  1. Also since Blackmon's agent is apparently terrible he may be good to negotiate with if you are rick hah.
  2. This is an awesome article detailing the difference between the warriors and rockets offenses: https://theathletic.com/213642/2018/01/19/t...listic-matchup/ The TL:DR, the warriors are not actually in a system that prefers the 3, it just does so because it has prolific 3 point shooters. They shoot a lot of midrange, and when steph goes off the court their 3 pt shots drop. The rockets actively want 3s and remove all midrange shots. The rockets stuff I think is fairly well known, but the detailing of the warriors system was pretty interesting.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 06:39 PM) Adam Jones, Charlie Blackmon, and AJ Pollock are all Free Agents next offseason. If CF remains a need, we have the money. If our offense looks good, Jones would be a really nice vet player to have, but it would have to be for corner OF and that move would need to show a plus defense from him. His decline has been real but he's such a good teammate and veteran, if anyone could have a late career rebirth on a competitive team I'd really hope it would be him.
  4. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 05:39 PM) Agree with this. We have pitching depth, but #1 & #2 starters aren’t easy to come by. Hansen has that type of potential and we’re going to need it if god forbid Rodon never takes that next step or Giolito & Lopez settle in as #3 types (or worse). And I personally don’t think OF should be an area of priorization right now. I have a ton of confidence in Jimenez & Robert becoming quality major leaguers if not legit superstars. Just need one more and we have quite a few interesting prospects plus a guy in Nicky Delmonico that I think will surprise a lot of people next year. I know talents like Yelich aren’t always readily available, but I’d rather see what we have in-house in 2018 and go shopping the following offseason if need be, preferably with cash instead of prospects if at all possible. I've been agnostic of this but mostly against on the assumed cost. But this is exactly right. Hopefully soon we will be in the position to buy, and judging by the last few years, pitching has been much harder to acquire than bats.
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 03:08 PM) This comes across as a Gordon Beckham quote. Ha, too on the nose.
  6. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 11:36 AM) I have a request. I can't view Twitter at work (where I view Soxtalk). Can people copy/paste Twitter comments etc here, instead of just the link - please? Sorry I will try to do this. When I post the link it's usually because I'm on a phone and it's easier.
  7. The thing that gets lost in the student gawking is it is incredibly impressive how public schools in places like Houston take students from many dozens of different countries, languages and cultures, assimilate them and educate them to the high level they do. US public schools do this all the time.
  8. They'll study and then apply their studies to a field? Why doesn't America do this!
  9. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 09:03 AM) My personal guess is that it will land on FM radio. Just a hunch. I was thinking the same thing. Hope not but woulnd't be surprised.
  10. "No respect, kids are addicted to mobile phones or iPads and can focus for 10-15 minutes tops and are also expected to double as counselors because parents no longer parent...but you have succeeded in illuminating why China is winning the real trade war. Parents and society respect teachers and education, period. All parents here are willing to spend $15-30,000 per year for high school and SAT training centers" And then send their kids to an American university.
  11. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 11:42 PM) Huh? He says in the article he grew an inch and a half over the winter.
  12. QUOTE (Scoots @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 02:55 PM) I would say San Diego is probably an upgrade in weather compared to Denver no? Unless you are just comparing those two to the other two I think Denver's weather is great so it's mostly the first two to the last two. And probably more scenery than weather.
  13. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 01:44 PM) Congrats????Moving from coverage of the White Sox to the Twins sounds like a step down to me................................. Ha, and he's gone from i think denver to san diego to chicago to minnesota. Quite the weather downgrades.
  14. I am a tribune subscriber for their news, as a kid I would run for the sports section. They basically have sullivan and kane (she moved I think) doing double duty for all games. They have the access for after game quotes, but are so stretched thin they will be completely out of any interesting analysis or team rumors. DVS at the sun times does a better job. But it's like, yes, there is huge value to being in locker room and getting a feel for being there every day. But only if you can step back and put the pieces together. And that's the more interesting part. With Hayes gone, the only guy really doing both is Fegan and Merkin does a pretty good job too from a certain view.
  15. I also loved this Seby Zevala tidbit, laughed out loud: "“Z, last year when we had him in camp, it's kinda funny,” Renteria said. “We were going to pinch run him, and I said 'Can you run?' and he said 'I'm the best baserunner in the organization' and I said 'That's pretty good, so I think we'll use you as a pinch runner.'”"
  16. https://theathletic.com/214952/2018/01/18/w...backs-and-more/ There's so much in here I don't know where to start. But Blake Rutherford grew an inch and a half at 21?
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 12:02 PM) Fixing the hitch is what will make or break him. The strike zone judgment is elite, just needs to put the bat on the ball better. I kinda disagree. Actually being a catcher is what will make or break him. Otherwise he could be Omar Narvaez with power.
  18. saw that, congrats to Dan!
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 08:38 AM) I always have a hard time on these topics because I don't know who the 30 is, in this case, to be outside of. Some of the names being thrown around are pretty solidly in the 30 anyway. I will say, it was awfully tough leaving some guys off my list for the FS polling/arguing we just finished. There will be a number of legit prospects left off. Ha, I've been waiting hoping to see a FS top 30 to know ' My favorites like Sosa and Destino, they may be on it so who knows.
  20. https://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/2018...xqlfjTqBoqoI.97 Astros top ten. 5-9 all international signings with 5 and 6 from 2016. It's frustrating to consistently say with the white sox "we won't know for several more years" consistently with our intl guys when the other successful teams we are trying to emulate see returns much faster.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 12:04 AM) Kim Contreras talked to Robert's agent and uncle. Official pronunciation is now back to... ROB-ERT. Does this mean you just scream out both parts?
  22. Has an entire conference ever made the tournament before? Iowa State is a legitimate bubble team.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 09:56 PM) What are you talking about? He ran a 6.2 60. That's 80 grade speed. He may move to a corner at some point because the bat plays there but it's been pretty universal from the Sox that he's a CF. Now others are saying the same. I do think even with that there was the "unofficial" timing of it and the chance that when he was prepping for his showcase he was learning how to run the 60 fast and that wouldn't necessarily translate. It's ridiculous but after he signed and then disappeared and then was going to be in DSL all summer and was injured, it just felt like no news is bad news for a prospect (and outta site outta mind too). So if this was only the sox saying he looks great its one thing, but for the BA and Fangraphs guys to say he looks legit, it doesn't mean he's an all star but to me it's a relief.
  24. Mizzou and Cuonzo with a big win vs Tennessee. This team is so close to having been undefeated in SEC play. Need to win our home games and steal one more road game and I think they can be dancing. And hopefully MPJ gets back so we have a ballhandler at the end.

Didn’t Kevin Meitan just gain weight and now people think he’s a future 1b?
