Have You Seen Jake Burger Lately?
Yeah but part of it may just be Merk recognizing how much fans want to read bits on instructional leagues now.

Elaborating on this is merkin: https://www.mlb.com/news/white-sox-prospect...6?tid=151437456 I have to say I didn't read that and feel that great about Sheets.

2018 catch-all
I had to update my ventra card because it was expiring but i guess i ordered a new card instead of replacing an old card and now ventra is basically saying there is no way possible for me to transfer my monthly pass to the new one so i just have to pay until the pass renews next month. Makes me long for comcast.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
Michael Wolff's thing seems very lazy and I think he's going to get burned for being as lazy as he was.

Bigger miss wasn't necessarily Mariota and Wentz, that tradeup could have been substantial, as much as not using some 4th rounders on a guy like Connor Cook, Dak or Kevin Hogan in 2016. Brett Hundley in 2015. Less that any of those guys hit, but was just surprising lack of draft capital on any sort of QB. But I'd rather they feel good about a guy than just draft for position sake.

QUOTE (Latilleon @ Jan 3, 2018 -> 12:25 PM) SB Nation was the beginning, but do their other websites have the same content creation structure? Basically they take advantage of fans and make money off their hard work, but all their other sites have actually employees writing the content, right? Yeah I don't think anyone but sbnation has that local structure relying on free contributors. I think BP ran out that same sort of model.

My problems with comcast were cut down infinitely when i stopped moving annually. That process is garbage. But now that i'm not doing that, pretty happy with them. *shudders* equipment return on north avenue

Sox Sleepers
Skoug has to prove it to me. He has a major flaw but I expected it to not show up as bad as it did until AA-AAA. He was probably exhausted but I don't think he'd be in my top 30.

Have You Seen Jake Burger Lately?
I want to say that Hostetler on a recent interview with f**an said that Burger was exhausted at the end. So aside from the swing, which I have truly no idea how to analyze a swing, it is nice to see that he seems to have taken that to heart and worked to build his body up to handle the workload.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 3, 2018 -> 08:47 AM) Not saying they won't be good coaches, but I would be nervous hiring anyone from the Patriots staff. It has a rough track record. Yeah, it's hard to figure out. On one hand, it could be working with a fallacy that because the first four failed (am I missing any from Crennel, Weis, Mangini, McDaniels) all will fail. After all, Reid has had 4 coaches from his tree fail (Shurmur, Frazier, Childress, Spagnuolo) but many succeed. And the first four failing may have been a huge blessing to Belicheck. What other team with as much success as them has had as much continuity last several years? But, you wonder if Reid delegates more and allows more freedom to learn how to coach, and Belicheck has a strict system that these guys are just operating under and have no idea how to set it up themselves. I'm open to this round being successful but they make me nervous. I kinda think Patricia will be better than mcdaniels, as he seems less built on himself having a brilliant system then just kinda knowing how to make pieces work.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 2, 2018 -> 04:52 PM) I agree with you that the depth was always questioned (not the high-end talent). Every year I feel that "next years" draft is ultimately overhyped a year away and often times as it gets closer, it never pans out or is even worse then the prior years draft. Every once in a while a generational draft happens and it usually wasn't something where everyone clamored that it was a "generational" draft leading into the draft. Heck, look at the NFL. So many people said this years draft was going to be stocked with QB talent and right now, on paper, I'd argue last years draft was stronger at the top (on paper...doens't mean reality holds). No QB this year took major steps forward and most of the top ones took steps backwards (Rosen, Darnaud, Allen). That said, QB is important so just like last year (where people were originally "down" on the class, at some point, we'll see a number of guys go in the 1st round and 2 or 3 go top 7). The more the better (push the non QB talent to the Bears). Yeah this is exactly what I mean, it's nice to see them play into the expectations of being a great class instead of just being handed it to them.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 2, 2018 -> 04:42 PM) Bagley, Ayton, Porter, and Donic were all pretty hyped entering the season. That was part of why the Bulls decided they wanted to tank (was the lure of these 4 guys). I don't really think about Doncic as he's not in the NCAA and so it's not really easy to follow, and Bagley didn't reclassify until mid-August. The top 3 of the class were considered good, but the depth that has been added with sexton and young playing out of their minds has made it a really exciting draft. I know people like Bamba, but really this class for most of the summer looked like MPJ and Ayton and then not that deep after. Now MPJ may be pick #5. That's why I like this class so much. We heard about the 2014 class forever with Wiggins and Parker. But aside from MPJ, every one of these guys that plays in the states is either living up or greatly exceeding.

I think my favorite part about this draft class is people didn't think much of it as an nba prospect class going into the season but they have earned it by being so dominant. I'll take that over a dream class that mostly underwhelms but people believe in unlocking the talent.

Obviously with Fultz dnp it's hard, but I would still take Tatum over Lauri.

I would deal any for a top 5 pick in a heart beat. He still relies a lot on midrange jumpers and isn't great around rim. But he could find his range and then be really good.

Here's my personal ranking: 1. Nagy 2. Shurmur 3. Defillipo 4. matt LeFleur 5. Patricia 6. McDaniels 7.Toub I should note that I used to like Jim Bob Cooter for the job. I had no idea about his background with DUI and home invasion. Would obviously want to steer clear. After being down on this coaching class in mid season I actually really like it now. Would be happy with any on that list except Carmichael.

For me McDaniel's terrible year as Rams OC is a bigger indictment than his Broncos run. Bradford got worse that year, they had a good RB, the only thing really right was the emergence of Brandon Lloyd, but they were like 32 or 31st in offense that year.

2017-2018 NFL Thread
Rough year with 8 decent but not good games from McCown, 6 from Manziel and 2 from Austin Davis. But his work with Carr in Oakland and Wentz in Philly are pretty incredible, and from what it sounds like he's been around and is one of those well connected coaches in that fraternity. I can see pros and cons, he would sort of be "chasing last years success" with the Rams, but definitely seems like when he's reported on he's one of those guys where everyone thinks he'll be a head coach.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 2, 2018 -> 12:37 PM) In terms of Defilippo...he is intriguing, but I really don't like the fact that he hasn't called plays, etc. Huge jump vs. Reich who called plays, etc. Shurmur very much intrigues me because I like how balanced the Vikings attack is and still believe balanced attacks work well in the NFL (especially when you are going to play a lot of cold weather games). Defillipo was the OC for the Browns in 2015, let go when Mike Pettine was fired.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 2, 2018 -> 12:13 PM) I think Brian's point is that you might as well meet with him and have the conversation and then go from there. I have always thought it is best to have a front office and HC who are aligned, but the ultimate say of the roster should rest with the GM. I’m not advocating they don’t meet with him, I’m just asking if he was still on that as he was last year with 49ers because it makes it unlikely he comes here.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 2, 2018 -> 11:53 AM) More than Weis and Crennel? I dunno man, Belichecks coaching tree hasnt really done much without him. Its hard for me to get behind anyone that has coached under him Yeah I guess I was thinking just in terms of offensive coordinator timing but you are right weis was with him for like 10 years. I guess there is no reason to believe this time it's different but I still kinda believe it is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sox Showing Interest in LHP Fernando Abad
I hope Sox get this done, that's an interesting group of teams to go up against, mostly a group of rebuilding teams. Would be really nice to start shoring up bullpen.
