  1. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 09:52 AM) I think that's ultimately what they'd end up getting. Beninetendi/Devers, pitching, some wildcards and possibly Swihart. Right, and it's not like wildcards aren't good returns. Hell, we started penciling in TIlson as our starting CF and he was not even a cardinals top ten prospect. In the Peavy trade the wildcards ended up our best returns.
  2. It's a helpless feeling in the city. I can't believe how long it took mayor to respond. I find myself hoping the extra police will help, but unconvinced. U of Chicago crime lab released in June their study that Youth Guidance's Becoming a Man program was effective in reducing crime. https://www.youth-guidance.org/ I've been donating there but have not volunteered. I've become a mentor for a school in Auburn Gresham. Really wish if it really does impact that Chicago could fix the lead issues.
  3. With Alshon Jeffery/AJ Green and Larry Fitzgerald along with Sammy Watson I thought I'd be playoff bound after week 2. Then Watson goes down and I'm getting nothing more than "fine" games from those guys and Forte is not the sure 10 plus player due to catches he once was and my team sucks.
  4. I think my dream package that would be out of asking price for red sox is benintendi/devers/rodriguez/kopech/2 wild cards I think I'd be disappointed in less than benintendi/devers/rodriguez/2-3 wildcards. They may not be the beat your socks off packages people wanted, but I think some are motivated off more the idea of punishing the team we trade with than actually finding a deal with both parties. Though Sale/Q are amazing and cheap, there is still a lot of risk that they get injured and if you trade your whole farm system - you are out of a job. There needs to be some realism and frankly I think most red sox fans would think giving up a benintendi level prospect alone gets them out of giving up a rodriguez/devers 2nd tier.
  5. QUOTE (shysocks @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 09:02 AM) He is a Mormon, and Mormons have been more resistant to Trump than the rest of the Repub voting base. I only know this because 538 had a piece about the [remote] possibility of McMullin becoming president last week. Win Utah, neither Trump nor Clinton gets to 270, get picked by the House. http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/how-ev...the-presidency/ Im aware, but no other third party polls so high anywhere, strange he wouldn't have a blip on any national polls unless he's not included. And it would make sense NOT to include him as he missed ballot on quite a few states. I think the fight for the GOP will be between the Utah republicans/college educated whites and Evangelicals/high school grad white males.
  6. Do national polls include McMullin as an option? Weird that he could poll so high in utah but under 1% nationally.
  7. Forgot a Nolan was in charge, all of the criticisms I've had make sense. Westworld Pitch Meeting Nolan: "And they are in a beautiful western set theme park where the priviledged kill and rape the robots, who are slaves to their storylines. But what if the robots gain consciousness? What if we wake up with them, what world will it be?" HBO Exec: "That's fantastic this is green lit, this is going to be so much fun!" Nolan: "Yeah! It's going to be just like reading a board game manual!" HBO Exec: " Wait, what?"
  8. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 04:38 PM) Sox typically fall in love with players with plus defense and plus on base skills? True, his .340 obp is a cushion. It's probably irrational, but if including JBJ means a more limited package i'm just nervous he becomes a high swing and miss player that resembles his rookie year more than the torrid stretch of 2015-first half 2016
  9. I think JBJ is a great player in a position of scarcity but as I've said, he scares me as a player the sox typically fall in love with and fail with.
  10. Hacked emails showed clinton staff laughed and shared around a Borowitz headline and that explains a lot about her terrible zingers (bring back jon lovett to staff)
  11. Also I said article but I just meant above each paragraph nugget.
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 02:16 PM) I was going on my pure eye ball test, but it seems like he had been doing a good job. I wonder how much of that net average was impacted by that big return in the Lions game (given small sample size) where our entire unit massively failed. I had read a few things the past week highlighting that he had become a pretty good punter as well (which seemed to validate my eyes). He has been a huge failure. Last game was fine, but when we need him to flip a field he hits it 20 yards out of bounds. When we can pin them deep, he kicks it to the 20 or touch back. He's really bad.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 02:14 PM) You love to pick fights. The reason is the White Sox director of player development has received more attention in 1 day than the position has received in 5 years, and it is because a guy played for the White Sox 7 years ago. No, dick, it's because after a horrendous season that proved most of the board's worst fears about the white sox lack of direction, we put our hopes to see some change in any place it can happen. And when a pretty poorly performing area gets filled with a green candidate, it just re enforces that the White Sox do not see anything wrong with their set-up. That's why Chris Getz is getting this attention. Because he is the same blue print that we have been rolling out that has failed.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 02:09 PM) Back on track? They've scored the fewest points in the league and he has Hoyer averaging 45+ passing attempts per game. He should have been fired today. He has a backup QB, is on their third string rb, lost his #2 WR. The bears talent on offense is nonexistent, but are able to execute a similar game plan to Gase in that it can now waste time. You seem to occupy this weird zone where it's everyones fault and no ones fault. It was hot takes when we correctly pointed out after preseason chiefs game that this team had no talent. It was hot takes after game one. Now that their rookie OC is starting to put things together with this group of terrible, he should be fired. OK.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 12:37 PM) This offseason, we are going to experiment with doing a weekly News and Notes type column. As there is plenty going on, but not a lot on any one day, this seems like the best way to consolidate all the news - transactions, offseason league performances, links to related stories, etc. Here is the first edition. Tell us what you think! Anything you think we should change or add? The plan is for these to come out around the beginning of each week. One thing that I would recommend is putting a list of the players and their slashlines at top of article and then the narrative underneath. For me, it's easier to digest, as I like to pick and choose who I'm following anyway. Small recommendation not a big deal.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 01:36 PM) And yet, more likely than Chelsea. TBH I would be less shocked if Chelsea run especially with Clinton Foundation unwinding.
  17. I think she'll start up a foundation similar to the Clintons and do work in US and specifically Chicago. At least I hope so.
  18. so glad i did the search as nick capra white sox.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) Whatever. I said Getz got more play on this board before he started than Capra got in 5 years. Link a thread or two that proves I'm wrong. Specific Nick Capra talk. From now on, minor league failing will be pinned on Chris Getz. No, it will still be pinned on the organization as a whole, especially buddy bell. It is a missed opportunity that they did not recognize a failure in this department and seek out a candidate that could transform what they've been doing. This, like hiring your bench coach and retaining most of the coaches on the staff, like retaining your president and GM, shows that the Sox think they are on the right track. That is a punch in the gut, because I'd really like to see a playoff team in the next 5 years.
  20. I am 100% certain you'll never see Michelle Obama continue in an actual political position. She seems to want to go back to a more normal life ASAP.
  21. I'm old enough to remember when Jeremy Hill was great
  22. QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 11:31 AM) Chris Sale for a top 5 teams entire farm system. Get it done. No one will ever do this.
  23. If the white sox were successful at it, it wouldn't be a problem. STL knows how to train employees on a single goal. It's that the white sox have no vision, and keep recycling people who have been a part of that lack of vision which makes it a problem. That's why a strong outsider would be nice.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 11:56 AM) I really feel this election cycle would be a lot better if Clinton didn't spend as much time as she did dropping to his level and engaging him in this stupidity. It is also another reason I question her decision making skills. I disagree. From June until August she was out on trail with voters and releasing her policy proposals to a bunch of crickets. Greg thought she was hiding or that the media was specifically not covering her. Because she is an incumbent it is hard to set the agenda anyways. The agenda has been set by trump, and that agenda is just saying crazy s*** and blaming all of the worlds problems on everyone that has never complimented him personally. The referendum has become not on Obama's presidency, but on Trump himself. There is no reason why she should not question all of the crazy stuff he says. If Mitt Romney had said the Central Park 5 are still guilty, it would have sunk him. It barely even gets noticed. But that is really bad! So she has to note that he can't be the law and order president if his version of law and order is just throwing people in jail with no evidence. And also, people don't lke Trump, and like when people stand up to him. She has been much more effective when she plays the role of standing up for groups hurt by him than when she ignores it and speaks policy. For reference to this, see how paul ryan keeps trying to bring up his policy platform every day when everyone just wants to talk about Trump. It makes him look ridiculous. And that's the box she gets put on. He says something nuts, people want to talk about it. People want her to refute him. It's not poor judgment.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) Never said that. I specifically alluded to Capra. Where is the discussion about him? They probably discuss Buddy Bell, and whatever weird crappy organizational heirarchy the white sox have done that make it unclear who is in charge of things. But I think it's fair game, considering the shifts in the organization, that people would like new blood that would create a new direction, like how hostetler gave way to the end of Laumann. A former player with 2 years experience being given the director level means buddy bell is not losing any influence. And we can expect the same results. But you are okay with that, that's fine.
