  1. Good point. I could be sold on taking college player at lower price and then getting a 2nd and 3rd rounder for HS. But recently every college player we think will be a discount is full slot or over (ala Sheets)
  2. comps are so silly. All you are going to get for Hansen is some major leaguer that's really tall, Jimenez a big power hitter, Kopech someone that throws hard, and Dunning somebody that wears glasses. Nobody knows what Robert really looks like yet on this board at least. But he'll probably get comped to a Cuban.
  3. Mizzou is doing well which means basketball is about to end: https://sports.yahoo.com/sources-college-ho...-224417174.html To be quite honest, feels like things will just change to make the behavior more regulated. It won't stop.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 10:08 AM) If Yolmers agent was asking for a higher number than means they were closer than $250k in negotiations. That makes it worse, as they weren't $250k apart, maybe they were $100k or $150k. Hahn is possibly lying, but what you are implying is not what it seems like: "“Not one iota,” Hahn said when asked if there had been a shift, before suggesting it was the approach of Sanchez and Garcia's agents that may have changed. “We negotiated these deals the exact same way we've negotiated, I don't know, 70-plus of these things going back over the last 17 years we've settled. This year, for whatever reason when we were dealing with these agents, we didn't receive offers that even looked like their filing numbers. So, you wind up in a hearing room.” The implication from Hahn's statement is that Sanchez and Garcia's agents asked for figures significantly above what they wound up filing at, which could also be read as them lowering their ask from negotiation in order to increase their odds of winning in court."
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 09:42 AM) So that means the gap was even narrowing than $250k for Yolmer? That makes it worse, not better in his case. No, it means when they were negotiating Yolmer's agent was giving them a higher number, then they went with a lower number to the arbitrator that they thought could win.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 10:03 AM) IN reaction to that, building increased and thousands of new units will be released causing both demand and pricing to fall. That's not a bubble though, that's responding to demand. We shouldn't manufacture housing shortages to boost up prices.
  7. "The class looks strong right now, the deepest overall since 2011, although the upper tier is less certain right now and heavier on the high school talent some teams have shied away from in recent drafts." I have to keep reminding myself this. Every poor write-up I shake my fist at the sky.
  8. QUOTE (danman31 @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 04:51 PM) Yeah, Robertson's workload is a problem, but also Geist just isn't a very strong ballhandler. I'm also terrified for next year because Barnett and Robertson will be gone. Gonna need to find some 3-point shooters to survive in Cuonzo's system. Might be a return to mediocrity next year, although Jontay/Tilmon inside could be dominant as they continue to improve. I'm not that concerned about Robertson. He was a horse at Cannisius too, is a senior, and is playing only 2 games a week. Next year will be a lot different though. From what it sounds like players like kj santos should be able to shoot the three. I haven't heard watson is bad from 3 but you never now, but hopefully he can drive, since we don't have any wing that goes to the rim. If they have Jontay and Tilmon not getting in foul trouble, and an offense that goes through JOntay, could be good. Worth remembering that this team has made a near 200 spot jump in kenpom's offensive ratings under Cuonzo and Cornell mann. They get stagnant but this is not the same offense he was running at cal.
  9. The podcast is helpful listening for context to this list, came out a few weeks ago: https://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/whit...00DfLYcBvjKT.97 They mention as a throwaway line that Zevala is behind Collins defensively. They aren't particularly high on anyone after our top ten, but mention Adolfo. That's one of those things about the rankings, Adolfo is probably the one stnadout they'll talk about in that latter tier, but clearly the ranking is a sign of the volatility with him.
  10. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 09:44 PM) I am calling it... 2018, the year of Mickey Moniak I hope so. Seems like this has been a bad decade for #1 overall picks, hasn't it?
  11. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 13, 2018 -> 02:28 PM) Yep. The last 4 years are like the years on Heyward's contract. Darvish will only take them if he plays poorly and the Cubs will be stuck with them if he plays poorly. Except Heyward was to be in his 20s getting his second big contract, Darvish will be 33. And a pitcher.
  12. According to Hahn in the athletic, he implies the players filed for numbers lower than they were giving the White Sox.
  13. SOSA Surprised Adams is that high.
  14. Woo hoo, official <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8">
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 09:42 AM) I will have to downgrade this article for not containing any Hamilton/Burr references with their profiles right next to each other. But it does indeed have one.
  16. Something I've struggled with, do markets freak out more at the prospect of over 2% inflation or how the Fed will react to going over 2% inflation?
  17. QUOTE (danman31 @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 02:18 AM) Another near miss against A&M. This one was a little cleaner at the finish, but only a little. Mizzou is gonna be in barring a 1-5 finish. A win Saturday at LSU probably gets them ranked. They've come a long way in one year and Michael Porter Jr. has played two minutes. Not bad at all. A 5 game conference winning streak is incredible considering “please just one conference win?” Had become the norm. Losing two point guards has exacerbated end of game issues, but something to be said for just having a set 8 man rotation where players know they have no help and need to go out and perform...and then do it too.
  18. Beckham was a shortstop in college. No idea what your response has to do with moving corner guys to up the middle positions.
  19. Great news. I hope he can get to another contract.
  20. Trib article is heartbreaking: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/b...0213-story.html I don't think the commander started it. I think he just heard on radio from another team that was going to do a street stop and cornered them on run. Was off duty.
  21. No I'm with Jason. In baseball they play a bunch of young players, get rid of their vets. But they are playing. This sitting half your team garbage is crap. It's the way NBA teams tank that is so much more obnoxious. No one is saying they shouldn't try and be bad, but these teams don't even care about the development of any of the pieces and would just not play the rest of the sesaon. It should be punished.
  22. Yeah this is a strong group of arms. Would be really interesting if it panned out as they expect. You can see with some of the emerging teams like the cubs, they had to pay out a ton to build a bullpen. Either we have a lot of great depth and build a great bullpen or can swap them for needed pieces. We'll see if this becomes a thing.
  23. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 13, 2018 -> 08:42 AM) So if the Bulls fall back a bit and say they get the 9 and 14 as an example. Any teams in front of us that would trade their pick for both of those? Am I stewpid? Unfortunately I think most front offices are fairly smart about valuing these guys now (especially since mid-level guys seem to get max deals), and the days of trading decent vets for a pick are gone.
  24. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Feb 12, 2018 -> 11:20 PM) I don't mind Liberatore, but I'm a bit risk averse with prep pitching. The fact that McClanahan had his TJ freshman year, than came back his sophomore year with even better stuff and posted the numbers he did excites me. I see a bit of Sale in him as well, especially with that build. All things being equal I'd prefer a position player but I'll be following McClanahan closely this season. Yeah I'm nervous on this draft at the moment, hoping some position players shoot up draft in the spring. I like Liberatore and this isn't a reason not to draft him but man that writeup sounds like Brady Aiken.
  25. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Feb 13, 2018 -> 03:56 AM) You're assuming we forget how to develop high draft pick starting pitchers. That's always been this team's bread and butter and I don't see it changing as long as key personnel remain in place. Not sure Rodon and Fulmer are a feather in our cap at the moment.
