  1. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 11:08 AM) Don't they know it's Christmas week? Christmas was yesterday
  2. Disclaimer: This is probably a very bad addition to a Q trade if he takes any future value away from the package: But I really have wanted to take a flyer on Michael Pineda as a Cooper project. He I believe is in final year of arbitration, so this is a flip project.
  3. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) Sox were trying to compete last year, they weren't looking to trade their top reliever. They traded Duke, and by all reports had discussed Sale even for a comical price. I can't imagine they didn't hear any offers on Robertson. They were 8 games back of the wild card on August 1st.
  4. The most important thing out of that rumor is a team that is not the Astros is now linked to Quintana. And, for those that want a depth package, the Yankees are definitely your farm system.
  5. It doesn't seem like there is a large market of teams selling out to win right now. That will change at deadline. I would love to know if Sox feel regret holding onto Drob at deadline last year after seeing his market this offseason or if it was largely the same.
  6. I thought our offensive line has been +. Give us a playcaller that knows to run the ball, legit tight ends, and revamped defensive backfield and we could be somewhere.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 09:19 AM) For a few million dollars, or less, I wouldn't be opposed. It might even move Avi out of town. Naw Avi is our RFer!
  8. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 09:03 AM) I really hope the Packers fire Dom Capers at season end. Just an awful run defense. To let someone as bad as Matt Barkley almost beat you is pathetic. Listen, nobody can stop the Barkley train except bears receivers. So that means you'll need to hire Josh Bellamy as your DC.

It seems deeply irresponsible of the new republic leaders of the force awakens to not have built their own death star. Their containment strategy clearly has failed, if they don't build their own deterrent than they don't care about their people.
  10. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 08:27 AM) Nah, IMO they know they need him. They're just playing hardball in the market. Since no one else seems to be stepping up to challenge them, they probably figure there's no rush to bid against themselves and up their offer. I agree. They aren't dumb. They know Quintana is expensive to get, but also that there were a handful of teams to start the season that would be capable and willing to get him: Los Angeles D Boston Themselves Yankees then Braves/Rockies as wild cards Well Dodgers are out and Boston already spent their load. Yankees appear willing to wait to continue along their path. So it's basically between Houston and two teams that don't even seem that deadset. They'll find a market price but they are not under bidding pressure it seems right now.
  11. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 18, 2016 -> 07:55 PM) If the Sox have to include Jones to get Dahl, I'd rather pursue a Rodgers/Tapia centered deal, maybe include a good arm and another bat with that. Man, not me. Getting an MLB ready outfielder for a reliever is a no brainer to me

  13. And in bad weather. With all backups
  14. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Dec 18, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) Barkley looks good Yeah. Like, keeps outperforming the other qb

As bad as Return of the Jedi was I watched Revenge of the Sith and that was ten times worse and you forget how cheap everything looks. It was like a bad Dr Who episode.
  16. Tomorrow is st Patrick's day
  17. That's basically what Phils did last year. It's good news because it means some unexpected players playing well.
  18. It is nice that in place we are in now Eddy could reasonably see the show for a spell.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 10:58 PM) But Hahn is the master of negotiation...and what more education can he have? Law degree, MBA and ? Varsity jacket I know.
  20. I bet Holland signs for more than we think.
  21. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 10:53 PM) What's more important to a guy from Cuba, winning the World Series or extending his career and making more millions and helping more of his family and friends? Granted, he's rich as hell already, but the money he's making can change a lot of lives. You really think winning a championship is that important in the grand scheme of things? Chapman by all accounts is a big family man.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 04:50 PM) I think one day we are all going to login and there will be a report that Q has been traded. Seems like whomever else the Sox are talking to have quiet lips and with everyone staying radio silent, we all might be surprised at who acquires him or how quick it goes down. Might be true, hoping there's a sudden frantic bidding when some team finally provides that final wanted piece and we try to get it countered.
  23. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 04:13 PM) But 1 year contracts; those lost picks were recouped one year later. And the Sox would have lost a 2nd round pick (or maybe the comp round pick -forget how it works), but recouped a comp round pick a year later. I will admit that this year Hahn has an excuse to do a contract or 2 for a bad player and, on its own, it doesn't really matter; however it hasn't been restricted to tear down years; that's his modus opeandi in "go for it" years. I just think that this is not a sign of business as usual. This is justified now when it was not last year. The encouraging thing and all that we can hope for is interviews from Hostetler and Hahn of an organization moving toward a longer term view, a realistic assessment of their talent, and a psuh toward player development. This move makes plenty of sense toward that. This move a year ago would have been a compatible with competing. This move makes sense now, it did not make sense then. I think they were capable of doing a good job, I just don't think they were supported to do the right thing and were not talented enough to convince their bosses.
  24. I don't think that ATL is a serious buyer for Q, I just find their farm interesting for its lack of high end bats but very interesting young prospects in bulk.
