  1. The giants farm system is garbage.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 09:15 PM) I can assume BAL favors a deal with STL, SF, CWS, PHI, and NYY in that order ? Why’s that? I’d prolly rank philly first.
  3. I really respect how hard Lopez plays every night.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 08:36 PM) Any speculation on what the offer was? I saw many said O's like Rutherford I hope it was 3-4 players that would obviously fail a physical.
  5. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) Mentioned that in the Abreu thread. Hahn and Hostetler were hinting that since this past draft for 2018. They hinted at it for last draft, but I do think with the new allotments it will be harder to get those 2nd 3rd round high schoolers when you are only 10th. Will be easier with our budget this year.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 08:31 PM) If Hahn truly feels having him for a year will make it easier to sign him, why has he been affected by others contract status who actually have longer terms? Why would he be concerned about Chris Sale, he would know the culture and fall in love with resigning for less. The 2 years left with Avi and Abreu wouldn't be an issue. Because he isn’t interested in the second contracts with those players
  7. I miss dealing with the Nats where every offer leaked immediately.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 08:08 PM) You think the Sox extension offer would be like 10/$50m or something? He’s going to be a multiple hundred millionaire regardless. No, but I do think restricting his market is unlikely. Especially when he wasn’t given a say in the team he’d be going to. There would be a serious bidding war in his services, obviously.
  9. QUOTE (whitesoxwinner @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 07:58 PM) We should all remain calm. We aren't going to abandon the rebuild. We are only making the trade if A. We can get him to sign an extension and B. It doesn't break the bank prospects wise. Machado is not going to give a negotiating window and honestly he shouldn’t. That guy is near the finish line to being a multiple hundred millionaire.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 07:50 PM) Was is the key word. .674 OPS in A ball doesn't get you Manny Machado. It is beyond ridiculous. Giolito, Lopez, plus might do the job. I dont think people are saying Balt would want that, they are saying that is their tolerance. And I agree.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 07:46 PM) I think the White Sox are just doing this for show. No way they get Machado without giving up multiple top prospects, and almost assuredly going to the open market in a year. They get to show him how much they want him and not tamper. Yeah this isn’t bad view. I think you are right.
  12. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 07:37 PM) Except the risk in this scenario is significant with a very real chance of just pissing away assets. If the Orioles agree to trade Manny in December it's going to cost very significant assets, not lesser prospects that we see as expendable all for the opportunity to hope Manny does the Sox a solid and limits his future earnings 2 months away from free agency because he really likes "Sox culture". It's in no way a risk worth taking. I’m probably Charlie Brown trying to kick the football, but I just don’t think they will be that stupid. Meaning, I believe they “explore” the market, but I don’t think this gets done at all. Like sub 1%. But I’m not shocked they inquired. I do think of all the teams, Sox view the Phillies rebuild as parallel. And it’s not a surprise to me phils also talked about Machado.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 07:30 PM) Agreed completely. Sure you take him for a year if it costs you Spencer Adams and Basabe, but the price is going to be higher Honestly we agree. I don’t mind us poking around, your above options is like what I’m thinking. Sure! Submit that just have a plan to walk away. I do think Sox and Phillies feel pressure on 2018 to not let the Yankees get in too good of a position with him post goancarlo.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 07:25 PM) What's the point in adding him for one year when you aren't trying to compete? Obviously the point is to gain an advantage in locking him up long term, not just letting him walk.
  15. QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 07:26 PM) Fegan is strongly hinting this might be about Machado. https://twitter.com/JRFegan/status/941115622565478400 “Would the White Sox trade for a player with very few years of control left (or only one), on the hopes they could get him to agree to a long-term deal? Know anyone that fits that description? https://theathletic.com/184071/2017/12/13/w...-mirror/” I think that’s a weird reading, he’s hinting that people should read his article he wrote.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 06:14 PM) Sierra one of the other pieces in the Ozuna deal. Still not a great return IMO, but better than it initially sounded. Yeah, considering that was worse than what I thought were reasonable deals for Avi, this would be a less than exciting return for a superior player. That said, they are good prospects.
  17. If there is anything happening here, could be like the 15-16 OF market. Sox could have put in feelers, it was cheaper than they thought, put in an offer but aren’t going to get in a bidding war. Just the price they want.
  18. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 06:43 PM) They shouldn't trade any tier for him. There obviously is a tier you could trade for him
  19. I am so ... confused by all of this smoke around this.

I moved joshua's post even though it didn't have spoilers just to not confuse the issue.
  21. The astros on the other hand had the benefit at the time of a much more exploitable latin american signing period and comp draft pick structure. The marlins will not be able to add the sheer number of players the astros did as easily.
  22. I like the sounds of all of those players on JJ's list, though I just don't see us going catcher anymore. Getting good RHP could be nice flip projects considering the yankees lineup.
  23. On its face, these aren't the impact players you'd expect coming back in these deals. I do have respect for the talent evaluators coming from the yanks and are on the marlins now, so these may end up making sense. But, as I've said before, I'm so glad the white sox struck when they did. They pushed out the best assets when there was little competition and the best teams were stocked with prospects ready to push themselves over the top. Marlins have been dealing with teams with much worse farms, under much more desperate circumstances.
  24. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 01:40 PM) Perhaps Avi could have a market when the Marlins talent feeding frenzy ends. Yelich is as good as gone after the Ozuna deal. There weren't that many teams that were a fit anyways, and those teams are taking on marlins outfielders or the results of marlins outfielders being traded.
  25. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 09:04 AM) Omarosa out. What did she do, anyway? I remember pre-election NPR was doing a series of stories on small towns in North Carolina and how they were handling their vote. They were talking to one black former convict, and how when omorossa came to town she talked about how Trump would set up special programs for former convicts to find work. He was going to vote for Trump because of it.
