QUOTE (steveno89 @ May 3, 2017 -> 12:58 PM) I would let Moncada stay in the minors until at least mid to late June to avoid Super 2 Even though he is hitting well and showing solid power, he still can benefit from working on reducing that strikeout % and on defense He's only 21 years old, and there's not much reason to rush him to the majors Also allows more time for Saladino/Davidson to prove which one is worth making room for.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 2, 2017 -> 09:49 PM) Booker has some strikes going against him. Too close to the pharmaceutical industry. Industrial NE "home territory" doesn't help the Dems expand back into the Heartland, Rust Belt and Near West. The fact that he will inevitably be compared to Obama due to race. Some will feel that it's instead "time" for a woman, Hispanic-American, Asian-American/Indian-American, etc., to have an opportunity. This third paragraph is so hilariously dem thinking. "Oh, if we just get a white southern working class male, we will win the white male working class vote!" ... "What? We put John Edwards on the ticket? How could we lose?"
  3. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ May 3, 2017 -> 11:51 AM) To me, the question is what teams have the prospects to meet the Sox asking price. I mean, Texas might want a TOR starter at the deadline, but there's no way they have the pieces to get a deal done. As of today, the teams are still the teams we spent all offseason talking about: the Yankees, the Cubs, the Astros, the Pirates, and the Rockies. And if the Sox would trade Q within the division, add Cleveland to that. I might be missing a couple teams in there, but it's a pretty limited pool of teams that would be willing to get in on Q and have the resources to pull it off. That's the issue on moving Q more than anything else, IMO. Way things are going we may need to include the Mets.
  4. QUOTE (steveno89 @ May 3, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) I don't see many TOR starters being available at the deadline at will be under lengthy team control. Rental players do not come cheap either, and a team may have an easier time justifying a longer term piece like Quintana over an expensive three month rental Teams acquiring at deadline want to win now. I think that actually discounts Q's value given specifically to his contract. But that he is a great pitcher, probably the best one on the market in July, gives him more value. But there will be only so many competing teams, and Q will cost so much teams may decide to get a hot bullpen piece instead. But, we can provide depth. The yankees being good is great news.
  5. Though not a fred fan, they make it impossible to not side with any bulls coaches with how incredibly combative and openly critical they are. Like how every manager with a bad bullpen looks terrible, fred looks a lot worse when he has to plug and play 5 guards that have no business in NBA. Maybe a little harsh on grant, but not far off.
  6. I wish someone would ask Gar to evaluate himself on how good he was acquiring d league guards.
  7. On the Garfein podcast, one of the CSN team was down with Birmingham to film a special on our minors they'll show in a few weeks. Had a bit on Kopech that was nice to hear, especially with recent discussion on if he missed a start with a hangover. https://audioboom.com/channel/white-sox-talk-podcast Talks to Ryan McGuffey around 12 minutes in (total estimate) McGuffey has a bit on how on his off day, both Kopech and Adams were in the stands with a radar gun scoring the game and recording every pitch. McGuffey asked him about it and he basically blew it off, saying he was there to learn. If you aren't taking every opportunity to learn that you can, why are you even here? There was more on just how Kopech expects that he is on the road to being great, and is putting in all the work to get there. I like that there is a feeling with all the guys we acquired and the expectations around that they will lead something great. But the thing that I like is none of them are running from it, seems like they all are embracing it. Even at the ML level, they all seemed to get motivation from them being a young team given the baton.
  8. Yeah we are absolutely hamstrung by needing teams to be contenders with a top farm. I'm excited by those returns, less need to "win" deal on its own terms, opportunity to go after younger players to even out our farm.

    Life as a New Parent

QUOTE (smalls2598 @ May 3, 2017 -> 09:01 AM) We originally had our daughter in an in home daycare, and things were going great until the nanny broke her hip. We then had to put our daughter into Childtime, and the price was about $200 more per month. Our daughter did not like it there, and the place smelled like dirty diapers (the staff was very nice, though). Luckily, we were able to find another in home daycare about 2 months later, and she has been going there since March 2015, and she loves it. We have not yet started our daycare (start monday), but your experience mirrors my coworkers and siblings that steered me toward in home when before I did not expect a positive view toward it.

    Life as a New Parent

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 3, 2017 -> 08:57 AM) It's still $300+ a week if we're looking at 45-50 hours (7:30 drop-off, 4:30 pickup), ugh. At least we get a 10 week or so relief during the summers since my wife's a teacher. Ha, yes I am so far past this stage. After a moment where it looked like the only in home option would be $9 an hour, I quickly pivoted to spending an additional $1000 a month as a super great deal. But, we are also keenly aware due to family that this will be a bargain comapred to 2/3 kids where we will almost certainly need a nanny or nanny share.
  11. If you all are interested in beating this dead horse more, I do think that the trade market is looking worse. I think there will be a lot of pitching on the market to the few dominant teams thus far. But with injuries, Sox may have an advantage if MiGo and Holland continue pitching well to package Q with a 5th starter a la the Smarj/Hammel trade.
  12. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 3, 2017 -> 09:28 AM) Just a point of comparison, two weeks ago Duffy's ERA was 1.32 and Quintana's ERA was 6.75. Now their ERA is separated by a mere 0.21. That's especially funny just because it is so driven by the same games.
  13. That dude swing at a pitch that hit the dirt like 10 feet in front of him
  14. Are the hitters guessing a curve and getting fooled by the FB?

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 2, 2017 -> 08:37 PM) Cory Luebke returned tonight for Charlotte, striking out 2 in a scoreless inning. Looking forward to seeing him in Chicago, think he'll be a valuable piece. He's lefty correct?

In home daycare is way to go especially in active neighborhoods where you can get lots of recs. About $5/hr normally.
  17. After years of KC outclassing us in defense and fundamentals this is kind of a treat.
