I am saddened to read that, and feel pretty cynical about it. This was a line I grew up thinking was the one thing that could not be crossed or tolerated. But it will be now.

Every year I go through the draft order and get mad at the competitive balance picks.

Well they have been rewarded for not letting anyone deliberate on it, so that's a part of it.

What matters a lot is turnout. Everyone thought this would be a low turnout (16), it was not. Far from being depressed, something (we're not allowed to talk about it) suddenly catalyzed a lot of exurb and rural voters to come out to vote for Trump. Trump is seeing collapse in the strongly support numbers. Would those voters, even if broadly sympathetic to Trump, make the time to vote again?
