think we used to say 40 was playoff team, now its more like 45.
  14. The astros have a projected 35 more WAR on their roster than the white sox. *gulp* https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2018-zips-p...houston-astros/
  15. I don't think there will be a standard "x amount of time" considering it's a concussion. I'd guess another week but maybe longer.
  16. I don't listen to the score that often but when I do I hear the white sox discussed often, maybe just good chance. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  17. Throughout this offseason we have had numerous freakouts that the sox were going to take a hit from their rebuild coffers for short-term gains. Yet none of those moves happened, and all we've done is sign miguel gonzalez and wellington castillo. The best prospect we traded was Jake Peter. I think at this point I feel safe in saying they are going through with the rebuild. They I'm sure are calling people but at this point, you have to believe more than anything the white sox are a team others are using as leverage in the trade process.
  18. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 02:58 AM) It doesn't work for every guy of course but I think it is no coincidence that we see more late breakout players and almost all of them have gotten input from sources outside the game. Here is s list of guys of that mold -justin Turner -daniel Murphy -josh Donaldson -chris Taylor -aaron judge (he recently credited a guy I know from the internet for his success - the the dude is a giant asshole who insults anyone and got banned from about every forum but apparently he worked with judge, kingery and ian happ who all had great years) Sure it is no guarantee that it works, but conventional hitting coaching basically has a play it save and don't ruin the top guys philosophy. Yonder Alonso too right?
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 27, 2018 -> 06:56 AM) No thanks on Broxton. I think the biggest takeaway from what Stearns is doing is that strikeouts haven’t been valued appropriately. Dude just traded three prospects with swing & miss concerns for a high contact hitter. He just signed another high contact hitter to allow him to potentially trade two other ones with swing & miss issues in Santana & Phillips. In isolation a K may be no different than any other out, but once you add context in and group a bunch of these players together it can start impacting your offensive production. Still too early to say what our offensive core will look like when it comes to strikeouts, but I’d rather not add a guy who strikes out 30% of the time this early in the process. This is what Astros did last year.
  20. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 04:02 PM) I always feel like Fangraphs is more pessimistic on players than other systems. How are Cease and Hansen FV 45 prospects? Eh, everyone is on the same scale though. IMO mlb pipeline has major grade inflation.
  21. Has fangraphs done their 2018 yet? I don't think they have.
  22. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 03:10 PM) After Thames amazing April/May last year, he was pretty much worthless. I find it hard to believe he is on their opening day roster. He was still a 104 wrc+ player in the second half so not worthless but not a player you don't upgrade from. edit: in the second half, first half he was v good.
