  1. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 12:02 PM) I mean, he's right, but the problem here is less about the legality of it and more about whether we want representatives to be the types of people that would be involved in a situation like that. Yeah, i'm sure there are disgruntled employees who may be seeking revenge by filing false claims, but usually where there is smoke there's fire. Right. They have decided to solve that problem by creating a system of zero oversight which has much more predictable and irresponsible consequences for public servants.
  2. When a Gabe DeArmond, Matter etc say that I"ll believe it. But secretly I've thought it was a season ender since Utah. Too much secrecy, too clear they had no idea what it was.
  3. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 09:12 AM) The decision might have to do with once you put a player on your 40 man roster, they must pass through waivers before being taken off of it. Protecting too many players would limit our roster flexibility this offseason by loading up on players not ready for the major leagues yet. I doubt Peter get selected, but a team could eye Polo as a quality fourth outfielder. Guerrero we are in danger of losing, especially the teams that notice his FIP and XFIP from 2017. Plus any free agent signings will come with kicking off a 40 man guy. We won't bat an eye kicking off albuquerque, etc, but if we loaded with all of our young guys we would not be able to sign anyone.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 11:58 AM) What a crazy ripple effect. Think about it, it started with Rapp "yea, im not really a fan of Kevin Spacey" and just spiraled out I think Ronan Farrow's incredible Weinstein story and follow-ups that showed how the system was used was more influential.
  5. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 11:03 AM) Shouldn't it be FOIA-able? I'm unsure. It would seem so but you would have to imagine it would be FOIA'd to death now.
  6. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 11:38 AM) If under the 2017 pool we theoretically could continue to just blow through the spending cap, right? No, Robert was 2016, sox are restricted this year (2017). White sox have signed 2 players in this period that we know of.
  7. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) Hearing that all the prospects the Braves lose will be tossed back into the international free agent pool, subject to existing restrictions (likely we are out of the running to sign any of them) Maybe, but who knows. Their 2016 class was huge: https://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...Ksi7HlBLXhEP.97 It's hard to know what team has what amount left. Certainly the runner up to Otani may feel like they have a nice consolation, but it could play out with us getting a guy we didn't expect.
  8. Wow, mlb going way harder than I thought they would. Good for them.
  9. Jenks - more eye-popping than the campaign funds was one settlement that used the offices own budget to provide 3 additional months pay to the victim. It would be hard to identify these instances, as it looks like payroll. Agree with Josh Barro on this, and Congresswoman Jackie Speier, open up the Congressional Settlement fund to public eyes: http://www.businessinsider.com/congress-se...-public-2017-11
  10. I remember watching Greenberg on CLTVs sports page growing up. Never really watched mike and mike.
  11. <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"> Not sure if you can read that. But this system is so ridiculous that claims can be settled without the accused even knowing there was a settlement. It is to provide plausible deniability. Needs to be blown up.
  12. Whatever this apparently without oversight (should probably be in quotes since I don't believe that's true) system of NDAs and payouts is for congressman needs to be spotlighted and then blown up.
  13. QUOTE (Tony @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 11:04 PM) That’s kind of my point. Basically taking away a year of development from a 20 year old can wreck a career, and it’s not on Basabe, but the team. No real loss to them, but the player just missed out on 500 PA’s in Single A and instead sat on a ML bench all year. That’s not right to the player. Yeah, I don't necessarily know the way around it except maybe make it different for lat am signings who start in the league so young.
  14. QUOTE (Tony @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 10:11 PM) That's where I really don't like the Rule V draft. No one can convince me that putting a kid like Basabe on an ML roster, giving up 80-100 ABs in 2018 is good for his development. But the team doesn't have any other choice. It may not be good for the players dev, but for the team they got a fairly low risk acquisition that has the talent to potentially blossom. If Basabe didn’t pan out b/c they rushed him, they are exactly where they were before. I also don’t think Basabe was so likely, but it definitely seems like the industry opinion on Basabe is way higher on him than on Polo. They could be wrong, hopefully we end up with both.
  15. He has defensive versatility and speed, so yeah I do think he was a candidate to be stashed as a 5th OF on a rebuilding team.
  16. True, we should save the rule 5 for can’t miss prospects
  17. QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 04:44 PM) Am I missing something about Guerrero, is he really that good, good enough to stay on the majors all season? Would Peters get picked, or did they not add him because of the logjam of infielders they currently have? Was Covey really that good? He's good enough to put in the bullpen for a year. I honestly am much less worried about Polo than others. He's not very likely to be picked imo.
  18. Can't say I've truly grasped what the interests being defended are.
  19. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 04:12 PM) Why would he even opt out though? It seems unlikely to me that he'd get the remainder of his current contract on the open market, even if he keeps playing like this. Especially with his injury history. If he believed in himself he could maybe play well to get opt out, shorter, higher AAV deal and try for 2 more contracts.
  20. I'm surprised Guerrero is mad. If he's picked he is in the majors next year, if he's not he's in...the same place with the org he already was in. Isn't the rule 5 draft kind of a favor to exactly these sort of players?
  21. Weird for me now being old enough to truly having watched and remembered most of these guys careers now eligible. You start to get some of the fights that happened previously a little better. Like first gut check, no way Rolen is a HOFer. Then I looked at numbers and it's like...hmmm
  22. Per Chris Kuc, Willie Harris left for another org.
  23. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 01:51 PM) I think borderline insane would be putting it lightly. No chance we spend that much on two players. Also something about the last decade plus tells me that it would also fail spectacularly.
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 11:05 AM) Cleveland's drafting is just horrific. So far they've only hit on a cant-miss pass rusher. Their handling of QB and S were just stupid moronic decisions. I have to wonder how much is development. The Browns have actually done what you are supposed to do the last decade. THey have picked a lot, made good trades for picks. They've...drafted a lotta garbage.
