  1. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 17, 2017 -> 09:31 AM) Honestly though, that's the smart play on his/their part. They get nothing from going after Trump. They lose some of their base if they do that. They can sit back, be quiet, and let Trump hang himself. They are the ones who let him hang. I know what you mean, but frankly I'm not interested in their political motivations. Aside from something grossly unethical and a red line that the nation has not let cross before (obstruction of justice on an investigation of the president), they have now ample evidence in the last week that he is dangerously incompetent. Dangerously. The blurting out to Russia. The western wall comment. The reports that people are putting Trumps name into as many paragraphs as they can just to keep him reading. He can't do this job. At some point you'd want the responsibility as citizen reps to say "listen, we had a fun weekend dressing him up, but Bernie is dead"
  2. sacramento is in really good position in this draft at 5 and 10. I really like this draft, glad we'll get some 5th year senior with injury problems and questionable athleticism.
  3. Yes I'm sure so many will shed a tear for Ohio State.
  4. Really happy for Yolmer, learned each time he came up. I thought he just didn't have it after last year. He is truly a joy on the field. I just wish the dude had an arm. I'd have no doubt he'd be a consistent major leaguer through his arb years if he could just play SS/3B.
  5. Good work from Williamson at NRO (with a typical penultimate paragraph to make sure we knew we were reading National Review): http://www.nationalreview.com/article/4476...be-acknowledged

  7. Let's just let this end it: That fox (local fox) story was ridiculous hearsay from the start, interviewing this "former law officer" who said he may have heard from someone who heard from an officer that they found emails from wikileaks on his laptop. Except that police dept didn't have the laptop. He is not a PI hired by the family. And he heard about it from the TV.
  8. Just want to say this ump is pretty solid.
  9. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 16, 2017 -> 05:17 PM) As much as Mike Pence's political views are even more extreme than Trump's, he is such a preferable president because at least he wouldn't put his foot in his mouth every other hour. I continue to believe the same, but the longer the trump pres goes the obvious accomodating makes it hard to move cleanly on. But the argument that Pence takes institutions more seriously should be true, yet, he's allowing this. He is on record telling lies.
  10. Burr saying it's up to NYT to get the memo. That's a good indicator that the Republicans are not moved.
  11. Wow that is really huge
  12. QUOTE (Jake @ May 16, 2017 -> 03:49 PM) How has the weather differed thus far? It feels like it's been better, but I don't recall last year being much different.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 16, 2017 -> 12:57 PM) Veep has been up and down this season. Loved last week's episode but thought this recent one was pretty awful. It has become unmoored from it's political commentary, and now is basically just using plot as a device to tell funny/dirty quips to each other. I like the characters and it makes me laugh, so I watch it. But it's not much different than a CBS sitcom now (actually silicon valley is moving in same territory)
  14. Frankly baseball was not something people discussed in Chicago from 2010-2014. I thought the spotlight of the cubs would help sox in the idea of more people thinking going to a baseball game would be fun.
  15. I think July should be interesting. The wildcard teams we thought would be contenders stumbled out of the gate, which will give unexpected teams a chance to deliver a playoff experience surprising their fans. Those are the ones that may overpay for marginal goods like our vets/bullpen surprises.

QUOTE (BBBF @ May 16, 2017 -> 09:14 AM) Damn bmags, you're old. Yes, painfully. Though that means you are almost turned in. Hey old message board friend
  17. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 16, 2017 -> 09:33 AM) https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archiv...th-ways/526578/ Ha, I love hypotheticals like that.
  18. Maybe he realizes supreme court unlikely, wants to advance career through other political means. If he took over head of FBI and got fired, he could become a legitimate political power and also get rich as hell off of that. Cynical time for politics requires most cynical lens.
  19. I'm kind of scared Merrick Garland will accept.
  20. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 15, 2017 -> 02:50 PM) Anyone else watching American Gods? Slowly. I am enjoying it, surprisingly easy to watch considering the storytelling. But we are struggling to stay awake past 9pm now so hard to catch up on tv

I did not have any care for musicals/theatre until I took a theatre criticism class my senior year. Saw 'Doubt', a rather poor production actually, and Sweeney Todd, and really enjoyed. We haven't been able to bite a season pass, but go to Steppenwolf 1-2 times per year and bigge rmusicals. Looking forward to the Humans coming next year. Even the smaller theatres are a lot of fun. Went to see Heathers the Musical last July and had a blast. That was at stage 773, who also had a run of manuel miranda's in the heights musical that I did not catch.
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 16, 2017 -> 08:26 AM) well he did tell us last week that there's no reason to believe anything any of his staff says! this is such an epic disaster, and tens of millions of us saw it coming. Trump sure is doing a great job of making his own staff that he sends out to lie for him look like big idiots, as well as the sycophant rightwing media who was shouting "FAKE NEWS!" all night. He said not to believe his press team. SoS and NatSec is a bigger deal.
  23. Trump admits story is true, after staff including McMaster and Tillerson gave forceful non denial denials last night. Dignity wraiths indeed.
  24. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 15, 2017 -> 07:30 PM) So who in the White House is leaking? Somebody that was in that room had to leak what Trump said to the newspaper Security aids ran to CIA and NSA right after so either Aides or the depts that had to clean it up.
  25. Worse, think of how his own staff feeds him crap news sources that align with what they want to see done. We are going to be fed B.S. from other intel sources that they may hope to get out. Now, our intel services are probably good enough to weed that out, except Trump takes loads of info from terrilbe sources like Roger stone (STILL) that could be used to manipulate him, because Stone and Flynn are complete idiots.
