I'm fine with lower OBP, as he is improving our power considerably (as a whole, we are much improved). Looking at a likely 100+ home runs from our infield with Desmond. We had low obp + low power last year. At least have solved one half of that equation in this signing.

My main problem with qdoba is rice. Their rice is always dry and grody.

Well, I guess the wire is right. The question isn't if they'll make a dumb move, it's when. Kudos to the patience of the law enforcement officials here.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 02:43 PM) I would love a Desmond signing. Infield would have serious power and then you could try trading for an OF piece to platoon with Avi. Couple of random thoughts if this were to happen: 1.) Do you sign him for 2-3 years or offer him a 1 year prove it deal where you recoup the comp pick after next season? 2.) If Saladino is moved to utility, that pretty much makes Carlos Sanchez expendable, right? I think Saladino can cover anywhere in the infield better than Sanchez Depth has been sorely lacking on this team. Having two players with elite defense and speed on the bench isn't something we should just trade for...trades sake.

Falling out of love with this. Maybe 2 year deal with latter being a team option.

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 02:04 PM) Nerlens Noel is the guy I wanted all along. I don't think Noel is a good fit next to Okafor, and if Embiid comes back next year, they'd have a logjam of poor spacing. I wonder if Noel could be had for Niko + first rounder. Noel would be a good fit next to Gasol and Portis. Why would Philly rely on Embiid coming back?

Lopez + something is hilarious considering the team. Picks? Jarret Jack?

Nice to hear stuff on minor league instructors like that.

That is hilarious that he traveled.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 07:04 PM) That wouldn't be bad. I would like all non playoff 1st rounders protected. This makes most sense to me.

Wait wha? Alvarez in OF or Davis moved to OF? -
see previous page, or above, depending on settings.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) Were the Blue Jays? Yes. They were in the playoffs and won their division.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 02:17 PM) Hell all you gotta do is play .500 ball through July to be one. Were we legit contenders last year?

None of what Cameron just said sounds like he "hates the white sox". We've all said similar things of this team.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 01:34 PM) While I am an advocate of getting Fowler/Desmond cheap, imagine what 3 top 47 picks and an influx of international talent from going over the pool could do to the system. They have to replace Fulmer/Anderson... It would certainly make me feel a lot better about 2020 and beyond. -

Sounds about right. Could use a LatAm and draft infusion. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 01:20 PM) If the majority speaks, the majority speaks. It applies a lot of pressure though for candidate to take their campaign through a lot of primaries. That's a money suck.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 01:14 PM) I was operating under career norms and I am in no way expecting best case scenarios. If Frazier could has a sub .300 OBP I wouldn't be surprised. LaRoche performed in the 90-100 percentile. He can't get worse. 3B, SS, 2B and RF were all black holes. You cannot get worse. If a performer is worse than one these positions production level last year they will be replaced. I think Eaton/Melky could have drop offs. Other than that, the Sox just need Sale/Q/Abreu/Eaton/Rodon/Robertson to stay healthy and the bullpen can't blow up. I was actually defending you. I thought your anticipated improvements were pretty conservative. Eaton I would say is most likely drop off in power, hopefully he raises OBP to make up for it.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 12:02 PM) The super delegates were put in place to that the party still has some control over the nomination process. They can and do change, though. IIRC Clinton had a huge lead in SD's in 2008 as well, but they slowly started to shift to Obama as the race went on. edit: I can't imagine a situation where the DNC uses the super delegate power to override popular support for another candidate that turns out well for them, though. Imagine that the only reason Clinton gets the nomination is because she held on to enough super delegates while Sanders actually won primary after primary. How many Sanders supporters would turn out to vote for Clinton in November versus being justifiably angry at the Democratic Party leadership? Right, when it became clear Obama was inevitable suddenly they changed to him. They may be useful to prevent a brokered convention in that way. I think, on its face, they are very stupid. But, I kind of like having it in the back pocket if a trump like insurgent ever happens on dem side.

We always expect best case scenarios though. One or several of our players will have career low years, hopefully several will post career bests. His projections are pretty modest. C is improved, but probably #1 position to expect significant time off.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) And he was linked in all sorts of trades including Love and Melo but those didn't work out. And again, after his first half season and even after his first season in total everyone thought he was a great stretch 4. He's had stretches. He makes terrible mistakes, but from a skill standpoint, he's still got it. Why are we calling him a bust after 1.5 seasons? There are a lot of useful players aside from Love and Melo. None of them were acquired for a "stretch 4" who doesn't hit 3 pointers, can rarely play the 4, and is a horrible 3, bad at defense, and has had no confidence since refs have stopped rewarding his increasingly more ridiculous flopping. Good use of asset.

Agreed. Last year, you just knew when he had absolutely nothing. It was nice when Carroll was up because we could basically throw him in and get 5IP out of him, and pull danks in 2nd.
-
$7 mill in dead money is a lot.

I still have irrational confidence in Danks being a decent pitcher this year, just because I saw him pitch two gems last year in person that were the only entertaining games I saw in person.
