  1. We don’t have to extend him. I think people are overrating the risk in keeping him or trading him. Until I see a trade proposal rumor indicating otherwise, I expect a return near but slightly better than JD Martinez. That type of return isn’t going to change the trajectory of rebuild. Nor will the money saved. His money on the books isn’t preventing anything, so the worst case is that he stays and sucks, but what we lost out on in holding him I’m not convinced will be disappointing.
  2. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 25, 2017 -> 07:19 PM) Coop + Herm * display history of success = good. Also interesting that he specifically asked for no financial aspects to be set forth. I don't know much about what Chicago has to offer when it comes to the cultural aspects requested. Still putting our odds at 1 in 1,000,000,000 ? Chicago at one time had a pretty decent Japanese population, but most moved back out west. It won’t be able to compete with West Coast cities around thriving Japanese immigrant settlements, but gets to say it is a diverse, modern city. Of course that works for cubs too and his current team is in a kinda small city I think so who knows what he’s looking for
  3. I actually think 1-1 deals are most likely. Maybe a non exciting second piece. But like for the cardinals, there are so many options to do beside Abreu if you don’t like the price. I think Kelly for Abreu is the kind of deal I’d expect. It’s why I still just don’t see them moved.
  4. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Nov 25, 2017 -> 06:37 PM) I thought I saw Fisher on 2, but I guess I just read the same one twice. I guess the bolded is true....but maybe this time is different haha. He actually had one of the top hit tools in the draft and I saw one article that had him rated as like the 6th best 1B in the draft. He's been pretty bad at fielding though. Does anyone know how his arm is or if the team is looking to shift him to the OF? I feel like he profiles a lot better in the OF corners than 1B/DH. I think there are plenty of reasons to think it IS different this time (his age and plate discipline for one) but it’s harder to go out on a ledge for them when before some scout writers say the league has taken notice. If he rakes in Kanny he’ll be on his way.
  5. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Nov 25, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) I'm surprised more people don't have Yurchak on their lists. He seems similar to Jameson Fisher, but has more power. I see Yurchak on one list and Fisher on none. There are good signs with Yurchak but I think everyone has been burned too many times getting excited over rookie ball numbers by college hitters.
  6. I’m still skeptical but he out coached a lot of “better” coaches with more resourced programs. We had a winning record by running 4 straight in the conference. He’s young too, and with Lock and Beckners stock exploding, I still think it bodes well for Mizzou that when five stars commit they get them to the NFL and well. He needs to improve but he bought another year easily, and dealt with some weird stuff last year like coach Kulogowski emailing the playbook for Missouri to all of our opponents that year.
  7. Chip in at UCLA. Riley out at Nebraska (could be good for heads and ISU recruits) I can’t believe Nebraska firing pelini for being good not great and replacing him with Oregon states good not great coach didn’t work out.
  8. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 25, 2017 -> 10:17 AM) I didn’t see the game but he only had 7 pts. What did i miss? The move was dumb on draft day but didnt see great numbers last night. You should look at the whole stat sheet. He’s a rookie C on a team that plays outside a lot. Was great on D. Looked much better than Felicio.
  9. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...15&start=15 2016 LatAm thread
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 25, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) I’ll be honest, I really struggled with those last four guys. There were probably a dozen or so up for consideration. I actually wanted to included Sosa, but haven’t found too much about him online and clearly there isn’t going to be much video either at this point. Do you mind bumping your post about him or sharing it in this thread? The fact that they brought him over so quickly hopefully speaks volume how the organization feels about him. And we definitely need some of these LatAm signings to start doing something, as my list only had one (excluding Robert) that was orginally signed by the Sox and that’s obviously not good. There’s like 3 tiers just in your 40FV guys: the bullpen guys, the high ceiling/no production guys, and the possible bench guys. Basabe is a guy though that I think his rep among scouts will exceed writers/fans. I’ll bump my old thread
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 24, 2017 -> 09:26 PM) Tier 1 - 65/70 FV 1. Eloy Jimenez, OF 2. Michael Kopech, RHP Tier 2 - 60 FV 3. Luis Robert, OF 4. Alex Hansen, RHP Tier 3 - 50/55 FV 5. 12. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 19, 2017 -> 07:49 AM) Credit where credits due, Mizzou looked like worst team in country it’s first 4 games, played better but lost, then ripped off 5 straight and is going bowling. Very weak schedule, but again, they looked like worst team in country. Also nice because this looks like a brutal year for a team in mizzou’s tier to hire. Mizzou finishes 7-5. Their last three wins nearly led to three straight firings but just missed on Florida. Yeah, glad we ain’t hiring v Arkansas, Fla, Tenn, and A&M.
  13. So the bulls lost by like 50 and Jordan Bell spent the whole post game embarrassing the bulls. Kerr seemed happy to take part. Things are going really well.
  14. QUOTE (ptatc @ Nov 23, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) Is it truly a conditioning thing or is it the fact as a 17 year old his body is just maturing? I have no knowledge of the matter I'm just wondering. It’s how it’s maturing. You don’t go from hopefully a shortstop to likely 1b (in some reports) just from conditioning.
  15. QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Nov 23, 2017 -> 10:34 PM) Too bad Sox N Roll isn’t available. Are any of these podcasts downloadable? Since 670 the Score has a massive hard on for the Cubs and anything but the Sox I would love to hear some Sox chatter. Maybe some individual podcasts about the minor league players. I believe all mentioned so far should be on iTunes and soundcloud so yes.
  16. Many good baseball podcasts but for general I still love effectively wild and any ben Lindbergh ones (he also hosts the ringer mlb podcast).
  17. It was more how his body filled out than his numbers.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 10:31 AM) UCLA is such a better fit. I assume he's taking that job. Two words: under armour
  19. That is some...commitment to a process that doesn’t matter.
  20. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/262323234/wh...-former-braves/ It was Mayo and not Callis. A commenter asked if there was a public resource with that info so hopefully he responds.
  21. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 08:50 AM) I'm really hoping he was just saying what the max each team could offer was, so even though the Sox have more our number would be $300k. For us to be below $1.2mil we would have had to trade away $2.5mil between Burr and Yrizzari. Considering we got Vieira for $500k, that seems like a lot. I don’t think he was because he mentioned that one of them couldn’t go over 300k. I’ll look for article.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 10:07 PM) I agree with Hi8 and RaBBit that there's no reason for these guys to do antyhing other than go to max out their bonuses, and so we might only have a shot at 1 or 2 guys that would be available for that $300k normally. However, I do wonder if this might shake loose another Thyagomizer type deal. When Ohtani was the only guy on the market, teams could look at the Yankees and Mariners and think "If we don't get Ohtani we're out the player we gave up for him". Now there's like 3 or 4 other backup plans on the market. Send the White Sox a player from your A-ball team for some of their bonus money, make your run at Ohtani, and if you miss out on him you go out and sign that catcher that was just released. Right, especially if a team makes a 2018 dip that compromises a verbal, sox could have nice leverage next signing period with trades as well. Now, call is tweeted out the top 5 teams with available money in 2017, sox weren’t on it and the last team had just over 1.2 left. Looks like the Burr / Yrizzari trades were for more than the Mariners trade. So we may not have too much left this period to trade.
  23. That is...disgusting to put it lightly.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 04:32 PM) It is really a crappy labor practice to quite literally have different sets of rules for different nationalities. It should all be in one pool. Either draft or free agent, period. Oh I agree, but the reason they stood firm ont he draft was it would reduce spending. But then they agreed to reduced spending and acted like the draft was the problem! It was weird.
  25. I don't think it should be too elaborate, could get too cute by half. BUT, from the White Sox point of view they were not in the penalty in 2016 and lost the opportunity to sign these players because they didn't do it illegally.
